Orono Thunder Soccer’s fall traveling soccer program is run quite differently than the summer traveling soccer program, as the club has minimal involvement in establishing the teams for the fall soccer program – we simply facilitate the fielding of teams. If you did not play on a summer travel team and you are interested in playing fall travel, you will need to contact the coach of a summer team at your age level to determine if they are planning to create a team for the fall season and if spots are available.
Below are the responsibilities of the summer coaches in pulling a team together for the fall soccer program:
· Assign a coach
· Assign a manager
· Facilitate mandatory, adult, online background check
· Select a team age and playing level
· Assign players
· Obtain uniforms for players
· Collect registration forms
· Collect registration fee
· Collect medical release forms and keep in manager’s folder
· Attend mandatory MYSA coaches meeting
Please note the following points to take into consideration when putting your team together:
· Orono Thunder Soccer will not provide funds to pay a coach
· Roster size changes by age level
· Kids playing at one age level right now will play in the next age level up for the fall, or the same level that they will play next summer –
· Uniforms have been a problem in the past, as players who did not play in the summer do not have new uniforms – the club has some remaining uniforms for purchase, but not many, so you may have to get a uniform from another player that played in the summer, but is not playing in the fall
· League play may begin in September and will end by mid-October.
Orono Thunder Soccer will do the following to facilitate your fielding a team:
· Submit teams to MYSA
· Assign fields for home games
· Assign referees for home games
· Supply referee payment for home games
Remember, it is the coaches responsibility to form a fall team if they wish. Orono Thunder Soccer will not take any part in placing kids on teams this fall.
