2006 Orange Park Baseball Raiders
2 no hitters, 5 shutouts, beat Fernandina, great plays, memories. Tearful Stephen Dandridge Jersey retirement ceremony. A shutout win on Senior Recognition night. A stirring comeback with back-to-back jacks. JV's comeback from a 12-2 deficit to win 13-12. PA announcer Ryan Clarke booming out "R J DooooooVall". Effort, desire and hustle was never lacking on this team. For now it's time to reflect and think about what could have been. Time to look forward to next year will come after the Banquet. Best wishes and luck to all the Seniors, many have been in the program all 4 years. Thanks to the Coaching staff for all their hard work and dedication. To the players and the parents especially Rich and Diane Bilyk and Billy and Lollie Fehrs for supplying pictures and encouragement all year long. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. ~OPHS Baseball Raiders WebMaster Wednesday, May 17 2006 OPHS Baseball Raiders Awards Banquet

Stats are up-to date Tuesday, April 18 Conference and District Championship FAQ's
What is the meaning of tonights Conference Championship game and who are we playing? The conference was set up to offer more games to teams that have a hard time scheduling and also to provide rivalries aside from the district. The conference is divided into 2 divisions; West: OP, Middleburg, FI, Ridgeview, and Clay East: Bartram Trail, Menendez, St. Augustine, Nease, and Palatka. There is no tourney. The #1 seed on this side plays the #1 seed on that side and #2 plays #2 and so on. We are the 3rd seed on our half of the conference (5 wins - 5 losses) which means we play St. Augustine tonite because they are the 3rd seed on their side. What is the format for Districts and who are we playing and when? The district is really what matters in terms of post-season play. There is a district tourney at the end of the season and you are seeded on your record in district play throughout the regular season. The top 2 teams in the tourney advance to post season. So basically the conference is for bragging rights and the district is for advancing. For districts we are the 4 seed (2 wins - 6 losses) so we play the 5 seed which is Sandalwood on Monday at 7:00 (i think). The winner of our game plays the 1 seed which is Fletcher on Tuesday. Mandarin and Buccholz play each other because they are the 2 and 3 seed on Wednesday. Survivors of Tuesday and Wednesday play on Thursday for District Championship and also advance to post season. ~ Coach Johns

Some questions on this tournament: What is the format of this tourney? The tourney is pool play which means there are 2 different brackets. Who are all the teams in it? A: Orange Park, Fernandina Beach, and University Christian B: Gainesville High, Baker County, and Fleming Island What will happen on Saturday? If we win today we are in the championship game vs. the winner of the other bracket on Sat. at 5:00. If we lose today there is still an outside chance we could get in the championship if Fern. beats UC on Friday because everyone on our side would be 1-1. It would then go to a tie breaker which would probably be run differential. Either way we play on Sat., we are just not sure what time. Who won it last year? Last year there was no true winner because of weather. 2 teams won 2 games but they were unable to play a championship. ~Coach Johns Wednesday, March 22 Orange Park Raiders 3 - FBHS Pirates 0

Wind, strategy and a long-overdue swing were the dramatic ingredients of a seven-inning nail-biter at Fleming Island Friday afternoon. The wind: It had been blowing in from right-center field all afternoon, prompting both teams to play their right fielders shallow. The strategy: With two outs on the Golden Eagles in the seventh, Orange Park Coach Michael Johns called for an intentional walk to one batter and brought in a new pitcher so the Raiders could work on Fleming Island hitter Trey Strickland for the last out. The long-overdue swing: Strickland, ignoring the wind, the strategy and a personal batting slump, pulled the trigger on his left-handed swing, connected with a fastball and drove it straight into that right field breeze, just over the glove of a backpedaling Raiders' defender. The result: Golden Eagles 4, Raiders 3. Click on head-line to view the rest of Article in the Florida Times-Union Thursday, March 2 JV Raiders 13 - Golden Eagles 6
