Monday, March 30 Pictures Pictures I have posted pictures for all the teams on each team's webpage. Unfortunately, due to site space limitations, I have had to reduce the resolution to 640x480 from the higher resolution I had started posting earlier. I will continue posting additional pictures in the ALBUM link over the course of the season, including more opening ceremony pictures. If anyone has any pictures they would like to see posted, please email them to peachbowlll@yahoo.com. If you would like to see them on a specific team site, and do not have a team site administrator, include the information in the email. With that in mind, I am requesting any team site administrators to limit their picture resolutions to 640x480 to allow every team the ability to post pictures. Should we run out of space, we can look into the possibility of purchasing additional space. Thank you. Saturday, March 14 Consider This The season is starting so I ask that everyone consider this: 1. Baseball is a commitment made by the player and family. Be sure your player is at practice and games ON TIME. Baseball is a team sport and the team depends on everyone to work together within the scheduled times. 2. If you're dropping off your player for practice or a game, please be sure to pick up your player ON TIME (coaches are not babysitters). 3. Let the coaches and managers do the coaching. If you want to coach, volunteer. 4. Be supportive at games. If you have nothing positive to say about the teams, players, coaches, or umpires, keep it to yourself. 5. Offer to help out. Help set up the fields, help with the equipment, help keeping score, help cleaning up the field. The coaches put in more time at one game than many parents during the whole season. (This helps games start and end on time. Additionally, after the last game, it allows the coaches at the last game and their kids to get home at a reasonable time.) 6. Fields: All of the work done on the fields is done by board member volunteers, and they always need help. There is no "Field Fairy" that magically does the fields. This includes dragging the fields, mowing the grass, and upkeep of the dugouts and fences. The county or city do not maintain the fields, Peach Bowl does. Feel free to contact any board member to lend your services to Peach Bowl Little League. Thank you and I hope that 2009 is an enjoyable year for all participants and spectators. Saturday, March 15 Team Websites In addition to the main website for Peach Bowl Little League (PBLL) we also have the ability for each team to have their own website within PBLL's. In addition to having the main schedule downloaded into your site showing only your team, you can also schedule practices and other team events, create your own unique welcome screen, select colors for the page backgrounds, post pics of your team, and keep everyone on your team informed with an email list. All it requires is someone to be setup with access which can be done with an e-mail to peachbowlll@yahoo.com
Friday, February 20 The Season is Starting 02.20.2009 The season is starting! Last tryouts for baseball and softball are Saturday, February 21. Baseball minors are 10am-12. Baseball majors are 12-2pm. Softball minors are 2-4pm. Softball majors are 4-6pm. Signups for all levels and divisions can be done at this time. This includes signups for Juniors. As the Junior season does not begin until May 13th, additional signup information will be posted here on the website and in the local media. Opening ceremonies will be March 21st at 10am. Pictures will also be taken on this day. To bring everyone up to date, we have a new board. Some have returned for another year and some are new members. The good news is there will be continuity with the addition new ideas and outlook. The bad new is that experience and talent was lost by members who chose not to return. The board is smaller than in past years. This places an additional demand on the resources available, especially with the size of the Peach Bowl program. Wait for it….. Here is the shameless plug: We need parent volunteers to make this program what everyone would like it to be. A parent committee would be great!! It would be great to have an Opening Ceremony that included fun activities. It would be nice to have a program with scheduled events and activities to keep the program festive and fun throughout the year. It would be great to have batting, fielding, and pitching clinics throughout the year. It would be nice to have the newest and safest equipment and the greatest playing field conditions. These are just some of the things it would be nice to have and do. But, and here is the BIG BUT, the resources aren’t there. In addition to the twice monthly board meetings, just to manage the fields during games takes approximately 120 hours a week. Every board member also has at least one additional responsibility off the field: Treasurer, secretary, snackbar chair, field maintenance, equipment manager, webmaster, umpire in charge, player representive/agent, safety officer, division representative, etc. Every board member also has children in the program and if not the manager or coach on their children’s team, most help the managers on the teams during practice and games. Every board member also has a fulltime job. For some parents, Little League is a great babysitter. Some parents stay for every practice and game and help the manager or team parent. Some parents can’t make the one or two duties per season. Some parents do three or four (or more) to make up for the former. This program is for our children. It can either be at the minimum that just keeps the program going, or it can be made into an event that can maximize the growth of the player and be fun for the entire family. We are looking for ideas and individuals who care enough about their players that they are willing to help make a difference. If you are interested, please send an email to peachbowlll@yahoo.com. That’s peach bowl followed by two lower case L’s. Thank you. |
