Sharks Runner Up at Hobgood Tournament
The Sharks had clear, blue skies to start Fathers’ Day and Day #2 at the Hobgood Showdown. The morning game, and final game of pool play, found the Sharks playing the Hobgood Storm. The Sharks’ bats came out thundering! The Sharks pounded the ball with doubles and triples to get them out to an early 7-0 lead after the first inning. Kyle Reichert and Matthew Shaw each had in the park Homeruns!! Defensively, the boys continued to play “Shark Ball” by holding the Storm to no runs through the first 4 innings of play. Defensive highlights included: a great center field stop by Blake Evans with a quick relay to Braedon Bensely at second base for the first out of the game, a busy Kyle Reichert at short stop with relays to first and second base for outs, a nice touch on a toss from Matthew Shaw at pitcher’s to Zachary Elmy at first for an out, a third inning double play from Aaron Bensley on a catch in center field with a fast throw to first to catch a runner who left too early, a strong effort from Jarrett Guest at short stop for two outs in the top of the 4th inning and a great throw from L field by Brett Wood to Cameron Anglin at home to stop a runner from crossing the plate. The Sharks closed pool play action with a decisive 13-4 victory over the Storm. The Sharks returned to the field Sunday evening to meet the SCRA Eagles. The Sharks had their hands full. The Eagles’ played tough ball holding the Sharks to just 3 runs through the first 3 innings while taking an early lead with 8 runs after the third inning. The Sharks were able to narrow the gap and take a slight lead in the bottom of the 4th by scoring 6 runs to finish the inning 9-8. The Eagles weren’t done yet and by the middle of the 6th inning the Eagles had regained the lead 12-9. The Sharks final at bat brought the fans to their feet as the bats fired up and the Sharks were able to bring in the winning run – ending the game 13-12 and sending the Sharks on to the Championship game. Tough ball!! After a brief 15-20 minute break, the Sharks returned to the field to take on the Canton Stingers. Despite an early Shark lead, 3-2 after two innings, the Stingers prevailed and were able to hold the Sharks to just 3 runs while scoring 11 of their own. The Sharks played tough ball and finished second in the tournament. A great weekend Sharks!! Looking good for the District Tournament which Oregon Park will host beginning Friday, June 20th! We’ve got a team that’s hotter than HOT!! How hot?? Grand slams and Homeruns too! Let’s see what the Sharks will do!!!
