Panthers Lose Playoff Heartbreaker, 4-3 in OT

PW headed up to Columbia to take on Metro in the CBHL in the semi finals of the U18 A2 playoffs. Metro came out strong in the first period, only to have the Panthers weather the storm and strike first with a late goal.PW dominated in the second period, adding a shorthanded goal midway through for a 2-0 lead they carried into the third period.Unfortunately, a string of penalties allowed Metro back in the game. The Leafs scored a 5v3 goal before PW answered back to restore their two goal lead. With five minutes remaining, Metro added another PP goal to cut the lead to one. With under a minute left in the game, Metro pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and tied the game with a rebound tally.Metro finished off the rally with another 5v3 goal with 1:23 left in the OT to advance to the championship game (where they lost to NOVA 3-1).

Some interesting facts:

PW was the least penalized team in A2 this year
PW averaged five (5) minor penalties/game in CBHL play
PW was called for fourteen (14) minor penalties in this game, Metro five (5)
Metro scored three goals with their fourteen power play opportunities
PW was given four (4) 5v3 man dis-advantages
Metro scored twice on those 5v3 PP's,including the GW'er
PW was down 5v3 twice during OT encompassing the whole period
PW was handed 8 penalties,Metro 1 in the third period and OT
Metro outshot PW 25-2 over the course of the third period and OT

Despite the penalty differences, Metro took advantage of their opportunities on the power play and we didnt (0-5).The Leafs played well and gave NOVA a great game in the finals. In no way should this take away from their win.Our boys played great, played hard, and played with a tremendous amount of character. They, and the CBHL, deserved a better officiated game.
