NJ Sports Online Playtime Basketballs 9U & 10U AAU Boys Teams Both Medal in New Jersey State Competitions. In their first year of State competition,the Playtime Panthers 9U Team came away from the tournament with an impressive finish, claiming the Silver medal. And, with a third place finish in the 10U division, claiming the Bronze medal, both the 9U & 10U boys teams have earned bids to compete in the Nationals, which will be held in Florida in mid-July. Geoff Pope attended University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy. He originally attended Eastern Michigan, where he appeared in 25 games and racked up 24 tackles and two pass breakups from 2002 to 2004. In 2005, Pope transferred to Howard seeking more playing time. He played 22 games over two seasons for the Bison, totaling 76 tackles, seven pass breakups and four interceptions. After going undrafted in the 2007 NFL Draft, Pope signed a free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins. Though very raw and inexperienced, Pope impressed pro scouts by running a 4.29 40-yard dash at his Pro Day prior to the draft to the Miami Dolphins. Pope made it through the first round of cuts but was released by the team on September 1st and the following day, the New York Giants signed Pope to their practice squad. He spent the entire 2007 regular season on the Giants' practice squad. On December 31st, he replaced safety Craig Dahl on the roster. Pope was inactive for the team's Wild Card contest, but made his NFL debut on January 13 in the team's divisional round matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. He saw extensive playing time on defensive and special teams, recording one tackle in the contest. On January 20, Pope participated in the NFC Championship game and defeated the Green Bay Packers. The Big Apple Classic, a rivalry that is equal to that of the NY Knicks and the Boston Celtics, is THE basketball competition of a lifetime where four Historically Black Colleges and Universities battle it out on the hard court of the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City. The doubleheader rivalry competition brings HBCU-style basketball (VA Union vs. Bowie State and Howard vs. Hampton) to the thousands of HBCU alumni, families, college students, and sports fans in a city known for endless entertainment (NYC) and in a venue known for record-breaking, heart stopping, nail biting basketball, Madison Square Garden. The MEAC conferences in conjunction with the CIAA conference have both agreed that the Big Apple Classic is a major boost to both leagues, and strongly endorse the Big Apple Classic. In addition The Big Apple Classic will bring a college fair, step-show and drum line competition, vendors on MSG concourse, an awesome pre-game show and a half-time show not to be missed! PLAYTIME BASKETBALL will perform during the 3 Ball Shootout. |
