Owego's National team willl play its first game 7/26 at OFA versus the JC Police team. The American team game is being rescheduled. West Corners A, Endicott B Teams Claim 10U Championships In the thrilling finals of the 14th annual 10U tournament, West Corners A used a 4 run 6th inning rally to defeat Johnson City A 7-6 in the A Division championship game while Endicott B held off Johnson City B 9-7 for their B/C Division title at Hyde Park on Saturday July 12. Endicott A finished third in the A Division while Nichols-Tioga did the same in the B/C Division. The games capped the two-week long tournament hosted by the Owego Little League. Owego 12 and Under Tournament Will Start July 21 The annual Owego Tournament for 12 and Under teams will start Monday July 21st at 6:00PM at Hyde Park. The tournament will feature many teams from the area competing in a round-robin segment for seeding followed by a double-elimination final (all teams involved). If you need directions to Hyde Park, click on the Field Locs/Maps menu item at the left. Handout: Owego Baseball Tournaments Owego Softball Tournament a Big Success Owego hosted their annual County Softball Tournament at Hyde Park June 28th and 29th. Six teams from the county competed with Newark Valley emerging as the winner. Tioga Center was runner-up and Spencer finished third. Teams from Apalachin, Candor, and Owego also competed.

Owego Girls Softball Announces Winter Training Program Owego Girls Softball VP Mark Warfle has announced the winter training program for 2008-09. The program will run from October 2008 through Early April 2009. It is open to girls registereed in the Owego Girls Softball program. There is no cost to the participants. To register contact Mark Warfle at 687-1586 or mwarfle@hotmail.com. Registrations will be accepted up to October 3, 2008. For further information and the tentative schedule see the attached handout. Weekly Skills Clinics National and American League players will have the opportunity to work on their skils at the weekly skills clinics. No need to sign up - just show up. Pitching: The league will conduct pitching clinics every Tuesday at 6:00 in the pitching area between Rafis and Beauter Fields. Baseball Skills: Starting May 24th, every Saturday at 3:00PM the league will be conducting skills clinics. Participants will receive a hat and T-Shirt courtesy of All-Star Sports. Opening Day: Baseball 16, Weather 0 All week the forecast was for rain on Saturday May 3rd, but Mother Nature knows better than to mess with Opening Day. Sixteen games were scheduled, the weather cleared, and 16 games were played. Following the traditional Little League Parade, the opening ceremonies were held on Nick Raftis Field - hosted by Jim Raftis. The ceremonies were highlighted by the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and the National Anthem by the 4th and 5th grade players from Owego Elementary School, under the direction of Sue Peacock. The Owego Elks presented the American Flag and the POW/MIA flag was presented by the Vietnam Veterans, who then conducted the flag raising. President Ken Winters thanked the assemblage for all the volunteer help they provide the league, and presented Special Appreciation Awards to Sue Peacock and Ben Dragon for their service to the league. The Dick Horton "I do it for the kids" Award, esatblished in memory in 2003, was presented this year to Mike Slavetskas, coach, league president, umpire, and builder of the Teener program, and to Rose Winters, coach in both baseball and softball, concession worker, and long time uniform manager. The first pitches were thrown, including one by new pitcher "Atec Jr." who is joining the re-configured machine-pitch division this year. Then on to the games - all 16 covering Tee-Ball, Modified (Machine Pitch), American Baseball and Softball, and National Baeball and Softball. The season is under way. If it continues as well as opening day, it will be wonderful. Game Schedule Available - Will be Updated as Required We will be updating the schedule periodically to show Baseball National standings and for reschedules. The updates will be posted here and at the park. The on-line schedule is in the League Information section. The drop-down does not update the upload date so check anyhow. Staff Meeting - Wednesday Aug 13 - 7:00 - Clubhouse Volunteer Opportunities The league has oppportunities for you. Join in the fun. Support the kids, baseball, and the community. UMPIRES: We are always looking for volunteer umpires. Whether once a week, or more if you love it, you can enjoy the best seat in the house. Need training - no problem. We conduct training sessions to teach you how. Contact Jim Medovich on 754-6319. WORKBEE DAYS: Like puttering around in the dirt? Maybe you are good at handyman tasks. Things always need fixing. New things need to be built. Fields need to be maintained. This year's workbees are April 19th and 26th. Not available those days? We can always use help during the season too. |
