TOURNAMENT NEWS:

The Pearl River 11/12 Girls softball all-stars successfully started their 2009 District 18 Tournament on Tuesday, July 7 at Strawtown, with a 5-0 victory over a New City team that had overwhelmed Stony Point, 17-0, on Sunday. TOURNAMENT NEWS:

In the West Nyack Tournament that started on Tuesday, July 7, Pearl River's 9 year-old baseball team defeated Nanuet, 10-0.

Chris Sabino threw a no-hitter for the Pearl River 9's,  striking out 10 batters in the game.   Chris also hit a solo homerun in the first inning to help the scoring for the 9's.  Joe Sassano had 2 hits in the game.  Patrick Kennedy threw out a Nanuet runner in the top of the 4th inning to end a threat by Nanuet.  The 9's did a great job in the team effort.  Thanks to all our parents, older siblings and older All Stars for coming out to support our team.
In their second game, on Thursday, July 9, against Nyack - Valley Cottage, the team scored a victory in a mercy-rule game. Kevin Doorley had a game winning inside-the-park homerun.  Patrick Kennedy, Joe Sassano, Conor Holahan and Kevin Doorley combined to throw a no-hitter.  Matthew Politis, Sean Scanlon, Chris Sabino, Conor McCabe, Ryan Buchan, Steven Perzigian and Sean McGarvey all had hits in the Victory.  The 9's will next play on Tuesday night at 8PM on Dexter field at Germonds Park.

ALL-STAR SEASON BEGINS WITH A VICTORY FOR BASEBALL MAJOR (12s) TEAM

July 6, 2009: The Pearl River 12's (baseball) came from behind for a victory over Stony Point, in 7 innings. Pearl River 6 - Stony Point 2.

Pearl River fell behind in the 2nd inning on back to back Stony Point HR's.  But the Pearl River 12's never gave up and tied it in the 4th on a two run homer by Chris Seiss. The score remained knotted at 2 until the 12's put 4 on the board in the top of the 7th with our own back to back HR's by Nick Capote & J.C. Sabino.  Danny Campbell pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings for the win, with Michael Murphy getting the last two batters for the save.  An exciting game to be a part of, and it was a pleasure to see the girls all-star softball teams and younger boys all-star teams staying around after practice to support the 12's with our own version of the "River Rage".

The 12's host Haverstraw this Wednesday (July 8th) at 7:00pm. Be there.

2009 PARKING PASSES - If after  Saturday 3/28/2009, you did not pick up your passes, you will need to make an appointment  with someone from the Parking Committee, at their convenience and the fee will increase to $25.
REMINDER, YOU CANNOT PARK IN THE VERIZON WIRELESS PARKING LOT WITHOUT THE 2009 DECALS.

If you have parking pass questions, please e-mail parking@prll.org .

Families without parking passes will not be able to park at Verizon Wireless Parking Lot. There is alternative parking available at Veterans Park just down Hunt Road from the entrance to the fields, but it is inconvenient and far less accessible than the Verizon Wireless lot.

PARKING NOTICE:

The parking sticker system for the Verizon Wireless parking lot is being continued in 2009. VW will not permit your entry without such a sticker.

Parking pass stickers were distributed at field clean-up in March (there were two well-advertised sessions, plus an additional day for distribution).  Once you have your sticker, please immediately place it on the back of your inside rear view mirror, where it can be seen by VW security personnel. This system has helped to address the safety concerns of Verizon Wireless, which continues to graciously extend the use of their parking facilities to us. They are rendering a huge service to the League, and we urge you to be courteous to the guards at the booth when entering the lot.

Any questions, please e-mail parking@prll.org

DO WE HAVE YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS ??
E-mail addresses change from time to time, just like telephone numbers. If you have changed your e-mail address recently, or if it is different from the one you supplied us when you registered, PLEASE send your new e-mail address to registrar@prll.org. E-Mail, along with our website, is our PRIMARY method of communication (with over 1000 players, postal mail is no longer cost-effective for us). For those of you with Spam control, you should check your Spam folders for PRLL mail.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We do NOT supply e-mail lists to advertisers. We will never sell such a list. We have no arrangements with advertisers to forward junk mail to you. Your e-mail address will not be used for any purpose other than League communications.
Check this site or the League "cancellation hotline" 359-8666 for cancellation information. If there is no announcement, assume the games will be played. IMPORTANT -- Do NOT leave any messages or questions on the hotline machine. This will overload the system and nullify any message we leave on the line. Questions left on the machine will NOT be answered. Send your questions or comments to website@prll.org. Team-related questions go to baseball@prll.org or softball@prll.org.

PLEASE VOLUNTEER !!

In 1953-54, the Pearl River Little League commenced operations, with a mission of providing neighborhood boys, ages 8-12, a chance to play organized baseball. Over 50 years later, that small league has grown to an organization with over 1100 young players, ages 6-16, girls and boys, playing baseball and softball. The physical growth, especially in recent years, is readily visible. Anderson Fields, the home of Pearl River Little League, with the support of our landlord and host, the American Legion, now accommodates 7 playing fields, 2 of which are lighted. Our Senior Divisions now play at parks all over Rockland County.
Less visible, but just as important, is the pure human effort required to keep pace with this physical growth. The League in 1953 could be run with a few volunteers. Today, volunteers still operate all aspects of the League, but it seems we never have enough people to do everything required. Parents are busier than ever in the workforce, and have less free time. Yet, if we are to continue to give our children the recreational opportunities they have had in the past, the effort has to come from somewhere, or more precisely, someone.   Many are timid about coming forward, or think their help is not needed. Such hesitation costs our children in the long run.
The League does not generate a profit. Registration fees, high enough already, do not cover the cost of operations. The kitchen helps a great deal in bridging the gap (which is why we have a problem when parents do not show up for their kitchen assignments).   A fund-raising push in the last decade, and, more recently, the addition of Fall Ball, have helped us improve the facilities, erect the lights, and add fields, but fund-raising sources are increasingly limited. On a daily basis, it is human resources that we need. Your children will appreciate anything you can do. Thank you.
