Steve Wagoner - Chairman

Steve's Family settled in Oakland in 1955 and he grew up playing recreation baseball and football. He began his coaching career with his children now 19, 24 and 28 in 1985.  He coached t-ball, softball, baseball, basketball, and soccer from kindergarten through high school.   He is a former Tennis Commissioner, Football Director, Softball Coordinator, Summer Travel Coordinator and coach. He is currently Chairman of the Rec Commission, Commissioner of Summer Camp, Commissioner of Buildings & Grounds, and Vice Chairman of the Sports Association of Oakland, our major fundraising group. Steve was a member of the public events committee, site coordinator for Oakland’s first night celebrations, co chair of the Manito Spring Fair, volunteer fireman, served on the Cub Scouts executive board, he also served on the Oakland Board of Adjustments hearing issues related to zoning. As Recreation Chairman, Steve has had many accomplishments to be proud of.  He has insured safety be top priority by implementing and installing the on-deck batting cages on all ball fields and barrier safety netting.  He was instrumental in having the tennis courts rebuilt and relocated allowing all courts to be used without any safety issues.  Under his direction Scoreboards & sprinkler systems were installed, restrooms were completely renovated and many new policies and procedures were put into place making the commission efforts more productive. 



Mike Guadagnino - Vice Chairman

Mike has been coaching Oakland recreation sports for the past 8-years.  He has been coaching baseball (recreation and travel), soccer and softball.  Prior to being appointed as recreation commissioner Mike was league coordinators in both baseball and soccer.  Besides being the Vice-Chairman of the Recreation Commission, Mike also sits as the recording secretary for the Sports Association of Oakland.  Upon becoming recreation commissioner Mike took on the chief role to revamp and modernize the Oakland sports complex. New scoreboards, safety cages, safety netting, safety fence caps and field renovations are all completed tasks from Mike's agenda.  Mike is also President of the local FLOW youth ice hockey organization, the Bergen Edge.



Neil Malmud - Treasurer

Neil has lived in Oakland for over 25 years. He has been the Basketball Commissioner the past 12 years.  Neil is the coach for the JV softball team at Indian Hills High School and has coached Oakland travel softball for almost 18 years. He is a basketball referee with over 35 years of experience officiating High School and recreation travel. Currently, his concentration is on officiating younger girls travel and recreation basketball. Since his tenure in Basketball began, participation in the Oakland Basketball program has more than doubled from just under 300 to over 650 boys and girls grades 1-8.

Chris grew up in Oakland, and has lived here most of his life.  He played Baseball, Basketball, and Football both for Oakland Recreation and Indian Hills HS. He played 4 years of College Baseball and was Captain my senior Year.  Chris has been coaching football in Oakland for 16 consecutive years. He is now in his 4th year as both the Football and Cheerleading commissioner.  Chris also coached the freshman football team and was assistant varsity football coach for four years at Indian Hills as well as the 14yr old baseball team for a year. His father Jerry Maragulia, a former baseball commissioner was the father's club treasurer and contributed greatly to lighting the rec field, as well as coaching rec and travel baseball for 10 years.


Mike Miner

Mike is a "home grown" graduate of Indian Hills High School and Stevens Institute of Technology, where he played soccer at the club, varsity, and Division 3 collegiate levels.  He continues play competitively for Oakland Strikers and recently founded the Oakland Adult Soccer Club for recreational play.  Mike is an Environmental Engineer by profession, with experience in water resources, land preservation and reclamation, environmental permitting and remediation, and sustainability.  Past volunteer involvement at the Borough include the Environmental Commission (Chairman), Zoning Board of Adjustment (Member), and Recreation (league coordinator, coach).

James has been an Oakland resident for over 40 years.  He is a graduate of St. Josephs Regional HS and Ramapo College.  He has been coaching for 11 years in flag football, tackle football, softball, baseball, basketball.   He really enjoy coaching Oakland’s youth because he feels he can really make a difference in each child’s experience with sports.  James typically goes way above average when coaching a team; whether it’s organizing practices or coming up with some fun events, he wants each child to have a great time playing while learning the sport.  He played football, basketball, hockey and baseball growing up and still enjoys those sports today.

Bob Scalabrini

Bob has Coached both boys recreation basketball and travel teams, and the same for boys baseball. Currently coaching girls soccer and basketball grades 3-4.  Bob was instrumental in the installation of the new golf netting and starting the Oakland Tennis clinic.
