FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. WHEN DOES PRACTICE OFFICIALLY START FOR THE SEASON?
Practice begins Monday, August 3, 2009 from 6-8pm at the Star's field.
2. WHAT IS THE PRACTICE SCHEDULE?
Aug 3 - Aug 28 practice will be Monday - Friday 6-8 pm.
Aug 31 - end of season practice will be Tues, Thurs, Friday 6-8 pm.
3. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET BY CHILD READY FOR FOOTBALL SEASON?
The Stars offer a FREE training camp for the first three weeks during the
month July on Tues & Thurs nights from 6-8pm. Camp starts July 7, 2009.
4. WHAT FOOTBALL EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO PURCHASE?
Players only need to provide their own cleats (no steel spikes allowed),
practice jersey and any additional mouth guards
Most of the equipment is provided by the Palos Stars. Equipment included:
helmet, chin strap, shoulder pads, rib pads, hip pads, knee pads, girdle,
1 mouthguard, game jersey, game pants and socks, practice pants.
5. WHAT TYPE OF FOOTBALL IS USED BY THE PALOS STARS?
For the Super Pee Wee level a Rawlings Pro 5 Junior football is used.
For the Pee Wee level a Rawlings Pro 5 Youth football is used.
6. WHAT DOES A FOOTBALL PLAYER NEED TO BRING TO PRACTICE?
Each player should come to practice wearing his complete football practice
uniform, pads and helmet. Please make sure they bring a large drink (water
preferred) for practice.
7. ON GAME DAY, HOW EARLY MUST MY CHILD ARRIVE?
Coaches usually request that players are at the game site (home or away) at
least one hour before game time. This may vary depending on the coach.
Instructions will be given during practice the night before a game.
8. WHAT DETERMINES THE TEAM MY SON WILL PLAY ON?
Team divisions are based upon a combination of age and weight. Age is
determined as of 9/1. If a player happens to be over the weight limit
for his age, then he may need to move up to the next team level. Likewise, if
a player happens to be under the weight limits for his age, he may be able to
move down a team level. Moving down a team level has some additional weight
restrictions. If your son falls into either of these situations the coaches
will make the final decision.
9. HOW OFTEN ARE THERE WEIGH-INS FOR FOOTBALL PLAYERS?
Football players are required to weigh-in twice during the season. Once before
the first official game and then again mid season. Super Pee Wees are only
required to weigh in once during the season before the first official game.
During the first week or two of practice, coaches may weigh players to make any
team level changes if needed. Parents will be notified of weigh-in dates and
time.
10. WHAT IF MY CHILD MUST MISS A PRACTICE OR GAME?
We expect each player/cheerleader to attend every practice and game. However,
we do realize that there may be a necessary absence or illness. If your child
will not be at practice please call your Coach or Team Mom. If your child
will not be at a game please inform your Coach or Team Mom early enough to
allow the coaches time to make any necessary adjustments to their game plan.
