Oakdale Youth Football & Cheer:2007 Season

Oakdale Youth Football & Cheer

The 2007 Stampede Season has come to an end.  I would like to thank everyone for making our 2nd season such a huge success on and off the field.  We had a record number of players and cheerleaders and once again established Oakdale as the best fans in Cen-Cal.  The football teams were able to pile up a few wins this year and garner a lot of respect from around the league.  The cheer squads were incredable with both the cheering and the great half time routines.  The children worked hard all season and as President of our team I could not be prouder of the program everone has worked hard to establish.

Week 1

What a beggining to the 2007 season!  The Ceres Seahawks traveled to our new home at the Corral and were welcomed in Cen-Cal fashion.

Rookie Report:

This level is non-competitve and no score is kept.  Overall our boys looksed pretty darn good against a very good Ceres team.  Dickson ran the ball in for a couple of TD's once the offense got going and the defense did a good job of keeping Ceres guessing.

Pee-Wee

Stampede 27  Ceres 6

The Pee-Wee Stampede exceeded its win total and points total for all of 2006 in just the 1st game of 2007.  A big congrats to all of the boys for working so hard and proving they can play in this league.  The offense was lead by Austin Lawerence who scored 3 td's, 2 on runs of more than 80 yards.  Brandon Davis added another rushing TD for the Stampede as the team rolled up over 460 yards on the ground.  The defense did not give up any points (the only Ceres points came on a fumble recovery for a TD).   The D was lead by Niko Ruiz, Zac Cordoza, Brandon Davis, & Aaron Muncy.  Overall this was a great team effort.

JV

Stampede 38 Ceres 0

This one was over quick.  The Stampede was up 12 - 0 after settling down after a few first quarter turnovers.  The defense was a total team effort with almost every player hitting the field for a D that gave up only 2 1st downs and pulled off the shutout.  THe offense was fueled by hard running from several backs.  Colton "Rodeo" Farquer had 2 interceptions one of which he took all the way for a TD.  Jake "Pinball" Jacobson rambled in for the final TD by leaping past Ceres defenders to hit pay dirt.  Marcuss Northcutt had 3 rushing TD's on the day.  Nik Ryan recovered a fumlbe in the end zone for a saftey after Joe Hamilton blew up the play in the backfield.

 Varsity

Stampede 6  Ceres 18

It looked real good in the 1st half where the Stampede dominated both sides of the ball and went into half up 6-0.  The Seahawks proved persistent and eventually were able to outlast the Stampede in what was a hard fought game.

Sunday, September 2
Week 2

The Stampede traveled to Merced to take on the Bears in week 2 and had another taste of success.  The Stampede took 2 out 3 from the Bears and have now equalled the teams win total from all of 2007.

Rookie Report

The Rookies looked better than ever and scored 3 times to prove it.  Panlillo, Stegman-Bevill, and Toledo each took in a score for the lil Stampede.  The defense was impressive keeping the Bears in check all game long.

Pee-Wee

Stampede 6 Bears 0

The defense again gave up ZERO points this week.  The D was lead by Elias Casas, Brandon Davis and Frank Trent who all had some great bone crushing hits on the way to shutting out the Bears.  The O was lead by Darius Nelsons 35 yard TD run and the hard running up the gut of Frank Trent.  If it had not been for numerous self inflicted wounds this score would have been much worse.

JV

Stampede 40  Bears 26

The Stampede was lead by the excellent O line play of Adam Lahey, Bastian Jiminez, Colton Farquer, Hunter Willet, Wes Bevill, and Logan Baker.  The big guys up front opened up big holes all day long for the JV backs.  The D played good but gave up a few big plays to the Bears backs.  Overall the JV is off to a great start winning it 1st two games and scoring more points in 2 games than it scored in 11 games last year.

Varsity

Stampede 22 Bears 26

A heartbreaking loss for the Varisty Stampede.  After a shakey 1st quarter the Stampede played a great game.  A few breaks that did not go their way and some questionable calls by the men in stripes really set this one back.   The Stampede turned the ball over on downs with less than a minute to go inside the 25 yard line looking for the go ahead score.

Sunday, September 9
Week 3

Rookie Report

We are waiting for the highlights from the Rookie staff, will update soon

Pee-Wee

Stampede 14  Broncos 22

The Stampede Pee-Wee's suffered their 1st loss of the year this weekend but proved they will never give up.  After spotting the Broncos a 16 point half time lead the Stampede came out ready to play in the 2nd half.  They scored 2 TD's and were driving for a 3rd gametying TD in the 4th but turned the ball over on downs as time was running out.

JV

Stampede 28  Broncos 42

The JV also spotted the Broncos a quick 2 scores just minutes into the game but made a game of it and held on strong to the end.  It is my opinion that this Bronco team will be representing their conference in the Superbowl and will likely sweep their division by big scores.  The team is fast and well coached, my hat is off to Caoch Guy, his staff, and palyers on a terrific show this past Saturday.  I am also very proud that dispite the fact we were down by 3 TD's early in the 2nd quarter that the Stampede never quit and had a shot in the 4th quarter to pull even but just couldnt quite shut down the Bronco O.

Varsity

Stampede 26  Broncos 46

The Broncos Varsity also put up early points.  Number 32 for the Broncos was blazing fast and if he hits the corner their was no way to stop him.  I am waiting for more details on this game from the Varsity staff.

Monday, September 17
Week 4

Rookie Report

The Rookies played another great game.  For the 1st time this season Rookie D was able to keep the other team from scoring.  The Rookies also managed to put 1 TD in the endzone on the day.  Waiting furthe details from the Rookie staff

Pee-Wee

Stampede 13  Jaguars 12

This was a great game!  The Stampede took the lead in the 2nd quarter on a 68 yard run by Austin Lawrence.  He ran off left tackle, broke to the outside where he was met by 5 Jagaur defenders along the sideline.  Somehow Lawrence was able to come out of that pile up and race the remaining 50 yards for the score.  The 2nd half saw the Jaguars score twice before the Stampede was able to get the O going.  Caoch Derek said his O-line had a great day and included Niko Ruiz, Colin Strauser, Tanner Lasiter, Nolen Valenzuela, Wyatt Dobbins, and Cedric Vierra.  On defense CJ Backaman made two key interceptions.  Justin Hoover & Zac Cordoza also contributed several nice tackles.  The game winning points came on the extra point run by Darus Nelson with 3 minutes to go.

JV

Stampede 46 Jaguars 12

This one was over early as the Stampede rolled to a 40-6 half time lead as the coaches emptied the bench early in the 2nd quarter.  Eddie Machado had several nice runs and racked up a lot of yards on the day.  Ronnie Stevens, Jake Jacobson, and Marcus Northcutt all contributed to a ground attack that the Jaguars could not stop.  The defense played great with almost every member of the Stampede getting a chance to make plays.

Varsity

Stampede 7 Jaguars 28

After spotting the Jaguars a quick 22 points in the 1st quarter the Stampede settled down and played a great game.  Cody Cole had several nice runs including the lone TD for the Stampede.  Marcus Hernandez was once again a stand out on O & D.  The Jaguars had a lot of weapons and were a well coached team so it was great to see our Varsity play with them all night long.

Monday, September 24
Week 5

Rookie Report

The boys had a great time playing in the rain and mud in Merced this weekend.  What 7 or 8 year old would not love the chance to roll around and get dirty and you not only do not get in trouble but are given a pat on the back????  The mud resulted in a few early fumbles but eventually the Rookies were able to get going.  Michael Everett & CJ Toledo both had some nice runs.  The D held strong with good tackling from Kizer Vandeveer and a fumble recovery by Zachary Campbell.  Overall the Rookie had a strong showing against the Cougars.

Pee-Wee

Stampede 7 Cougars 0 (OT)

The 3rd shutout in five games for our Pee-Wee squad!  The defense was led by Justin Hoover along with Austin Lawrence, Darus Nelson, and Brandon Davis who combined for a game saving tackle at the 1 yard line in the OT.  On offense the Stampede was led by the hard nose running of Frank Trent who carried 15 times for 65 yards.  Austin Lawrence scored the game winner on 4th down and 4 in the OT.

 J.V.

Stampede 33 Cougars 8

After a slow start the Stampede rolled over the previously undedeated Cougars.  The Stampede victory snapped a 31 game win streak by the Cougar JV dating back to the 2005 season.  Ronnie "Sunshine" Stevens hit Nik Ryan on a long pass for one of the big scores.  Most of the day you could see the Stampede backs pounding the middle of the Cougar defense.

Varsity

Stampede 16 Cougars 36

Waiting for report from Varsity staff.

WEEK 6

Rookie Report

Coach Rob reported that he was very proud of the effort our Rookies put out against the Thunder.  The team work on defense this week kept a very strong and they held a fast Thunder team to just 2 td's.  The standouts on defense were Brandon Vierra, Brandon Panlilio, Tristen Stegman-Bevill, Brandon McAnally, Thomas Torres, and Jacon Tietjen.  On offense Jace Hendrix played very well on the line shutting down the right side of the D line.  Michael Everett and Mark Dickson had good days running the ball.

The Thunder Rolled into the Corral and shutout all 3 team this week.  Our hats are off to a talented and well coached Thunder team and we wish them luck as they roll towards the playoffs.

Pee-Wee

Stampede 0  Thunder 42

JV

Stampede 0 Thunder 30

Although the JV kept it to 8-0 through 3 quarters they found out you can not turn the ball over 8 times against a good team and hope to win.  The Thunder broke through a good Stampede defense and turned the final 2 turnovers into 4th quarter TD's and then scored their final TD after a Stampede drive stalled inside the 15 yard line after driving all the way from the 10!  A disappointing day for the JV but a good lesson as they continue to make a push for a deep playoff run.

Varsity

Stampede 0 Thunder 32

Same story as above, a lot of tunrovers turned a close 1 score game into a blowout.  These guys really impressed the Thunder coaching staff and continue to improve each week.  Hold onto the ball will be the lesson this week in the Varsity practice as well.

WEEK 7

Rookie Report

Waiting for report for Rookie staff...

Pee-Wee

Stampede 19 Packers 0

The Pee-Wees ran their record to 5-2 (3-1 conference) by recording their 4th shutout of the season.  The D was lead by the hitting and tackling of Broderick Medrano who had the Packer QB thinking twice about getting back under center each play.  Nolan Valenzuela also played a huge role from his DE spot shutting down the Packers.  On offense the coaching staff rolled out the back up O-line for the entire 2nd half and they opened holes for the final 2 TD's.  The line was lead by Wyatt Dobbins, Manuel Gibbons, Alex Pena, Tyler Van Meter, & Michael Winders.  Ausitn Lawrence had 2 TD runs including a 7-0 yarder and QB Braden Davenport punched one in from 4 yards out as well.

J.V.

Stampede 30 Packers 0

Bastian Jiminez got the day going in fine fashion when he took his 1st interception of the year to the house for a TD!  He would later add a 2nd interception and played a great game on D with several tackles for losses.  The pass happy Packers who were also thwarted by 2 interceptions for Nick Garza and tremendous pass defense from the entire secondary.  Just a few minutes after the 1st score the Stampede O got going with a pass from Ronnie Stevens to a wide open Nik Ryan for another TD to put the Stampede up 16-0.  The day belonged to the Stampede despite another day with several tunrovers.  The Stampede also had to battle on over enthusiastic referee crew who felt it was their job to keep the Packers in the game.  The Stampede racked up close to 200 yards in penalities.  In the 2nd half the D kept shuttin down the Packers and we were treated to a Eddie Machado TD run along with anothe score by Nik Ryan, this time a long run off left tackle.  Jake "Pinball" Jacobson closed out the day thrilling the crowd with his never say die running style! The win takes the Stampede record to 5-2 (3-1 confernece) and sets up a show down for 1st place with the Turlock Vikings (6-1 overall, 4-0 conference) at the Corral on October 13th.

Vikings Sweep Stampede

Rookie Reports

Waiting on staff update

Pee-Wee

Stampede 6 Vikings 24

JV

Stampede 14 Vikings 16

What a game!  This was a match up of 2 very similar teams and one that most coaches and fans around the league thought would be over by half time.  The Stampede played one of their best games of the year grinding out yards on offense using all 4 RB very effectively.  Marcus Northcutt was the work horse pouonding the middle of the Viking defense the entire game.  A few mistakes hurt the Stampede chances but that take nothing away from the great game the Vikings played.  This is a match up everyone would love to see again in the playoffs!  The JV staff could not have been prouder of the way these boys played.  Next up is another showdown, this time with the undefesated Salida Steelers.

Stampede Take 2 of 3 From Salida!

Rookie Report

Waiting for report from Rookie staff...

Pee-Wee

Stampede 18 Steelers 27

JV

Stampede 26 Steelers 7

The JV Stampede did it ag  ain.  This time beating the previously undefeated Salida Steelers 26 - 7!  The defense played a great game keeping Salida out of the endzone until less than 3 minutes to go in the game.  THe defense was lead by the excellent play of Nik Garza, Logan Baker, Adam Lahey, Bastian Jiminez, Max Stevens, Nik Ryan, Marcus Northcutt, Tanner Kent, and Eddie Machado.  On offense the Stamepde o-line dominated a very agressive Steeler defense.  The only downer on the day was when Salida's #3 was taken from the field by ambulance after hard hit.  Our prayers got out to him and his family.

Varsity

Stampede 12 Steelers 0

The Varsity Stampede finally got that elusive 1st win!!!!  After a rought 1st 8 weeks these boys put together to beat a heavily favored Steeler team who came into the game with a 4-4 record.  Cody Cole punished the Steeler defense with bruising runs up the middle which culminated in his 10 yard TD run where he was hit by nearly every Steeler on the field.  Marcus Hernandez also got in on the scoring with a nice TD run.  It was a great site to see these boys get to celebrate after the game, it reminds you how much the kids really love the game.

WEEK 10

Stampede sweeps Gustine

For the 1st time in the history of the Stampede all 3 teams won on the same day.  Although we feel for the Redskins players suffering through their 1st season it felt really good to finally have everyone celebrate on the same day.  It was amazing tome to watch the Redksins suffer to 0-10 starts at all levels and never quit during any of the games on Saturday.  That team has a lot of heart and pride and I am sure they will taste success in the future (just not against Oakdale).  We wish the Redskins good luck against the Wildcats next weekend.  As a game recap at all levels--we scored a lot and everyone played a lot!

Rookies

The Rookies ended their season with a fine performance against the Sabercats.  The defense played its best game in about a month containing the speedy Sabercat backs and keeping them away from the endzone.  They even had a nice goal line stand, similiar to last years for those that remember.  Everett, Tietjen, and Toledo carried the ball and everyone who saw the game knows that thw future of Stampede football is looking good.  The coaching staff lead by Rob Jackson did a great job teaching the kids how to play the game.

Playoff Round I

The Stampede took 2 out 3 in our first ever appearance in the leagues second season.  All 3 teams played well.

Pee-Wee

Stampede 38 Hilmar 6

The Pee-Wees put it all together and smashed the Packers for a 1st round win.  We have been teasing the coaching staff that it is ok to win by more than one score and I guess it really has sunken in. This team is on a roll.  The tone of the game was set by the Pee-Wee defense when Nolan Valenzuela laid a great hit on the Packer running back on the very first play from scrimmage.  He was not happy with that so on the 3rd play he laid out the Packer QB.  From there the rout was on!  The defense played great with Frank Trent, Valenzuela, and Aaron Muncy leading the way.  On offense Braden Davenport and Gregory Wikoff split time at QB with both doing a great job of leading their team. Darus Nelson and Justin Hoover pounded it out on the ground.  A true team effort by this team.

JV

Stampede 18 Hilmar 8

The JV squad was happy to get off the field with a win after fumbling the ball 7 times.  The turnovers killed several drives and kept the scrappy Packer team in the game the entire night.  Nick Garza intercepted a late pass and returned it 35 yards to seal the victory for the JV squad.

Varsity

Stampede 6 Manteca 25

In my opinion this was the best game our varsity played all year.   They gave the 10-1 Jaguars all they could handle and went into the half tied at 6-6.  Nick Beavers intercepted a passin the endzone to end the first half and keep our boys in the game.  In the 2nd half one big play and couple of late TD's sealed our fate.  The Jaguars coaches and fans were amazed at the hard fought game they saw after an early season drubbing of the Varsity Stampede.  Manteca coach Wayne congratulated the Stampede on the hardest fought game of the year.

Playoffs Round II

The season was going to end sometime but I do not think the Pee-Wee and JV teams were quite ready.

The Buhach Thunder Pee-Wee and JV teams were able to defeat the Stampede on Saturday November 17th to end playoff run for both teams

Pee-Wee

Stampede 6 Thunder 24

JV

Stampede 6 Thunder 22

The games were both hard fought and played well by all teams.  After both games the teams met at midfield for the coaches to speak to the combined teams and offer a prayer.  It was truly inspirational to watch the team hug and shake hands again after the prayer without any adult asking them to do so.  The crowd for teams was loud and it was one of the best days of youth football I have ever seen.
