Listed below are some frequently asked questions.  Please check back as we will update frequently.  If you don't see what you are looking for, please feel free to email us at: ovballclub@comcast.net

NEW: Why is an AAU card required for tryouts on 11/7?

OVC must have approved insurance in order to use school facilities.  In order to participate, you will be required to be registered with AAU for the 11/7 date..  AAU is $12 for the year, so you won't have to pay this fee again, including if you play on an AAU team for another club or even for another sport.  NCVA is $8 for a one day tryout pass (included in the 11/15 tryout fee) or $50 for the season.  Since OVC can not accept every player that tries out for our program, we register everyone for 1 day passes and then the $50 yearly fee is included in the club costs for NCVA.  Our 16-2 team is being included in the NCVA tryout date as players may originally be trying out for one of our NCVA teams.  They do not require an AAU card prior to tryouts, but once they make the team, they will need to register online for it and bring it to club registration night.

Why did OVC shorten the payment plan from prior years?

OVC must pay out tournament entry fees and purchase equipment early on in the season, therefore, we must have the funds to do so sooner rather than later.  Our hope is that this will also allow parents to budget easier for the travel involved.  Most of our Power teams will be traveling to Qualifiers in March and all OVC teams will be traveling to Reno in April.  These tournaments will require hotel stays in areas that can charge anywhere from $100-$170 per night along with gas/airfare and good required during the events.  Therefore, the OVC Board implemented a plan to have all OVC payments paid by February.

Why did OVC change the tournament schedule from prior years?

Each year we have found it increasingly difficult to field full rosters for events in June due to summer school and family vacations which take priority in our player’s lives.   Therefore, our goal is to have all teams finish “regular club season” play by the end of May.  There is a possibility that coaches may have “in club tryouts” for players interested in forming a team to play at California Finals in June.  If this happens, there will be additional fees involved for those selected to participate.

Will OVC once again be participating in any AAU events?

Yes, OVC will be sending most teams to at least 1 AAU event for the 2010 season.  Most of our Area teams will be participating in ONLY AAU events.

NEW: Has the uniform package changed for 2010?

Yes.  This year we will have a different package for our Power and Area teams.  The packages are as follows: POWER TEAMS: 2 Jerseys (1 black, 1 red), 1 pair of spandex, 2 pairs of socks (1 white, 1 black), 1 practice t-shirt (grey), 1 sweatshirt with name & # (grey), 1 sweatpants (black) 1 waterbottle AREA TEAMS: 1 Jersey (black), 1 pair of spandex, 2 pairs of socks (1 white, 1 black), 1 practice t-shirt (grey), 1 sweatshirt with name & # (grey), 1 sweatpants (black), 1 water bottle.  Players are responsible for providing personal equipment: shoes, kneepads, whistles, water bottles, etc.

NEW: Will OVC jerseys look the same as prior years?

No.  Every player in the club will receive one black jersey.  This year all jerseys will be MIZUNO as we did not get positive feedback on the Aasic jerseys from the 2009 season. For 2010, jerseys will NOT have names on the back.  This is a cost savings measure. It is difficult from a data entry standpoint and harder for our printer to manage the order when we include names.

UPDATED: What do your fees include?
OVC club fees include NCVA registration for players/team/coaches, tournament entry fees, uniforms, equipment, pictures, end of the year picnic, coach fees, and travel expenses for your coach.  As much as possible is included so you won’t have to expect any additional costs except your own travel. For 2010, players will need to complete their own AAU registration online ($12) and bring their AAU card with them to club registration and/or tryouts.

How many teams will you have this year?
OVC hopes to field teams at the following age levels:
NCVA Power –  15, 16,  18   Area – 12, 13/14, 15/16
The number of teams depends on the number of interested players at each age level and whether or not we have qualified coaches and practice facilities available.  We will not field any more than 9 teams for 2010.

How many players do you carry on a team?
OVC does not require a specific number of players per team.  Our goal is to only carry 10 players per team, however, depending on skill level, teams may carry as few as 9 players or as many as 12.

What are the club fees for 2010?
Please check out our OVC Schedule and Fees page which details the costs involved for each team.

Which tournaments will the teams be participating in this year?
Please see the attachment with the schedule of events on the OVC Schedule and Fees page.

Where do your teams practice?
OVC utilizes elementary and jr. high schools in the Citrus Heights/Orangevale area.  Each team will receive a set practice schedule (ex: M/W or T/TH from 5-7 or 7-9) at the beginning of the season.  There may be a few occasions when the set facility is not available. In those instances, our Facilities Manager will work with the coach for an alternate practice location for that week.  OVC schedules 2 practices each week for each team.  By utilizing the schools, we are able to keep our costs down by not having to rent court time from a large facility.  If the school schedules an event, in many cases we will not be able to schedule a make up practice due to a limited number of facilities.

When do practices begin?
Our Area Teams will begin practices the first week in January when schools are back in session.  Our Power Teams may begin in early December depending on gym availability.

How are teams selected?
Obviously skill is a major determining factor. However, many times the only factor that separates one player from nine others with equal ability is their attitude on the court and desire to be a part of our program. We will make our best effort to find a place for every person to play.

Can my daughter attend both sessions (16/15 and 14/13) if she wants to be considered for more than one team?
Yes!  At check in you will be asked which teams she would like to be considered for.  We do ask that you stay for both sessions if you are available as the coaches selecting teams will generally only be “observing” during their session.  If the sessions are on DIFFERENT weekends (ex: 14's on 11/7 and 15's on 11/15), you will need to pay for AAU registration and NCVA registration in order to participate.

What information will be discussed at the mandatory parent meeting?
OVC will be going over the tryout selection process, introducing the coaches, discussing our payment schedule and tournament schedule and having a question/answer period for parents.  This is your opportunity to learn about our organization to make sure OVC is the right fit for your daughter and your family.  We will discuss our mission statement and expectations for the 2010 season.

If offered a position on a team, when must a player commit?
No club in Northern California  that is running NCVA can require you to commit to a team until after 11/16 at 6:00PM or for 48 hours after being offered a position on a team for tryouts occurring after 11/15.  OVC will be announcing the teams at the conclusion of tryouts and will look to seek feedback from all players at that time.  If you know at that time that OVC is not the right club for you, we ask that you let us know so an alternate can be chosen. OVC will continue our policy of encouraging players to check out other clubs before making any commitment to our organization.   Signed letters of commitment and deposits of $500 will be required at registration, which will not occur until 11/16.

Does everyone have to try out for a team?
All spots on each roster are OPEN.  No one is guaranteed a spot on any team.  If you are unable to make it to either of our tryout dates, please contact us ASAP so we can see if other arrangements can be made:  ovballclub@comcast.net

Does OVC accept credit card payments?

In our effort to keep costs to a minimum, OVC does NOT currently accept credit card payments.  At this time, only check/cash is accepted for payment.
