2009 PRLL Boys 9's Win West Nyack Tournament
2009 Boys 9s Pitcher K 7-14-09

July 29, 2009:  Pearl River 9's Complete Tournament sweep:   Fresh off their West Nyack Tournament triumph, the Pearl River 9 year-old all-star baseball team added the championship of the Billy Kayser Memorial Tournament to their resume, with a 7-1 win over Haverstraw.  The team thus swept the two Rockland County 9 year-old tournaments, leaving no doubt as to the top team of that age group.  Use this link to the Kayser Tournament Game Summaries page to see game details.

July 17, 2009:  Championship Game:  The Pearl River 9's defeated the S. Orangetown 9's in a great game to win the West Nyack 9 year old Tournament.  The game see-sawed back and forth until the 4th when it was tied at 4.  Pearl River held S Orangetown in the top of the 5th and broke the game open in the bottom of the 5th with the game winning double by Patrick Kennedy to knock in 2 runs.  Kevin Doorley came on in relief of Patrick Kennedy in the 4th inning and held S Orangetown to no runs the rest of the way.  Solid defense by Joe Sassano, Ryan Buchan, Sean McGarvey, and Conor Holahan helped the PR 9's to victory.  Steven Perzigian layed down a great bunt to advance 2 runners to help score a run.  Sean Scanlon, Matt Politis, Craig MacDonald, Conor McCabe (got hit again) and Chris Sabino also had hits to help the team win.  I'm proud of the all our 9's, they represented Pearl River in fine fashion.  Follow along next week in the Billy Kayser Tournament.  PR  vs. Ramapo on Sunday at 10 AM -McKiernan field.

July 15, 2009:  In the West Nyack Tournament semi-finals, the Pearl River 9 year-old all-star baseball team defeated Ramapo, 9-4.  The team (with a 4-0 record) will play in the tournament championship on Friday, July 17, at 7:30pm against South Orangetown.  Unlike previous games, Pearl River had to overcome a 3-1 deficit. Leading the way was Chris Sabino with a strong pitching performance and 3 hits.  Conor Holahan came on in relief and did a fantastic job.  Matt Politis made a perfect throw to nail a Ramapo runner at 2nd base to end a serious Ramapo threat in the bottom of the 5th inning.  Conor McCabe got hit twice again tonight and was on base 3 times (gotta get rid of that ball magnet).  Sean McGarvey continued his hot hitting with 3 clutch hits.  The West Nyack Championship game will be played on Finkel field at Germonds Park at 7:30 PM on Friday night.

The tournament started on Tuesday, July 7, when Pearl River's 9 year-old baseball team defeated Nanuet, 10-0.   Chris Sabino threw a no-hitter for the Pearl River 9's,  striking out 10 batters in the game.   Chris also hit a solo homerun in the first inning to help the scoring for the 9's.  Joe Sassano had 2 hits in the game.  Patrick Kennedy threw out a Nanuet runner in the top of the 4th inning to end a threat by Nanuet.  The 9's did a great job in the team effort.  Thanks to all our parents, older siblings and older All Stars for coming out to support our team.

In their second game, on Thursday, July 9, against Nyack - Valley Cottage, the team scored a victory in a mercy-rule game. Kevin Doorley had a game winning inside-the-park homerun.  Patrick Kennedy, Joe Sassano, Conor Holahan and Kevin Doorley combined to throw a no-hitter.  Matthew Politis, Sean Scanlon, Chris Sabino, Conor McCabe, Ryan Buchan, Steven Perzigian and Sean McGarvey all had hits in the Victory.
Pearl River also registered a victory in their third game, 15-1 over Suffern. Patrick Kennedy threw a no-hitter with 7 strikeouts.  Kevin Doorley had an inside-the-park grand slam.  Chris Sabino, Conor McCabe and Sean McGarvey all had 3 hits for Pearl River.  Steven Perzigian threw out a fast Suffern runner in the 3rd inning to help stop a Suffern threat.  Next up for Pearl River is Ramapo in a semi-final game on Wednesday night 7/15 at 8 PM on Finkel field at Germonds Park.
