BRADY TOURNAMENT Game Summaries

BRADY TOURNAMENT GAME SUMMARIES: 

SATURDAY, JULY 12, 2008:

CLARKSTOWN, 11 - SOUTH ORANGETOWN, 10:  Clarkstown mounted a furious five-run, come-from-behind rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge South orangetown, 11-10.  Jade Marks, who had a huge game with four hits, three runs scored and a big double in the game-winning rally, scored the winning run after a base hit by Britney Gallagher, who had two hits, two walks and two runs scored in the game.  Adolff Taylor and Kerry Kelly also doubled during the rally.  Gabi Palumbo (3 hits, run scored), Jenna Feinberg (2 hits, double, run scored) and Carli Solicito (3 hits, run scored) also had big games on offense.  South Orangetown had built their lead with a six-run fourth inning, highlighted by hits from Jessica Migge (who also walked and scored twice) and Clare Scott.  Courtney Keane and Stephanie Cambrea reached base three times each for S.O., and left fielder Cassidy Morales made a stellar defensive play in left field.

PEARL RIVER, 11 - STONY POINT, 8:  In a see-saw battle, Stony Point took an 8-5 lead with a four-run 5th inning, but Pearl River scored six in their half of the inning for an 11-8 victory.  Ciara Murphy paced the PR attack with 3 hits and 3 runs scored.  Sinead O'Sullivan had 2 hits, and Caroline Alicandri reached base three times and scored twice.  Kari Portington had a hit and two walks.  For Stony Point, Jenna Cappabianca had a hit and two walks, and scored two runs.  Amanda Schweitzer also scored twice. Kasandra Bender drove in two SP runs with a first-inning hit, and hits by Cappabianca and Kaitlyn Gutenberger keyed the SP fifth inning. 

SUNDAY, JULY 13:

SOUTH ORANGETOWN, 10 - PEARL RIVER, 8:   South Orangetown scored four times in the 5th inning en route to a 10-8 win.   The rally was keyed by an RBI base hit by Courtney Keane, who had a big game with 3 hits, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.  Christina Garcia scored 2 runs, and was robbed of a line drive hit on a fine play by PR shortstop Caroline Alicandri.  Cassidy Morales and Nicole Spiegelberg each reached base afely three times for S.O.   Pearl River had taken an early lead with a 5-run first inning, highlighted by a bases-loaded hit from Taylor Lierow.  Alicandri scored two runs for PR, and Farrell Shine blasted a double to the wall in the third inning, but was cut down at third by a good relay play from S.O.'s left-fielder (Corin Geoghegan) and shortstop (Keane).   South Orangetown used great defense again in the fourth, when PR's Ciara Murphy was robbed of a hit by a fine running catch by Clare Scott.

CLARKSTOWN, 21 - NANUET, 7:   Clarkstown's 10-run second inning paced the team to its second win in the tournament.  Gabriella Palumbo, Jenna Feinberg and Carli Solicito (3 hits) each scored three runs in the game.  Taylor Adolff had 4 hits, a double and 7 RBI's, and Britney Gallagher also doubled.  Nanuet scored all seven of their runs in the second inning, led by hits from Danielle Snyder, Mikaela Carey, Jaclyn Vormittag (double) and Kailee Healey.

MONDAY, JULY 14:

PEARL RIVER, 11 - NANUET, 5:   Pearl River scored five times in the top of the sixth inning to put this contest out of reach.  Farrell Shine, Brianna Acevedo and Sinead O'Sullivan each had 3 hits for PR.   Brianna pitched well, holding Nanuet to only one run over the first 3 innings.  Kailee Healey led Nanuet with 3 hits, and Jaclyn Vormittag and Mikaela Carey each had 2 hits.  Caroline Wrenn singled to lead off the first inning, giving Nanuet an early lead. 

SOUTH ORANGETOWN, 13 - STONY POINT, 12:   Amy Walter drove in Nicole Spiegelberg with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give SO a wild 13-12 victory.  South Orangetown had taken a 5-1 lead after 3 innings, but the rest of the game was chaotic, with Stony Point scoring 7 runs in the top of the 4th inning, only to have SO plate 6 runs in the bottom half.  SP tied it with 3 runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Gina Salvaggi's 2-run double, and the teams traded runs until the final tally.   Spiegelberg (who also stole 5 bases) and Christina Garcia each had two hits and scored two runs for SO.  Abigail Higgins, Jessica Migge and Clare Scott also scored twice for SO.  Stony Point's Katie Amideneau scored three runs.  Kaitlyn Gutenberger swiped a pair of bases and scored 2 runs, including the tying run for SP in the top of the sixth inning. 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 16:

STONY POINT, 17 - NANUET, 6:    Stony Point scored runs in bunches (5 in the first inning, 6 in the second and 6 in the fourth).  Kaitlyn Gutenberger singled, doubled and scored three runs.  Alicia Bertolino scored 3 runs and played excellent defense at shortstop.  Nicole Vitale led the Nanuet offense with 3 hits and 4 RBI.  Samantha Hoag scored three runs for Nanuet, and Jaclyn Vormittag has 2 hits and scored twice.  Nicole Vitale had a defensive gem in the Nanuet infield.

CLARKSTOWN, 16 - PEARL RIVER, 15:    Details to follow.

THURSDAY, JULY 17:

SOUTH ORANGETOWN, 13 - NANUET, 8:  South Orangetown's 6-run second inning led the way to their third victory in four tournament games.  Christina Garcia scored twice and had two hits, including a big 3-RBI double.  Maggie Murtha had a perfect day at bat, with 3 hits in 3 at-bats, and she scored all 3 times.  Amy Cohen had a pair of hits and scored twice.  Jessica Migge pitched well for SO.  Nanuet's Kailee Healey had a double and 3 RBI.  Mikaela Carey had two hits, and Nicole Vitale reached base in all four at-bats for Nanuet, while Danielle Frondi scored three runs.  South Orangetown will play Pearl River in the tournament semi-final on Saturday, July 19, at 10 am.  

CLARKSTOWN, 18 - STONY POINT, 11:   Clarkstown answered Stony Point's 7-run fourth inning with an 8-run fifth inning, on their way to their fourth consecutive victory and top seed in the tournament playoffs.  For Clarkstown, Jenna Feinberg  stroked 3 hits, scored twice and drove in 3 runs.  Gabriella Palumbo had 2 hits and scored 3 runs.  Deana Prochnauhad a single, an RBI triple and scored twice.  Olivia Szeker-Cortes drove in 2 runs with a double, and also singled and scored twice. Kerry Kelly walked four times and scored three times.   For Stony Point, Gina Selvaggi drew four walks and scored twice.  Kaitlyn Gutenberger singled in a pair of runs in SP's big inning.  Jenna Cappabianco reached base three times via walks and scored a run.  Clarkstown will play the winner of the South Orangetown - Pearl River semi-final in the championship game, currently scheduled for Monday, July 21. 

MONDAY, JULY 21 (CHAMPIONSHIP):

CLARKSTOWN, 14 - PEARL RIVER, 4:   Clarkstown's powerhouse offense again scored in double digits, using a six-run second inning to propel them to a 14-4 victory and its second Brady Tournament championship.  Hits by Maria Kechejian, Olivia Szeker-Cortes and Jenna Feinberg highlighted the big second inning.  Clarkstown later put the game away with a 5-run fourth inning, keyed by hits from Gabriella Palumbo, Szeker-Cortes and Feinberg.  Carli Solicito had two hits and scored two runs in the game and Deanna Trongone scored twice.  Taylor Lierow, Coleen McCoy, Ciara Murphy and Caroline Alicandri scored the Pearl River runs.  After the game, the parents (Helen and Michael Brady) and brother (Eddie Brady) of Alicia Brady presented the trophies and thanked everyone for their sportsmanship and enthusiasm.
