PEARL RIVER LITTLE LEAGUE:News
2009 MG 11-12 Team NYS Champs
Tuesday, July 14
MAJOR (11-12) GIRLS, DISTRICT 18, SECTION 4 AND NY STATE CHAMPS!!!

August 5, 2009:  The PRLL 11/12 NY Champs finally came to the end of the road, losing a hard-fought 5-4 game to the New Jersey team in the Little League Eastern regionals.  The team came further than any PRLL team in hisory, and every member of the team, including manager Rick Alicandri and coaches Mike Woods and John McCarthy, should be proud of the effort and hard work invested in this post-season dream. The players and their families will remember this summer forever.

August 3, 2009:  The New York (a/k/a PRLL) 11/12 girls beat Delaware today by the score of 10-2.  They play New Jersey tomorrow at 1 PM in their last pool play game.  A win over New Jersey would give the team a record of 3-1 in pool play, and most likely earn them a trip to the Championship round which starts with 2 semi final games on Friday and the championship game on Saturday.  The winner goes to the Little League World Series.  Again, thanks for all of your support.

August 2, 2009:  The PRLL 12 year old girls won their 2nd pool play game today against the team from Capital Region by a score of 16-1 in 3 ½ innings (mercy).  They play New Jersey on Tuesday and Delaware on Wednesday.  The “final four” starts on Friday.  (Journal-News article):   Pearl River 16, West Albany 1, (4): In a Northeast Regional 11-12 year-old Little League Champions pool play game at Albany, Mandy McCarthy had 10 strikeouts in the win. Alexa Murphy and Erica Collura each went 1 for 2 with two RBI. Erin Woods had a double and two RBI.  "I was a little nervous coming into today's game but once we got going my nerves settled and I was feeling really good on the mound," McCarthy said. "Last game was our first loss in 12 games so it was nice to come back strong and now we can focus on the next game." Pearl River will continue pool play against the Delaware champion tomorrow at 1 p.m.

August 1, 2009:  The PRLL 11/12 team finally suffered a setback after 11 straight victories, losing, 4-0, to the Pennsylvania team in the Little League Eastern Regionals in Albany.  They play the team from the Capitol Region on Sunday. (Journal-News article): West Point (Pa.) 4, Pearl River 0: In a Little League Majors Division Eastern Regional pool play game at Albany, Dee O'Malley, Sam Alicandri and Mandy McCarthy each had a hit for Pearl River. Caroline Kardashian only allowed two earned runs and six hits in the loss. Pearl River continues in the tournament Sunday at 1 p.m. against West Albany.

July 29, 2009:  The PRLL Major Girls have WON THE NEW YORK STATE CHAMPIONSHIP by defeating Chatham, NY, in a come-from-behind 11-7 victory.  Pearl River jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 2nd with key hits by De O’Malley, Alexa Murphy and Erin Woods.  They added to their lead with 2 more in the 4th, when Kelly Hayes led off with a single, and was brought around on a triple from Sam Alicandri.  Alicandri then scored on a wild pitch.  The team from Chatham made it interesting with a 7 run 5th to go up 7-6.  But the PR girls would not be denied, coming back with a 5 run rally in their last at bat, keyed by an Erica Collura single, a triple from Caroline Kardashian, and two more hits from Erin Woods and De O’Malley.  The team now moves on to the 12-team Eastern Regionals, starting with a 9am game on Saturday, Aug 1, against the Pennsylvania champion.

Dee O'Malley went 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Sam Alicandri had two hits and scored three runs. Winning pitcher Caroline Kardashian struck out six.  "She pitched really well," Woods said. Erica Collura reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases and Alicandri later scored on an error.  De O'Malley and Mandy McCarthy each had one hit in the game for Pearl River.

The Pearl River 11/12 Girls softball all-stars successfully started their 2009 District 18 Tournament on Tuesday, July 7 at Strawtown, with a 5-0 victory over a New City team that had overwhelmed Stony Point, 17-0, on Sunday.  Caroline Kardashian pitched a shutout with 8 strikeouts, Sam Alicandri scored 2 and drove in 2, and Erin Woods and Mandy McCarthy each drove in a run.  There was a good turnout by PR fans.
