12/29/07 Belts change hands.
Team Timmons and Strickland strip the belts from Team Nutter and Parker by winning 85% of match play. This was however before the bylaws governed the challenges.
Team Nutter and Parker gave a lot of weight to Timmons and Strickland and could not over come the odds.
1/11/2008 Belts change hands
Team Hodges and Smith focused on the challenge at hand to win 14 out of a possible 18 holes.
John Smith reported in a phone interview Sunday morning that he and his partner Bill Hodges were on fire and that they were both prepared mentally for the match. When asked, Smith said that the Key driver for Team Timmons and Strickland was long off the tee but left of the fairways most of the day (trees,OB). This gave Strickland and his team mate little to work with or the opportunity to throw darts on his approach shots.
Smith said he and Hodges both putted well. Thier game plan was to stay in the fariways and glose to the green on all approach shots. "We knew putting would be our weekness but yesterday everything fell in the cup once on the greens".
Final comment from John " We knew we would win the belts. Who's next ".
1/20/2008 SC Winter proves cold for the buckeye.
Brian Newman convienced his partner southern born and bread Jeff Helton that the winter weather last weekend was to cold for golf. Standing at the club house waiting to take pictures of the golfers durring match play I observed many elderly gentlemen putting on the practice green adorned in thier winter vest and ear muffs. I interviewed one of the golfers in the group. " How is it to play in this kind of weather". The elderly gentleman answered "we play every weekend, cold, freezing rain or the sizzling summer heat. Golf is for men who love the challenge and can abapt to Mother Nature and the ellements she dishes out. The PGA doesn't postpone match play due to cold or heat"
Why depend on the elderly to set pace. I say learn from them not be shamed by them. Love the game. Play the game even in Mother Natures extreme conditions.
I say pull up our nickers, lace our shoes and lets play in harmony with a true competitive spirit the way the game is intended to be play, "by Men".
Belts Stay with Champs Hodges/Smith.
Saturday after many discussions of major mass destruction, pain raining down and no mercy from team member Shane Parker to all that would listen, the team of Hodges and Smith left him speachless. "We conentraded on our game and what we needed to do as individuals to be a well oiled machine" stated one half of the current champions (Bill Hodges). "We left little dought after Saturday who the better is" commented John Smith. "It will be a while before the team of nutter and Parker get another shot, so I suggest they practice hard".
Parker said Monday after the match play " Saturday they were the better team". Nutter could not be reach for comments he took Monday off to allow his partner Parker take the all the slack.
Brass win the Belts 2/10/08
Wind played no part in the victory of Newman and Helton Sunday at Governors Run. The ninth hole par three prove to set pace for the back nine as well. Brian threw a dart at the pin (4 feet) and partner Jeff Helton holed it for the win on the front nine. After the turn Newman and Helton had the champs needing to close out the back nine. After the dust settled Team Brass proved to be to much. "we played well today and won the GOLD and baby it feels good" Stated Brian. "I don't care who's next we just want to play" commented Jeff. " Although we might take off a week to enjoy the belts". Mondays going to be sweet especially after winning the GOLD.
Team Brass prove to much for Team Express 2/16/08
Brian Newman and Jeff Helton now have defended the Title belts twice. "We prove to be the better team this weekend at our home course," said Brian we played our game and didn't try to play those guys hole by hole. "I new after I made the 50 foot plus putt on hole number three we were in the zone" replied Jeff smiling as he housted the belts. I guess we will hold on to this for another week, Who's next. Gibbs and Russell played about as good as a team could but team Brass played alittle better today.
