Good Morning Everyone!
We had a very productive week of practice last week but this coming week is even more important. The varsity only has 2 more weeks until our first game so every practice is huge. This week we should start dealing with some sore and tired arms so please help me stay on top of it. I told the boys to always let us know if they are sore but that soreness is OK, pain is not! If they are experiencing pain we need to know right away. We will practice everyday this week from 3-6 just like normal. Then take the weekend off, although varsity may practice Saturday depending on how we look late in the week.
The following week we will have our Orange and Blue Game on Tuesday January 31st!!!! JV and Freshman will play at 4:00 and the varsity game will start around 6:30. This will be a dry run for us and we will play it like a real game. It will also be a great time to come see what we've got this season. We want to pack the stands and try and simulate game situations. The concession stand will be open for business but we will not charge a fee to get in the ballpark. Please encourage your friends and family to come out on the 31st and support the Blue Wave!
Please remember fair share ($250 Freshman, $350 JV and $600 varsity) is due by Monday February 13th unless you have made other arrangements with me. And any arrangement is acceptable just please let me know what you need. All the handouts (Media Guide, Outfield Banners, Corporate Sponsors, Spirit Wear and Golf Tournament) are up on the website and I have copies as well if you need them. Cleats and turfs are to be ordered and paid for at Lloyd Clarke Sports. Spirit wear money and forms are due no later than this Friday, January 27th. Spirit wear checks are made out to Baker's Sports. All other checks are made out to University of Florida. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. Looking forward to a great season!

Good morning!
We just completed Hell Week and while attendance wasn't what we've had in the past the players that were there worked extremely hard. Tryouts are Tuesday! We will start at 3:00, right after school, and end around 7:00 or so. All three teams will tryout together so it may look like mass confusion at times but we will finish in one day. The teams will be selected and posted that night and all teams will practice the next day.
Full baseball uniform and all equipment necessary is required for tryouts and practice.
Our parent meeting will be held Thursday , the 19th, at 6:00 in the cafeteria. Every player should have at least one parent or guardian in attendance. All questions will be answered at the meeting.
We will have an open field tomorrow at PKY from 3:00-5:00. All coaches will be there to help and provide instruction.
Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested. Thanks and Go Blue Wave!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I just wanted to lay out our early January schedule.
We will start our Hell Week conditioning on Wednesday January 4th and run through Friday January 13th. It is very important that any student planning on going out for one or more teams attends Hell Week. We will condition from 3:00 to 5:00 each day.
Due to our observance of Martin Luther King Jr Day, the official P.K. Yonge Baseball tryouts will be held Tuesday January 17th from 3:00 - 7:00. All three teams will tryout simultaneously so it will be hectic and run long but we will finish in one day. All three teams will be selected that night and posted on our website and on the gym door. Practice will begin the next day on Wednesday, January 18th, and the parent meeting will be held on Thursday the 19th at 6:00.
On MLK Day, January 16th, the field will be open and the coaches will be there to work with anyone wanting to get in some extra hitting, running or throwing, etc. I will open the field up from 3:00 to 4:30 or so.
Have a safe and Happy New Year!
Please let me know if you have any questions and forward this announcement to anyone that might be interested in trying out.
Thanks,
Brian Simmons, Head Baseball Coach

On Satuday, December 3rd at 8:00 AM we will be having our annual field work.

Friday, November 25
Winter conditioning starts this next week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 - 4:30 and will continue for the next three weeks.
Sunday, September 4
We had 36 players show up to our Fall baseball meeting last Tuesday so we will have enough players to field a JV and a Varsity team. As always, some players will have to play on both teams. Quite a few of the varsity players are playing travel ball this fall and won't be available full time. Remember I advise all players whose goal is to play baseball beyond high school, to play competitive baseball during the summer and fall. Just please give me your schedule and tell me when you will pitch.
We will start fall practices on Tuesday, September 13th, just after school, 3:00 - 5:00. We will practice on Thursday that week as well. All practices will run until around 5:00 and we won't practice more than twice a week, usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We don't have a field during the fall so practices will consist of stretching and warming up, pitchers throwing bullpin and position players batting in the cage. We will also do strength and agility training focusing on lower arm/hand strength and speed work.
The cost for the fall will be $90. If you need n orange jersey, that will be another $25 and a hat is $10. So the maximum amount anyone will have to spend this fall is $125. All fees and uniform costs are due by our fisrt game September 20th. Cash or checks made out to the University of Florida.
We will also have our fall Beef O'Brady's breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, October 22nd. More to follow on this event...
9/20 at Newberry 5:30 Mixed game
9/21 at GHS JV 5:00, Varsity 7:00
10/6 at Buchholz JV 5:00, Varsity 7:00
10/20 at Newberry 5:30 Mixed game
11/7 at Santa Fe JV 5:00, Varsity 7:00
We will probably add more games as more teams are trying to figure out if they have enough players to field a team. Please let me know if you have any questions.

This is the last week of the summer season! We jammed 25 games into a short 6-week season without a home field to play on! This involved a lot of travel, but in all it has been a good summer.
This week we have Varsity at St. Francis at 5:00 (players report at 4:00).
Wednesday JV plays at Newberry at 4:00 and Varsity at 6:00 (JV players report to the field at 3:00 and Varsity players at 5:30).
Thursday Varsity plays at GHS at 5:00, please be there at 4:00.
As always all players are welcome to come to any or all of the games, JV or Varsity.
We will be discussing the Fall schedule later this month.
As always, thank you for your continued support of the P.K. Yonge baseball program, its players and coaches!
Thanks,

Another great season comes to an end for P.K. Yonge Baseball!
Another post-season appearance and a final overall record of 24-5, that makes 48-10 over the last two seasons!
Our three graduating seniors (Manny Kurki-Fox, Tyler Hagin and Josh Stewart) will have a chance to play at the next level -- that will make five players from PKY playing in college baseball in the last two years as well.
P.K. Yonge baseball is officially back on track!
Now the hard work begins for the 2012 PKY baseball season.
We will have a field work day Friday after school (3-5 PM) for varsity players and we need a few dads to help take down the fence and store it properly.
We will have a player meeting next Thursday, May 12th at 2:45 PM to discuss summer baseball. We already have 25 games on the books, including JV and varsity.
The banquet (May 25th at 6 PM) planning is underway, all players meals will be paid for by the team and everyone else will be $10. Checks are to be made out to the UF and are due by May 18th.
I need each PKY baseball family to let us know how many will be attending ASAP so we casn get the total number to the caterer.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

PREP ZONE POWER POLL - WEEK #5
www.theprepzoneonline.com
PK Yonge (Gainesville) sets school record, remains on top
04-11-11
GAINESVILLE, FL - PK Yonge (Gainesville) got off to its best start in school history last week and remained on top of this week's baseball Prep Zone Power Poll.
The Blue Wave (20-0) went 3-0 last week and secured the top seed in the Class 2A-District 5 tournament, but they had to survive an 8-inning, 7-6, win over Union County (Lake Butler) to stay unbeaten. They received four of the five first-place votes with Providence (Jacksonville) (18-3) picking up the other first-place vote to remain second. The Stallions won both of their games last week and have won eight of their last
10 games.
Fleming Island (Orange Park) (16-2) is ranked third, followed by Trinity Catholic (Ocala) (16-3), which dropped one spot to fourth following a 2-1 week, and Buchholz (Gainesville) (15-5), which moved up one spot to fifth.
Sandalwood (Jacksonville) dropped one spot to sixth. The Saints (16-4) lost to Mandarin (Jacksonville) for a second time this season last week, 4-2.
Santa Fe (Alachua) and Forest (Ocala) are tied for seventh. Santa Fe (15-3) remained where they were last week after a 2-1 week that included a 9-7 loss to #11 Suwannee (Live Oak). Meanwhile, Forest defeated previous #11 Dunnellon, 8-0, for a second time this season. The Wildcats (15-4) went 3-0 last week and have won eight of their past 10 games.
Fernandina Beach (15-6) remained ninth, while Baker County (Glen St. Mary) fell three spots to 10th. The Wildcats (15-5) dropped after a 2-1 week that included a 14-7 loss to Suwannee (Live Oak). The Suwannee Bulldogs (13-6) had two big wins (Santa Fe and Baker County), however a 2-1 loss at Fernandina Beach prevented them from moving into the top 10.
Suwannee (13-6) is ranked 11th, followed by Episcopal (Jacksonville) (16-5) at No. 12. Chiefland (14-3), which is 10-0 in its last 10 games, is tied for 13th with Dunnellon, which dropped two spots in this week's poll. However, the Tigers (15-6), despite the loss to Forest, have won nine of their last 10 games. Trenton (13-4-1), which went 1-1-1 last week, dropped one spot to round out the top 15.
Mandarin (Jacksonville) and Clay (Green Cove Springs) are receiving votes again this week.

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing spring break! Now it's back to work on our #1 goal to win a FHSAA Baseball Championship--something that has never been accomplished at P.K. Yonge!
The New Orleans trip was a lot of fun, we got rained out and never played a game but we had a blast! An NBA game, a workout on a great field, a Bourbon Street stroll, the French market, Delgado DH, Deanies, the World War II Museum and much more. No problems at all and great food.
We have lots of baseball this week. Monday the JV and Varsity play at home against Union County. Tuesday and Wednesday the Varsity will practice (2:45-5:45) while the JV has home games versus Buchholz and GHS at 6:00.
Thursday both squads go to Trenton for a huge district contest (bus leaves PKY at 2:45). This is the last JV game of the season. Then Friday the Varsity travels to Bronson with the time still T.B.A. because of the PKY Prom. More info will come soon.
Please remember all Beef O'Brady's money is due no later than this Wednesday. Also, the Freshmen team has a meeting at 3:00 PM Tuesday in the baseball bleachers, uniforms will be turned in and signed for at this time. Beef's money can be turned in then as well.
We have added a game to replace the rained out New Orleans game. We will play at Santa Fe High School on Thursday April 21st at 7:00 PM.
Very lucky to pick up a game against a great team at this late date--it should be a wonderful game.

The varsity team leaves for New Orleans Monday morning and we are very excited as we look towards the end of the season.
The freshmen ended their season after a very busy two months. The JV has one more action-packed week after we return from spring break.
When we return on Monday, April 4th, The JV and varsity will have home games vs. Union County. This will be Dairy Night at the ballpark and we want to pack the stadium. There will be many fun events and give-aways related to the dairy industry and specifically Lussier Dairy, one of our corporate sponsors.
The varsity game starts at 7 PM. There is no school that day but the JV needs to be at the field by 3 PM, Varsity by 5 PM.
We will have a short player meeting for the freshmen team on Tuesday, April 5th, right after school. All freshmen players should be in attendance and should plan on turning in their jersey and PKY game pants. We will also discuss the summer team and the baseball banquet.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, and have a great spring break!

These will be used to feed the boys between meals and so that we may have drinks for the games and the practices.

The 2011 PK Baseball Golf Scramble is complete and was a great success! We had a record 94 golfers participate and a large number of hole sponsors and gifts for the participants. In addition, the mulligan sales and the putting tournament contributed additional revenues for the program. Pictures of the event are posted on the Walgreens photo website.
An event like this takes months of time and effort to pull off and thanks to the great player and parent volunteers we have in the PK family, we were able to make it a special day for everyone. That is very important for next year. People remember and tell their friends about their experience which just makes the tournament bigger and better.
I would like to thank all the volunteers who contributed their time, special skills, food, drinks, ice, paper goods, gifts and prizes and for making a special effort to recruit participants and sponsors. I won't list you by name because I am afraid that I might leave someone out but you know who you are and we deeply appreciate you. Without your help and support, this tournament just wouldn't be possible.
Also a special thank you to three individuals who were key players in making this event possible. Coach Simmons for running interference with the participant forms coordinating many of the gifts and prizes for the participants and organizing the players for the days activities. Coach Hawk for his tireless efforts to recruit so many PK alumni to participate in the tournament and for securing a record number of sponsors this year. Finally, Terri Wilder for organizing all of the days activities, working with the various vendors and parent volunteers, printing all of the materials, signs and trophies, securing hole prizes and keeping the registration activities straight. You were all awesome.
Thanks again to everyone for making this tournament so successful. We look forward to a great tournament next year and a great season of PK Baseball.

or if you know the person who is listed as a volunteer or coordinator, you can contact them and they can update me on the plan for their area of responsibility. If there is a " ? " after an item, that means that we don't yet have a volunteer.
