Olentangy Lightning Softball Program

The Olentangy Lightning is the community-select softball program for the Olentangy Youth Athletic Association.  The program is focused on providing the opportunity for girls ages 6 to 14 to play competitive softball within a community-based team environment.

The Olentangy Lightning Select Softball Program (8U, 10U, 12U, & 14U) will be holding player assessments for its 2011 teams on Saturday, March 5th at the Olentangy (Lewis Center) High School. 8U & 10U tryouts will begin at 12:00 pm in the Auxiliary Gymnasium.  12U & 14U tryouts will begin at 2:30 pm in the Auxiliary Gymnasium.  Participants are expected to arrive ½ hour early to get registered and warm up.

To register to attend tryouts (no money will be collected) click on  https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/oyaa/2011/Tryout.html .  Players who are not selected to play on a Lightning team will have the opportunity to register for OYAA recreational leagues.

What is Lightning Select Softball?

For 8U, the Lightning Player Development Pitching Machine League is available for 2011.  This league will be local to the Olentangy community and will provide more Olentangy community players an opportunity to develop advanced softball skill-sets and play softball at more competitive level. Teams will begin practicing in early April.  Games will begin in early June and run through mid July. Games will be played as doubleheaders and will occur 2 nights per week with a 14 to 20 games will be played.

For 10U, 12U and 14U, the Lightning Select Teams play 2 nights per week from early June to late July (doubleheaders on M/W or T/TH) in the I270 Softball League.  For non-middle school and non-high school players, practices start in April, for those playing middle school or high school softball practices begin after the conclusion of the school seasons.  On average teams will play between 20-30 games during the 2011 season.  Travel is limited to communities within central Ohio.  Lightning Select Softball is great for players who want more skill development opportunities and more competition than what the recreational leagues might offer.
