FAQ
Do you have a question about Orcutt American Little League (OALL)? Look below for some of the most frequently asked questions. How do I know which Orcutt Little League my child should play in? Orcutt has 2 Little Leagues. They are basically broken up by North Orcutt and South Orcutt. See the area map for exact boundaries in the "Links/Google Maps" folder to the left. Your child must live within a league's boundaries in order to play for that league. However, if your child has previously played in a league and you have moved, they can obtain a waiver to stay in their old league. If parents are separated/divorced and have shared custody of their child, they may use either parents address for eligibility into a League. Proof of residency must be provided every year at registration, even if they are returning players. When is Registration? Registration for spring baseball begins in December, with practice starting in February and league games going from March through mid June. Please check back frequently to this website for updates on locations, times & dates. What do I need to bring to registration? Every player must have their original Birth Certificate and three (3) proofs of residency. These documents are viewed during registration and given back to you. We do not keep them. These documents need to be presented even for returning players. How do I figure out my child's Little League age? Little League is for both boys and girls, age 5 through 12. Little League age is based on your child's age as of May 1st. For example, if your child is currently 4 years old, but will turn 5 before May 1, 2010, they are eligible to sign up for T-Ball. What is the "typical" age break-down for ONLL's different divisions? Division placements always depend on the number of children in each age group, starting with children league age 12 and working its way down. Historically, Orcutt American divisions have been as follows: * o MAJORS: Mostly 11 & 12 year olds, with a few 10 year olds o MINORS: Mostly 9 & 10 year olds, with a few 8 year olds o FARM: Mostly 7 & 8 year olds, with a few 6 year olds o T-BALL: 4 - 6 year olds** Players are required to have at least 1 year of T-Ball before moving up to the Farm Division. *Exceptions to the above guidelines are made on an "individual basis". The President, Player Agent, Parents and prior Manager will be consulted to make the best decision for the determination of the best level for the player in question. ** New in 2011, 4 year olds can play T-Ball if parents feel they are ready How are teams "formed"? Players from Major teams will return to their teams. The major teams will then "draft" players to fill their rosters. All 12 year olds are drafted to Major teams. The Minor teams draft their entire teams. The Farm & T-Ball teams are formed based on a few different qualifications: Special requests for teammates/coaches; by schools; by equal number of returning vs. new players. The last qualification is imperative to having equally talented teams which create a more balanced league. Can I request a teammate or coach? You may request a teammate or coach for T-Ball or Farm Divisions only. We will make every effort to accommodate requests; however, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be fulfilled. Requests must be made at Registration (on the registration form). What if I need financial assistance to cover the registration fees? OALL officers scholarships for those who need financial assistance. Requests are handled confidentially through the League President. For more information, please email: Randysutton@comcast.net How do I volunteer my time, services or donations? OALL is made up of all volunteers. Whether you would like to participate or donate, we would love to hear from you! Please email: Randysutton@comcast.net If you would like to coach, manage or be a team parent; volunteer forms will be available at registration time. Please be aware that because the safety of our children is of the utmost importance, a background check is performed on all volunteers.
