What makes a leader trained?
Cub Scout leaders are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials and the Cub Scout Leader training for their current position.

Here are the trainings BSA offers:

*Fast Start Training - This training is designed to help the new leader get comfortable before he conducts his first meeting. This training is available at a training session or on-line at Old Colony Council's website.

*Youth Protection Training - This comprehensive training course guides you on the do's and don'ts of working with youth. It is for your protection as well as the youth in your den and pack. It is available periodically through the Pack or on-line at Old Colony Council's website.

*Basic Leader Training - This training is broken into 2 parts; New Leader Essentials and Cub Scout Leader Specific Training. New Leader Essentials is an introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, funding and methods of scouting. This 90 minute training need only be completed once. Cub Scout Leader Specific Training is training for the specific position you are in; Tiger leader, Den leader, Cubmaster etc. It should be taken whenever you change rank or position.

*Supplemental Training:

**OWL (Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders) - This training is to help Webelos leaders develop outdoor skills and program knowledge needed to complete specific outdoor activity badges.

**District Roundtable Training - Conducted by the council once a month. It offers skills development for all positions.

**Pow wow or University of Scouting - Conducted at the council level once a year. It offers a wide variety of classes aimed at supporting the leaders. Some examples include songs, skits, leather working, storytelling etc.

**BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Opportunity) - This training is open to all adults in the pack. It is intended to help you conduct safe, fun, well-planned and exciting campouts for your pack.

**Den Chief Training - This training is for Boy Scouts who wish to be a Den Chief within your Pack.

**Trainer Development Conference - This training is intended for those leaders who want more training and leadership skills and would like to be a part of their council's training team.

**Philmont Training Center - This is the national training center for the Boy Scouts of America. It is located near Cimarron, New Mexico. Each summer they offer week-long training courses led by the top trainers in the nation.
