The Pine Plains Girls Softball Association has adopted a Code of Conduct to make the game a more enjoyable experience for all participants. All players, coaches, parents, fans and umpires should familiarize themselves with the Code, and practice the guidelines set forth at all PPGSA games and events. |
Player’s Code:
- Play for the fun of it, not just to please your parents or coach.
- Play by the rules.
- Never argue with the officials’ decisions. Let your coach ask any necessary questions.
- Control your temper – no mouthing off, throwing bats or other equipment.
- Work equally hard for yourself and your team. Your team’s performance will benefit and so will yours.
- Be a good sport. Cheer all good plays, whether your team’s or your opponents’.
- Treat all players as you yourself would like to be treated. Don’t interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of any player.
- Remember that the goals of the game are to have fun, improve your skills and feel good. Don’t be a show-off.
- Cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents, for without them you don’t have a game.
Coach’s Code:
- Remember that children need a coach they can respect. Be generous with your praise when it is deserved, and set a good example.
- Teach players that rules of the game are mutual agreements which no-one should evade or break.
- Ensure that all children have an equitable playing experience consistent with the rules and regulations of the organization.
- Remember that children play for fun and enjoyment and that winning is only part of it. Never ridicule or yell at the children for making mistakes or losing a competition.
- The scheduling and length of practice times and competitions should take into consideration the maturity level of the children.
- Develop team respect for opponents as well as for the judgment of officials and opposing coaches.
- Communicate clearly to parents your goals, as a coach, for the team and what you expect their role and behavior to be as a parent and spectator.
- Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed on sound coaching principles by participating in training opportunities.
Parent’s Code:
- Encourage but do not force your child to participate in sports.
- Remember that children are involved in organized sports for their enjoyment and not yours.
- Encourage your child to always play by the rules.
- Teach your child that honest effort is as important as victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
- Turn defeat to victory by helping your child work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship. Never ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
- Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good plays by your team and by members of the opposing team.
- Do not publicly question the officials’ judgment and never their honesty.
- Have your child arrive on time for all games and practices and inform the coach, in advance, if your child will be absent, arriving late or leaving early, to the best of your ability.
- Recognize the value and importance of volunteer coaches and umpires. They give their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your child.
Warnings and Ejections:
Any individual violating the PPGSA Code of Conduct will be subject to disciplinary action as clearly outlined in the Pine Plains Girls Softball Association Bylaws.
