PREDATORS finish 4 & 1 in two tournaments in a row!
The Pacific Coast Predators have now completed two tournaments this summer. In both of these tournaments The Predator finished with a 4 & 1 record, earning 3rd place in each of these tournaments.
In The California Thunder AFA National Qualifier in Barstow, CA. The Predators opened up the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Wildfire. On the mound for The Predators was none other then Lindsey C. who gave up NO runs and only two hits while striking out eight. The Predators second game was against Redrum "Gold". This time we saw newcomer "E"laine C. take the mound and freeze the bats of the opposition. The Predators won this game 7 to 4 thanks to the bats of Brittney G., Lauren C. who each had two hits. Darrah R., Kristine P., Caitlin B. and Sarah J. each had a hit. Ashley S. scored twice in this game. Game #3 saw The Predators take on The Az. Mustangs. Gail G. (aka LBG) took the mound and held the Mustangs to 3 runs on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts. Although the game was fairly close, Lauren C. stunned the crowd with a 3-run homerun to end the game - final score Predators 5 / Mustangs 3. In game #4 The Predators took on the Ca. Titans in a 6 to 5 victory, thanks to back to back lead-off triples by Caitlin B. & Kristine (The Rookie)in the 5th inning. Caitlin B. led the offense by going 3 for 3 and Dana I. went 2 for 2 and a walk. This game also saw Ashley "Sawdust" S. blast a 2-run homerun in the 4th. We believe the ball is still rolling and should be arriving at Lake Havasu any day now. The final game of this tournament saw The Predators take on Sudden Impact "Gold" In the 107 degree climate and after two tough games previously this day, The Predators faced their first loss and elimination from the tournament. The Highlight of this game has to go out to Kristine (The Rookie) P. for a blast over the left fielders head for a homerun. Final score: Sudden Impact "Gold" 4 - Predators 2 - Special note - Brittney G. led the Predators with a .455 average.
Our next tournament was The SFS Rebels national Qualifier. Game #1 saw The Predators face Desparados - In this game Lindsey C. was on the mound and held the opposition to NO HITS - Congrats Lindsey. On the offense side of the Predators, Again Lindsey C. did her thing by going 4 for 4. Other big blows came from the Bats of Brittney G. who hit a 3-run triple in the 5th inning and Katie "K-DOGG" W. with a 2-run single in the 4th. The Defensive play of the game came when on a "planned " pick-off play at first base, Genna A. let the ball get overthrown to her, in turn letting the baserunner feel confident they had an easy stolen base, unfortunatley for the baserunner, Darrah R. was in right field and was able to "hop" right on the "intentional" overthrow and nail the runner at 2nd - Great Job Darrah.
Game #2 saw The Predators take on Thunder - Again Lindsey C. was on the mound and threw a 2 hitter, while allowing only 1 run. With the Bat, Kristine (The Rookie) cleared the bases with a basesloaded triple and then was drove in by Sarah J. with a single down the 3rd base line. Final score Predators 4 / Thunder 1
In game #3 The Predators faced off against the Ca. Cougars. This time with Gail (aka LBG) G. on the mound, giving Lindsey C. a much needed break, Gail made short work of the Cougars by throwing a NO-HITTER. The offense was powered off by a bunt single by Darrah "Rabbit" R. in the 5th and then a super-size triple by Genna "Magic" A., followed by a single by Brittney G. Also in this game we saw "E"laine C. go 3 for 3, an outstanding addition to The 2004 Predators. The defensive play of the game came from the dugout when Coach Frank subbed in Ashley "Sawdust" S. in centerfield after one of the Cougars reached 1st base. In what appears to be the most amazing and ingenious bit of coaching this writer has ever seen. After sticking "Sawdust" in the game for her tremendous arm strength, The next batter loops a single into short centerfield and the baserunner attempted to continue pass 2nd and run for 3rd. Sure enough the strategy worked out for the Predators, when "Sawdust" was able to throw the runner out at 3rd for the final out of the game. Again, this writer can not say enough about the spectacular ability of the coach in this situation.
On to game #4 where The Predators faced off against The Sliderz, with Lindsey C. on the mound we saw her complete the game for a 7-1 victory. The offense for The Predators came from the bats of Ashley "Sawdust" S. (3 for 3 - 2 singles, a double, a stolen base, 2 runs scored, Caitlin "Babycakes" B. (2 for 3 triple & single),"E"laine C. (2 for 2), Kristine "The Rookie" P. (triple & rbi)and Lauren C., Sarah J. & Darrah R. each with a single.
In the final game The Predators faced The Pumas, in what was sure to be a showdown, The Predators seemed a bit tired after their win against The Sliderz. Unfortunatley, The Predators lost, while holding The Pumas to only 2 runs in seven innings, The bats of The Predators were nowhere to be found. Defensive highlights came when Jessie "T.S." H. was able to throw one of the speedy Pumas out at first which sure looked to be an easy single for the batter - Great Job Jess! - Another great defensive play included Genna "Magic" A. running down a player for the out at first, while not allowing the runner at 3rd to score for the final out of an inning. Final score: Predators 0 / Pumas 2.
Overall this writer has to say that he has been pretty impressed with the ability of these young ladies who call themselves The Predators. With great hitting and fielding, along with a bench that can go at least 2 starters deep at every position and incredible 1st base coaching by Rich B. and Pitcher handling by Coach Fred C., we expect these ladies to go far in the upcoming ASA State Competition this upcoming weekend. For now, this writer must sign off, so remember "That the way it is" Aloha
