Austin M. Lacy
Austin M. Lacy
December 16, 1992 – June 3, 2011
Austin was an avid football player Pasadena High School and previously Bishop Amat High School . Football was in his blood at a very young age playing in a number of Pop-Warner teams around the Pasadena CA area. At 11:12 a.m. Friday June 3rd, in a Maryland hospital, Austin Lacy was removed from life support. Austin fought the rare form of cancer, Mesothelioma, up until the very end. Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer and is most common among industrial workers who have inhaled asbestos (a mineral used in building material that was outlawed in the late 1970s). The Maryland hospital was a hope for a special chemotherapy to help Austin overcome the cancer. Lacy was a very upbeat, funny and optimistic person. He persevered through the year-long illness, never being down, never complaining; always remaining cheerful and positive. His peers have been quoted saying “He was a leader and somebody to look up to”.
