OU Gets a Pair of Wins Over the Weekend

OU-Crimson v. ECU

OU soccer kicked off its season on Saturday vs. East Central University at 1:00 on the OU Men's soccer Field in Norman. The Sooners started off quickly in the first half with a goal scored by Braden McCaleb off of a cross from Nathan Barry. OU dominated the run of play for the rest of the half and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. The second half opened with more good play from the Sooners, but they struggled finding the back of the net as defenders Kyle Crockett and John Krutty hit shots off the crossbar. Midway through the half, Taylor Wilson fueled the OU attack with a run down the wing and a left-footed strike that beat the keeper to the near post. Erin Allen and OU soccer newcomer Jeff Sankeu finished the game with a pair of great goals from distance to give OU a 4-0 win. Keeper Alex Parker earned the shutout behind a back line that featured Shawn Carney, Kyle Crockett, John Krutty, and new pickup Jacob Romig, with keeper David Nelson also seeing some time in goal.

OU-White v. SWOSU

Immediately following the Sooners' game against ECU, OU's White squad took on SWOSU in their first game of the season. OU came out to a lightning start with a goal scored by Caleb Prentice off of a cross from Nick Burdick. This goal was quickly followed by one from Sage Johnson in his first game as a Sooner and one from Marcin Rutkowski on a wonderful individual effort. OU played well throughout the entire contest; they conceded only one goal while Duong Than, Mustafa Qader, Nick Burdick, and newcomer Mario Penate each tallied goals giving the Sooners a 7-1 victory. Keeper Nick "Nancy" Nance played the whole game in goal behind a back line rotation of Nick Dalheim, Will Estel, Drew Donica and Zak Cotner.

Both OU teams play again on Sunday, September 18: OU-Crimson plays at the University of Tulsa and OU-White goes to Fayetteville to take on a strong University of Arkansas squad.
