OSW Football 2012 Season - Kickoff BBQ

OSW Football is holding its 2012 season kickoff barbeque picnic on Sunday, August 12, from 12:30 to 3 pm at Fireman's Field in Old Saybrook (across the street from Pasta Vita). Burgers, hot dogs, and beverages will be provided by the OSW Touchdown Club.

All players and their parents are encouraged to attend. Coach Bagos will give the players details on the conditioning week coming up later in the month. The Touchdown Club will be getting contact information from parents, selling OSW football apparel, and soliciting shout-outs from parents and family members for the 2012 printed OSW Football program.

If you have any questions, call Mike Urban at (860) 388-4467 or email him at m1urban@comcast.net.

See you at the picnic. GO OSW!

Labor Day Practice and BBQ

The team will be holding a practice on Monday, September 5 (Labor Day), at OSHS from 9 to 11 am.

A team barbecue with burgers and hot dogs will follow at the end of the practice, courtesy of the OSW Touchdown Club. The barbecue will also be at the high school. (The cookout is for OSW players only. It's an opportunity for the players to bond and to have some fun together. Parents should plan on picking up their players at around noon.)

See you there!

OSW Returns to Practice!

A Note from Coach Bagos:

I hope all is well with the OSW family! I know these past few days have been rough. If anyone needs anything, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Some good news: the board has approved us to return to practice. We practiced today from 3:45 to 6 pm, and we'll do the same on Thursday and Friday. Saturday practice will be 9 to 11 am.

If you have a helmet, please bring it to the practices.

Thank you,

Coach Bagos

A Message from Coach Bagos

All Players and Parents:

The summer is coming to an end, so that means football is near!!!!  I'm ready to get at it, and I hope you are, too!  As we approach the upcoming season, I would like to inform you of important dates and times for conditioning week and practices:

Conditioning week begins Monday, August 22, from 5 to 7 pm, on the practice football field behind Old Saybrook High School.  Players should wear t-shirts, athletic shorts, and cleats.  Players who do not have an updated physical form will NOT be allowed to participate.  No exceptions!!  It is advised that all players hydrate throughout the day.

There will be a practice from 9 am to noon Saturday, August 27.  That practice will be in full gear.  The following week, August 29 through Sept 2, practice will be at the normal times of 3:30 to 5:45 pm.  Saturdays we will practice 9 am to noon.

Incoming freshmen will have impact testing at 4 pm before conditioning on Wednesday, August 24.  Also, incoming freshmen and new players must purchase a girdle before contact begins on August 27.

We have 13 days left....It is highly recommended that all players attend the last few weightlifting sessions (upperclassmen only) and running sessions.  Those who have not participated on a regular basis will struggle during the first week.  Coaches know who's been working and who has not!  Remember--if you want to be respected in the league, you have to earn it! And it starts by putting in the necessary time in the weight room and during the running sessions.

Also, I will be addressing the team this Thursday, August 11, at 9 am in the weight room.

Thank You,
Coach Bagos

Tuesday, July 12
OSW Football Cleats for Sale July 21

Cleats are $60 per pair and are on a first-come, first-served basis. At this time, cash is the only acceptable form of payment.

Any questions, contact Coach Bagos.

OSW All-Conference Players

The following OSW players have received 2010 All-Conference honors:

Brendan Coan / Offensive Tackle

Connor Eastman / Utility Player

Dane Pallotto / Running Back

Max Nielsen / Place Kicker

The following players received All-Conference Honorable Mentions:

Jared Arcari / Offensive Guard

Ken Dower Jr. / Tight End

Nick Long / Center

I am very proud of all our players who made the list. For a team that ended the season with a 4-6 record, to place four first-team all-conference players says a lot about our program.

I would like to thank all my coaches for their hard work with our players this season. Let's keep coaching them up!

--Coach Bruce Buchla

New Head Coach Rudy Bagos: A Brief Biography

Rudy Bagos has a long and distinguished career in youth football, both as a player and as a coach.

Rudy played football for Ledyard High School and was the quarterback on the team when Ledyard won its first state championship in 1986. He also played two years of semipro football with the New England Crusaders.

Bagos went to Eastern Connecticut State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education. He followed his undergaduate studies with a master's of science in school health at Southern Connecticut State University and a master's of arts in coaching at Ball State University.

For the past twelve years, Rudy has been a health and physical educator at East Lyme High School. During eleven of his years at East Lyme, he has served as an assistant coach for the varsity football team and as head coach for the freshman team. East Lyme won a state football championship in 2003 and was runner-up in 2004, 2005, and 2009. He has also served as East Lyme's head golf coach for the past six years.

Rudy's interests include golf, the Red Sox, and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoys spending time with his family--his parents still reside in Ledyard, and his sister and her family live in Salem.

Rudy currently lives in Groton and will be getting married to his fiancee, Amanda Timmerman, in June.
