Hampton Roads Jr Whalers
Whalers Junior Independent
The Junior Whalers Independent team is a team registered by USA Hockey at the
Junior Independent classification. In USA Hockey they have the following
classifications for Juniors: Junior A Tier I, Junior A Tier II, Junior A Tier
III, Junior B Tier III, Junior C Tier III and Junior Independent which is the
classification they give teams that meet the criteria but do not participate in
a league.
The Whaler Independent team will play an all exhibition & showcase schedule vs.
top Junior B, Junior A Tier III, Junior A Tier II, Canadian Junior B & A teams
and some College Teams.
The Whalers will play between a 50-60 game schedule which will take place
primarily on the road with between 5-10 home games only.
The Whalers will practice each day for 1 1/2 hours and also have a 1 1/2 hour
off ice session each day.
Whalers Junior B
The Hampton Roads Whalers Junior B team is a USA Hockey Registered Junior B Tier
III team that participates in the CHA (Continental Hockey Association), The CHA
spans from Florida to Mass.
Last season saw the Whalers win the CHA regular season and playoff
championships. The Whalers put together an impressive 35-0-5 record together in
the CHA.
This season will see the Whalers play a 50 game schedule between league play and
exhibition.
Unlike last season this year the CHA will be eligible to participate in the USA
Hockey Junior B National Tournament.
The Whalers will practice each day for 1 1/2 hours and also have a 1 1/2 hour
off ice session each day.
Whalers Junior C
The Hampton Roads Whalers Junior C team is a USA Hockey Registered Junior C Tier
III team that participates in the CHA (Continental Hockey Association), The CHA
spans from Florida to Mass.
This will be the inaugural season for this team.
This season will see the Whalers play a 50 game schedule between league play and
exhibition.
The Whalers will practice each day for 1 1/2 hours and also have a 1 1/2 hour off ice session each day.

New Standard of Play and Rules Emphasis Video
During USA Hockey's 2006 Annual Congress, USA Hockey's Board of Directors voted unanimously to endorse a new standard of play and rules emphasis (above link) for 2006-07 and beyond. Shortly after the announcement, we caught up with USA Hockey President Ron DeGregorio, who spoke frankly of the merits, benefits, importance and challenges in taking the organization in a direction that encourages players' skills, speed and strength.
