Game Reports & News: LADY OWLS OPEN WITH A CONFERENCE WIN!!!

Thursday, April 10
LADY OWLS OPEN WITH A CONFERENCE WIN!!!

The Oscoda Lady Owls opened with a win at home on Wednesday!  The Owls hosted the Pinconning Spartans and blanked the visitors, 4-0.

Senior Captain, Tricia McDonald, netted a hat-trick with one goal in the first half and then sealing the win with two more in the second half.  Freshman Chelsea Carraway scored the first goal in her varsity career when she took a Senior Captain Erika Nolff pass and slammed it home.  Nolff picked up two more assists in the match.   Nolff has been an All Conference Defender for the last three seasons but has moved up into the midfield this year.  Senior Captain Aubrey Thurston and Senior Deanna Dykes each picked up an assist.  The Owls took 25 shots on goal and controled the ball for the majority of the time.

Sophomore Nicole Jackson started her first varsity game in goal and earned the shutout.  Jackson stopped all nine shots she faced and was credited with two intercepts.

Leading the defense was Senior Margaret Negro with 13 intercepts.  Junior Katia Kotula had 9 intercepts and 9 steals.  Nolff collected 9 steals and 4 intercepts.

"We had to shake off a lot of dust in the first half but I was pleased with the passing and the way we were shooting the ball", said Head Coach Gary Schneider.  "We have a good start on the season and now know what needs to be worked on for the coming week."

Oscoda is now 1-0 in the NEMC and overall.  They play in Standish on Friday and host Tawas on Wednesday.  Both matches will be played at 5:00pm.
