To Sporty29: The historical development of softball is important to Pearl River Little League, and is treated in the 50-Year Journal which was on sale this year (and is still available). It was very difficult, however, finding any photographs of the softball division prior to 1980, and very few were found for the '80's. More became available in the 90's. (The softball division was apparently formed in 1969 -- see last image in the '1980's' Album on this site). It sounds like you may be in a position to help us, as compiling the league's history is an ongoing process. If you have any data or photos from the early era, please forward to website@prll.org.
Thank you.

I am a former female PRLL softball player (one of the origianls), who is a little disappointed not to see any pictures of the initiation of the girls softball program on your website. I consider myself a pioneer in girls sports (graduated from PRHS in 73)and have always impressed this upon my daughters, and been proud of it.
Sports have changed drastically for girls in the last 30 years and I can remember playing on the girls minor field and sitting on wooden benches. We have come a long way and I think that PRLL's website does not do justice to the history of the girls softball program and how it has developed throughout the years. Seem's pretty unfair considering it's the PR girl's teams that now have a reputation throughtout Rockland for their strength and ability.
Just a comment from a former player |
