Frequently Asked Questions About the PPGSA
  • When is registration / signups? Registration begins January 3, 2009 and runs through March 21, 2009. However, no one will be turned away if you miss the date or are new to the area please contact the Director of Softball Operations, to be assigned to a team.
  • How do I register – signup?   Online, by simply clicking the Online Registration tab of this site. If Online registration  is not for you, paper registration forms are avialble for download by clicking on the “Registration” or “Handouts” tabs of this website, in the Pine Plains Gym lobby, and at the Pine Plains Town Hall. Completed forms are to be mailed to PPGSA P.O. Box 955 Pine Plains, NY 12567.
  • Is there a registration fee?  Pine Plains Residents (those living in the town of Pine Plains proper) are sponsored by the Town of Pine Plains. Non-Pine Plains Residents (those living in Stanfordville, Elizaville, Ancram and other surrounding towns) will be charged an annual registration fee of $35 per player.
  • Are there tryouts? Tryouts may be required; to be determined by the PPGSA Board, dependant upon number of registrations. If deemed necessary tryouts for the 2009 season will be held March 30, 2009.
  • When do we find out our team and coach?  Team assignments will be announced Opening Day April 4, 2009. Watch the website for details.
  • When does the season start?  Pre-season practice offically begins April 20, 2009 and games will be played begining in early May through June. Please note: some coaches may decide to begin practice following Opening Day activites.
  • Are players able to “play up” a division?  Yes, but only if they complete required "Play Up" forms and are able to demonstrate the physical skills and ability to play at the next level, as established by the PPGSA board.
  • Where are games played?  All home games for all divisions will be played at the Town of Pine Plains Recreation Field and away games in surrounding communities. I.e. Rhinebeck, Red Hook, Poughkeepsie, Beekman, Pleasant Valley and Copake. Please note: Transportation to and from all games is the responsibility of individual player’s parent or guardian.  
  • How many games will we play?  T Ball, Rookie and Minor League will typically play one game per week May through June. Late in the season there may be some weeks with two games, to make up rained our games. Little League Majors and Minors will typically play 1-2 games per week. Time and day of the week will vary as these teams participate in inter-league play.
  • Are uniforms provided?  Yes, players will receive a uniform jersey, visor and socks. It is the player’s responsibility to provide navy blue softball pants or shorts (determined by board and league prior to commencement of play) and sliders. These items will be available for purchase, at opening day.  
  • Is there any other equipment required?  Yes, players are reponsible to provide their own glove and sneakers/cleats. Pitchers, in the 10U, 12U and 16U Divsions,are also required to wear a league approved safety mask during play. Players are welcome to bring their owm helmets and bats, but please keep in mind all equipment must meet league safety standards and be ASA approved..
