Top 10 Items to Know About the OTM Recreational League!
1. The league plans / hopes to have four divisions based on grade with some age and weight restrictions. Last year we had 3 divisions. The 3rd and 4th graders were combined together and the 5th and 6th graders each had their own division. We expect that growth will allow us to move to each grade playing in their own division but some grades may be combined depending on numbers in the program. The following is the planned divisions:
Freshman - 3rd Grade / may be required to play on line if over 85lbs
Sophmore - 4th grade / may be required to play on line if over 90lbs
Junior - 5th Grade / may be required to play on line if over 100lbs
Senior - 6th Grade / may be required to play on line if over 110lbs
*Players that exceed the above weights will be ineligible receivers and cannot run the ball from scrimmage. On defense, they must play on the interior line.
NOTE: 1st and 2nd graders have a place to play. At this age, it's all developmental / recreational and costly to maintain 2 programs. Register your son at http://eteamz.active.com/hooveryfl.
2. Each division will play standard 11 on 11 football.
3. Rosters will consist of no more than 20 players and each player must have a starting position on the team. Each player must play no less than 50 percent of the game. Coaches will be asked to take other steps to maximize the participation of the less skilled players by fairly distributing playing time.
4. Teams will be formed after player evaluations. All players will be required to participate in the player evaluations, no exception.
5. Each player will be issued a helmet prior at the start of practice and team jerseys will be provided by the league prior to the first game.
6. Games are governed by the official football rules of the Alabama State High School Athletic Association with the exception of specific rules designed to assist and protect youth players.
7. The League will establish a schedule that will consist of at least (6) regular season games for each team in each division.
8. At the conclusion of the regular season, there will a play-off in a format to be determined by league officials.
9. Games will be played on weeknights and Saturdays. Rained out games will be played at the time and place scheduled as soon as possible. Although this schedule is subject to change, the general idea is as follows. Tuesday games practice Monday, Thursday games practice Tuesday. Saturday games practice Thursday. All teams will have scheduled practice times on Sunday. Every team should could possibly play 3 games on Saturday, this depends on facility availability and the number of teams in the league.
10. Practice will start in early August. A teams week of practice cannot be more than 5 hours per week prior to the first game. When the game season starts, a team may have only 2 contacts per week during the school nights. For example, if a team has a week night game, they may practice one other school night during that week.
