CIF Playoffs Result

Quarterfinal match, Friday, Feb 27, 7PM vs. Westview at Poway HS Stadium

Westview won 2-0 on 2 early goals, followed by a long stalemate.

Playoff roster moves:

In addition to Evan Myers and Luke Flud who moved up from JV to Varsity during the Palomar League season,  Sean Gallagher and Zach McDonnell have been called up to Varsity for the playoffs.

The Poway Titans boys team is seeded fourth in the D1 bracket, which means a bye Tuesday Feb 24 and a home game Friday Feb 27 at 7 PM against either Westview or Grossmont.   Westview/Grossmont game is 6PM Tuesday at Westview.

Varsity won 5:0.  Three goals by Zach Olow, assisted by Jordan Dial, Warren Ashcroft, and Evan Myers, plus a goal by Dallin Hayne assisted by Kevin Jenkins and a PK goal by Keith Cline.  Keith also was in goal for the whole game to record the shutout.

JV won 3:0.  Goals by Matt Landon, Zach Lentz, and Darien Naraghi.  Shutout in goal by Jake Gamez.

Freshmen tied 1:1.  Goal by Connor Sabourin.  El Camino scored late on a PK to tie.

Friday, Feb 6 results, Carlsbad at PHS:

Varsity won 4:3.  Poway goals were scored by Dallin Hayne assisted by Warren Ashcroft, Zach Olow assisted by goalkeeper Keith Cline, Zach Olow unassisted on a free kick, and Alex Henry assisted by Conrad Snell.  Carlsbad's third goal came in the 45th minute of the second half.

The Freshman and JV games were postponed due to wet grounds.

Despite missing several starters to grades, suspensions, and injuries, the Varsity team won 9:0.  Poway goals by Jordan Dial (Alex Henry), Jordan Dial (Alex Henry), Dallin Hayne (Alex Henry), Alex Henry (Jordan Dial), Conrad Snell (Alex Henry), Dallin Hayne (Brian Budniewski), Brian Budniewski (Conrad Snell), Nick Lane (Alejandro Berry), and Alejandro Berry (Tanner Orr).  Keith Cline and Michael Maceyko combined for the shutout.

Friday Jan 23 results at Rancho Buena Vista:

Varsity suffered the first loss of the year 1:3, the only goal by Alex Henry on a PK.

JV lost 1:6, the goal scored by Guillermo Gama.

Freshman game was postponed until Monday due to wet grounds. Freshman game result:  Poway 1:0 RBV.  Goal by Kalein Martin, assisted by Carlos Rodriguez.  Shutout by Philip Bru.

Wednesday, Jan 21 results, all games at Carlsbad:

Varsity won 2:1 with a last-minute goal to balance a controversial Carlsbad PK goal.  Poway goals scored by Eric Budniewski (assisted by Jordan Dial), and Dallin Hayne (assisted by Alex Henry).  San Diego Soocer News article on the game:

Palomar League play starts Jan 21

Not the same old league - only Rancho Bernardo is retained with Poway in the new league alignment.  Other schools are El Camino, Carlsbad, Vista, and Rancho Buena Vista.

Because of the referee difficulties this year, the varsity games will be scheduled as double-headers.  In the first 5 games, the boys will play at 5PM and the girls at 7PM.  In the last 5 games, the girls and boys will swap - girls at 5PM and boys at 7PM.

First week's games:  Jan 21, 5PM at Carlsbad (the game will be at Pine Ave Park in Carlsbad because the high school stadium is being rebuilt); Jan 23, 5PM at Rancho Buena Vista. 

Wednesday, Jan 14 Results:

Varsity won 3:1 over Escondido. Goals by Alex Henry (PK), Warren Ashcroft (assisted by Alex Henry), and Leif Kristjansson (assisted by Warren Ashcroft).

JV tied Escondido 0:0.  Shutout by Zach McDonnell.

Freshmen beat Escondido 3:0.  One goal by Carlos Rodriguez and two by Michael Dilley; shutout by Philip Bru.

Due to rain and standing water on the PHS Freshman field, the last Freshman pool play game was cancelled and Westview was declared the Group A winner based on average points per game.  (The cancelled game was to have been between Westview and West Hills. Westview would have required a win, tie, or 2 goals to win the group.  If Westview had failed to gain any of those objectives, Poway would have been the group winner.)

JV wins 2:0.  Goals by Evan Myers and Freddy Garcia (assisted by Jeff Meyer).  Shutout by Zach McDonnell in goal.

Varsity game suspended due to weather and field conditions at about the 25-minute mark with Poway leading 1:0 .  The game was completed Thursday afternoon.  Each team scored once in the continuation, giving Poway a 2-1 win overall.  Poway goals by Dallin Hayne, assisted by Alex Henry, and Zach Olow, assisted by Eric Budniewski.

 Poway HS is seeded number 1!

The first game for the Titans will be a quarterfinal contest between PHS and the winner of the 1st round game between Calexico and Vista.

Game time for the quarters is Saturday, Feb 23, 7:00 pm at PHS Stadium.
