Sharks Finish 3rd in Dizzy Dean World Series!!
7/30/09---The Sharks first game of the day had them facing off against the Alabama State champions (Northport Nationals). The bats started slow, but defense ruled the day as they held on to beat the Nationals 4-3. The second game of the day had them facing the Florida State champions (Pensacola Bill Bond). Bill Bond had been in the loser bracket since the first round, but had been sending opponents home at a furious pace. The Pensacola team had just sent the OP Titans home. The Sharks won the game 10-4 to advance to the play in game vs. Sandy Plains. The tanks were running on empty and the weather continued to be a damper playing on wet fields. The Sharks couldn't pull out the 3rd win of the day and fell to the Cougars 10-7.
The Parents and Coaches couldn't be more proud of these 12 exceptional players. Way to go boys!! 
7/28/09 ---Thanks for checking the Sharks Weather Hotline. IT'S RAINING IN SOUTHAVEN!!
After two impressive wins(18-3 & 15-4) in pool play on Saturday to start the World Series,the Sharks third pool game scheduled for Sunday was canceled due to rain. Play resumed on Monday with the Sharks wrapping up pool play on Monday morning with a 22-0 win(facing only 10 batters in three innings) making them the 7th seed entering bracket play. Bracket play started at 3:00 on Monday with the Sharks facing the Boyton Generals for the first time this season. The Sharks defense was stellar in the 15-0 win. The second bracket game didn't start until 10:00 that evening making it the third game of a very long day. The Sharks faced the Tennessee State runner-up North Bradley Pirates. Once again, the Sharks played great defense ending the game quickly with a 10-2 win. The Pirates would only have 3 baserunners on the night with two of them scoring on a long home run and the other erased on a slick double play turned by Jarrett, Zach E and Kyle. Then.....It started raining again!!!. NO GAMES PLAYED TODAY. Hopefully we will get started in the morning. Check the brackets for more information.

IT'S A SHARK 3-PEAT!

The Sharks looked to defend their district title, again facing friends and former teammates.  This time it was the Oregon Park Raptors, who advanced to the District Championship game with a big win over the Georgia Explosion.  The Sharks were the home team and quickly put down the Raptors in the 1st inning.  Jeff (pitcher), Kyle (short stop) and Braedon (2nd base) all made plays and threw to Mikade at 1st base for outs.  The Sharks were fired up and came out swinging.  Blake and Braedon both reached base, Kyle tripled bringing both of them in to score.  Jarrett, Matt and Mikade all singled, resulting in a 5-run inning for the Sharks. 

The Sharks defense would stand tall in the 2nd inning.  Brett made a catch in left field, short-stop Kyle flipped to Jarrett at 3rd base for an out and with the bases loaded, Mikade caught a fly ball at 1st base to end the inning.  The 2nd inning was big for the Sharks.  Blake started things off with a triple.  Hits from Braedon (RBI), Kyle, Jarrett (RBI), Jeff (RBI), Mikey (RBI) and a bases clearing hit from Matt (3 RBI’s) resulted in the maximum 7 runs and a big 12-0 lead for the Sharks.

The Raptors plated 1 run in the top of the 3rd, but great defense would again shut them down.  Brett made a nice running catch in left field.  Blake caught a fly ball at short-stop and alertly threw home to catch a runner trying to advance.  The Sharks added 2 runs to their lead to go up 14-1, with hits from Zach Stewart, Blake, Braedon (RBI) and Zach Elmy (RBI).   Holding the Raptors scoreless in the top of the 4th inning with defensive plays from Mikey (3rd base), Brett (left field) and Blake (short stop), the Sharks were able to put this one away in the bottom of the 4th.   Hits from Jeff, Mikey (triple, RBI), Matt, and a game winning line-drive from Mikade put the Sharks up 16-1.  SHARKS ARE DISTRICT 2 CHAMPIONS!  A GREAT NIGHT FOR OREGON PARK BASEBALL!

Sharks Win Opener at World Series in Southaven, MS

The Sharks took the field against the Grenada All-Stars to begin pool play in the 2009 Dizzy Dean World Series.  With near perfect defense and hard hitting, the Sharks won easily 18-3.  The Sharks were the home team in the contest and sat down the first 3 Grenada batters.  Kyle caught a pop-fly from short stop, then made a nice play on a grounder and threw to Elmy for out #2.  Braedon got out #3 with a grounder hit to him at 2nd base.  The Sharks came out swinging hard, forcing many errors from the Grenada defense.  Blake and Braedon both reached on deep fly balls to RC field and Matthew cleared the bases with a hard hit ball in the gap between short stop and 3rd base.  Kyle (RBI), Jarrett, Mikade, Mikey, Jeff (RBI), Zach Stewart (RBI) and Zach Elmy (2 RBI’s) contributed to the offensive beating and put up the maximum 7 runs for the Sharks in the 1st inning. 

Grenada hitters found a few holes in the defense in the 2nd inning.  The first batter struck out, Matthew stopped a one-hop line drive in left field and fired to Braedon at 2nd base for the 2nd out and Braedon stopped a ball up middle and stepped on 2nd base for out #3, but not before 3 runs scored and the Sharks lead was cut to 7-3.  The Sharks got the 3 runs back with singles from Matthew and Kyle, a double from Jarrett (RBI), and a triple from Mikade (2 RBI’s). 

The Sharks defense held Grenada scoreless in the top of the 3rd.  1st baseman Mikade caught a pop fly for the first out and short stop Kyle gloved 2 grounders, the last one a great play ranging far to his left, and threw to Mikade for the last outs of the inning.   The Sharks continued to pound the ball at the Grenada defense.  Jeff got things started with a single, Brett (RBI), Aaron (RBI), Blake (triple, RBI), Braedon (RBI), Matthew and Kyle (RBI) gave the Sharks a commanding 15-3 lead after 3 innings of play.

Brett charged up the Shark defense with a great running catch in left field.  Blake caught a long fly ball in LC field for out #2 and with runners on 1st and 2nd base, Jarrett stopped a ground ball and stepped on 3rd base for out #3.  The Sharks needed 3 runs to end the game.  Mikade led off with a single and reached 3rd on a few Grenada errors.  Mikey drove in Mikade with a single.  Brett singled, driving in a run and rounding the bases to 3rd, thanks again to a few Grenada blunders.  Aaron put a ball in play to score the final run the Sharks needed.  Sharks win!!
