Division 3 All Star bracket grids

August 3rd

August 3rd Orange fights hard but comes up short to Rancho San Diego 4-3.  They lose the Divsion 3 title to a deserving Rancho San Deigo.

Thanks Orange 9/10's for a great run going farther than any other Orange All Star Team in history and earning the respect of each competitor.  We can't wait to see what is in store for next year!

August 2nd

Orange suffers second loss in 24 games as Rancho San Diego takes advantage of defensive errors.  No worries as Orange is ready to come back hard for the last All Star game in the State for this division Monday at 7:00pm.

August 1st

Can you believe the tenacity of our Orange boys!  They never give up and fight back hard even when the other team thinks they have a certain victory.  Rancho San Diego took an early lead from the 1st inning and lead 7-0 by the middle of the 2nd inning.  Orange fought back hard chipping away 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd.  By the middle of the 4th they were chasing 5 runs with a 9-4 score.  Momentum changed in Oranges’ favor with Michael Long's Grand Slam in the bottom of the 4th to bring Orange behind only 1 with a 9-8 score.  Orange continued to hold Rancho San Diego while stacking on 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th to take the lead for the first time in the game.  Although Rancho lead off with a single in the top of the 6th, they remained scoreless allowing Orange to take Game 1 with a narrow 10-9 victory.

July 30th - Sub-Division 3 North Championship Game

Wow! What a game!  Congratulations to our 9/10 team. I think everyone will agree they are AMAZING!  They were ahead in this game going into the 4th inning, they were chasing 1 by the end of the 4th.  They never gave up! The top of the 6th inning...2 runners on, 2 outs, 2 strikes on the batter and BOOM!  Shane Darsow launches one over right field to put Orange on top 7-5.  Goleta Valley South came back and scored 1 in the bottom of the 6th.  They were tough competitors and great group of boys. As the Tournament Director said before the game started both teams have only suffered a loss at the hands of the other.  Our crazy and exciting win after 8 innings on Monday was against GVS.  Our first loss Wednesday night was against GVS.  This championship game was for the title of Division 3 North.  There are only 3 other teams in the entire State of California that have done what our boys have done.  We will meet up with one this weekend in San Bernardino at Newmark Little League (mapquest:  Severance Ave at W. 39th St). There is a like tournament in the northern part of the state for the other two teams. This next and finale tournament for our boys will be a best 2 out of 3 series with all games being played at Newmark LL at 7p, Sat, Sun, Mon (if necessary).  Come out and cheer on the team as they play for California Division 3 State Championship!

July 27th

The 9/10 team just keeps pluggin' along.  To say they are playing phenomenal baseball is an understatement.  It is so great to see their hustle, sportsmanship, and friendship with one another.  They pulled off an amazing win Monday night against Goleta Valley.  After 4 hours, 2 different fields (yes we had to switch to a lighted field a couple of miles away when the score was tied after 6 complete innings), 8 innings and 13 runs...we went home a very happy team.  This is one for the record books.  The players, parents, coaches and fans will be talking about this one for years to come... or maybe it just seems that way tonight!  After 8 innings the score was Orange 13, Goleta Valley 11.  The  boys play Wednesday night for the championship against Goleta Valley.  The game will again be held at Lakewood Village LL at Heartwell Park in Long Beach on Carson between Woodruff and Bellflower... Come on out and cheer the team on to victory!

The Senior Team played Sunday, July 26  at 9am in Oxnard against Palmdale LL and came up short.  They had to play again at 3:00p against Manhattan Beach and unfortunately lost in a close ball game.  They are now done.  These boys have had a great run and played some excellent baseball.  Congratulations to the entire team!

Saturday July 18

Orange had a great day July 18 with both of our teams winning!  Both teams continue July 19...see times and locations below.  All of the boys played good games... here are a couple of game happenings and scores!

The 9/10's beat Long Beach LL 14-5!  Wow!  William Meissner pitched a full 6 inning game with only throwing 7 pitches in one inning.  Michael Long hit a 3 run homer, Brandon Ducheny hit a triple, Gavin Folsom hit a shot off the fence, Shane Darsow hit a "too hot to handle" shot to short shop to get on base and Julian Heard went 4 hits from 5 at batts!.  Michael Long fielded a ball at first and threw to Gavin Folsom at 3rd to tag the runner out... Sweet! A double play! Everyone did their job... bats were alive, defense was strong... Great Job Boys!

The Seniors beat Long Beach LL in a close game 5-4. Gavin Stoecker pitched 7 solid (and hot) innings.  Ian Massey and Kohl Kelly hit shots to deep center, Chris Johnson had an interesting at bat. "The best strike out he's ever had!", says his dad Bill.  Strike 3 was called, but the catcher dropped the ball (drop 3rd strike, no one on 1st...you run!), catcher couldn't find the ball... a run scored and Chris ran to 2nd!  Spencer Ducheny made a double play by catching a high fly to right and making a perfect throw to Keith Hernandez at short stop to tag the man out at 2nd who had been leading off.  Congratulations to our Senior Team!

Come out an cheer our teams on!

The Southern California Divisional Tournament

There are more Little League Baseball charters in California than in any other state. When Little League officials first organized California leagues into districts in 1958, they created 33 districts that were numbered sequentially from far Northern California to San Diego. As Little League's popularity has grown, and as California's population has expanded and migrated, the number of districts in the state has doubled. Today, there are 70 districts in California, including 40 in Southern California. No other state has as many districts as Southern California.

California was first split into Northern and Southern divisions in 1958. In all but three years since that time, both the Northern and Southern California champions have advanced to the West Region tournament, and have generally been the tournament powerhouses. California teams have won 37 region championships since 1957, and Southern California has led the way with 23 titles.

Southern California's districts are grouped into ten sections, and the winners of these sections compete for the Southland's divisional championship. The five North section winners compete for one championship series berth, and the five South section winners compete for the other. The North and South champions then meet in a best 2-of-3 championship series. In previous years, Southern California's districts were organized into four sections, and in more recent years, eight sections. The manner in which districts are aligned into sections has evolved frequently over time as the number of districts in the division increased.

The Southern California champions advance to the West Region tournament, which is held in San Bernardino, California, each August. The West Region tournament champion then advances to the Little League World Series.

California has sent more leagues (41) to the Little League World Series than any other state, and has produced five Little League World Series champions. Four of these titlists came from Southern California -- El Cajon Northern (1961), Granada Hills National (1963), and Long Beach (1992 and 1993).
