Shaffer Park Pitching Mound Removal Update

Over the past year the OLL BOD has been working with the City of Orange Community Services Department to prevent the removal of the Pitching Mound at Shaffer Park.

The Community Services Department, despite our concerns, and due to the need to have Adult Softball play at Shaffer Park, recently made the decision to remove the mound on NOVEMBER 23rd, 2009.  Their expectation is that JRS/SRS will play at Shaffer utilizing a portable mound.

If you would like to share your concerns regarding the Removal of the Shaffer Park Pitching Mound please email the City of Orange at:

citycouncil@cityoforange.org

Or call the the Mayor at (714) 744-2200.

Disabled baseball players play with the pros

From the Orange County Register

OLL Note: Olive Major Division player Nick Sova played catcher for Howie Kendrick during the Challenger Game at Angel Stadium.

It may have been the slowest-developing single in Angel Stadium history.

Spencer Benson swung the metal bat, made contact with the baseball and churned his little feet until he reached first base, about 40 feet away. That he was held upright by a custom-made wheelchair and was being pushed along by a buddy didn't make it any less joyful. View the whole article...

Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick was at hand to encourage children from 30 Challenger Division Little League teams with physical and mental disabilities. They were at Angel Stadium during the fourth annual Bank of America Orange County Little League Challenger Classic.

The 2009/2010 BOARD OF DIRECTORS needs you!!!

Please consider volunteering your time to help the kids have the best

2009 AA Turkey Tournament Rules2009 AA Turkey Tournament Rules

Here are a few highlights:

Home team supplies the official scorekeeper.  The scorekeeper keeps the official pitch count for both teams.

Coin toss 45 min prior to each game.  If no field duty person is available the managers should handle it.  One tosses the coin and the other calls it.

The 50 pitches max. or 2 innings max. (whichever comes first) for AA-Majors and 60 pitches max. or 3 innings max. (whichever comes first) for Juniors used during the regular season still applies to the tourney.  Days rest is per LL Rule Book Option 2.  All other pitching rules are per the LL Rule Book.

A pitcher who delivers forty-one (41) or more pitches in a game cannot play the position of catcher for the remainder of that day.  This is per the LL Rule Book.

You must have your up-to-date pitching record with you at all games.  Give it to the official scorekeeper before the game.  If you don't have your up-to-date record at the start of the game the game will still be played.  You have until the last out is made to get it to the official scorekeeper.  After that you forfeit regardless of the score.  Also, if you provide it at the end of the game and the scorekeeper determines you used an illegal pitcher, you forfeit.  So carry it with you to all games and make sure its filled in correctly after the game.  Once you accept the completed record from the scorekeeper after the game its final.  No changes will be made so you need to verify it with the scorekeeper immediately.

Game time is 2 hrs from the scheduled start time.  If the next game is scheduled to start 30 minutes after your 2 hr time, then you must stop immediately at the 2 hr mark.  If the next game is scheduled to start 1 hr after your 2 hr time, or if you are the last game of the day on that field, no new inning may start after the 2 hr time limit but you can finish the inning started before the 2 hr time limit.  All games must be finished 30 minutes prior to the start of the next game (except tied games).

The offensive half of an inning is over when 12 batters have had their turn at bat or 3 outs, whichever comes first.  This applies to all divisions and regardless of the number of players on your batting order at the game.  If you have 9 players in you batting order, you get to bat 12 max in the inning.  If you have 14 players on your batting order, you get to bat 12 max in the inning.

Rosters will be provided to each team prior to the tourney and you must carry your roster to all games.  You can borrow 1 player from another team in your division to get you to the minimum required 9 players to start the game.  The player must be from a team in the same division and must bat 9th and can not pitch.  Under no circumstances can you borrow more than 1 player to get you to the 9 min.  If you only have 7 players at the game you will forfeit.  You can not borrow players if you already have 9 at the game.

The umpires judgement is final.  No protests.  This is a fun end-of-the-TAD-season tourney so you need to approach it as such.

Games will be at various locations and times, and on Saturdays and Sundays, maybe weeknights.  So check the schedule carefully.
