Tryout Results Completed for Spring/Summer 2010
Announcing the teams for Orono Thunder Soccer Summer 2010!!
We have completed the preliminary team placements for the Summer ’10 Orono Soccer season. Registration will begin November 1, 2009. In order to reserve your spot, you must register your child by December 31, 2009. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of your roster spot.
In addition, as you can see we are in need of additional players for some age groups. If you know someone that wants to play but did not attend the tryouts, encourage them to register as well. We always attempt to find a roster spot for all registered players but can not guarantee it so register early.
The team placements were done based upon tryout results and supplemented with coach feedback. Players in each age group were placed according to their overall results during the tryouts conducted by independent evaluators. Multiple teams at the same age group and level will be balanced out based on tryout results. If more than one team exists for a given level of play, we will attempt to keep them as closely aligned with previous years as is feasible.
Keep in mind that these team placements may be modified prior to the beginning of the soccer season. Players will ONLY be moved up to a higher team or the next age group. We will not move a player down (e.g. from Maroon to Gold, or C2 to C3). Once the registration period is closed, coaches on the higher level teams may be involved in pulling players up to complete roster spots.
Team placements will not be finalized until registration is completed.
ONLY THOSE THAT ATTENDED TRYOUTS WERE PLACED ON TEAMS AT THIS TIME. IF YOU DID NOT ATTEND TRYOUTS, YOU WILL NOT BE PLACED ON A TEAM UNTIL AFTER REGISTRATION ENDS.

What types of things are evaluated in the tryouts?
The Orono Thunder Soccer Club uses multiple sources to determine team formations. Our primary sources of information are tryout evaluations and coaches feedback assessments.
Orono Thunder Soccer contracts independent assessors to conduct our tryouts. These tryouts are designed to provide a non-biased and thorough assessment of a player’s ability. During the tryout process, players will be assessed on four major components of the game of soccer. These will include but are not limited to:
- Technical skills – ball control, passing, tackling, defending
- Tactical skills – field awareness, decision making, positioning, communication
- Physical skills – speed, strength, endurance
- Psychological skills – desire, attitude, effort, sportsmanship
In addition to the tryouts, each player for the current season will be assessed by their coach(s). Information provided by the coach(s) includes the above skills in addition to commitment level. Not all of the above skills can be seen during the tryout process but certainly over a full season they will be seen. These evaluations will be taken into consideration for team placements and are especially helpful if a player is ill or injured when tryouts take place.
The Orono Thunder Soccer Club employs a best team philosophy, where every effort is made to place players at the level at which they will develop to their highest potential while maintaining the best possible soccer experience. In addition, The Orono Thunder Soccer Club attempts to place all players that register on a traveling team. However, due to MYSA roster size restrictions, we may be unable to place all players. Any players affected by these restrictions will be notified as soon as possible.
