2006 Raiders finish summer session 19 - 8 Raiders finish a successful summer session with a 19 and 8 overall record and a 12 and 5 "A" team record. Many "A" games played under the Connie Mack rules (9 innings etc.). Head Baseball Coach Michael Johns with assistants Fred Matricardi, Richard Eason, Charlie Graff, Martin Aftuck. Many thanks to Lindsey and Bert Geiger and all other parents and volunteers with concession-stand duties. Raiders played 27 games in 44 days in May, June and July 2006. Final Line: Won - 19 Loss - 8 Shutouts - 2 Runs Scored - 205 Runs Allowed - 117. Check Albums section for more pictures of present and future North East FHSAA Class 6A baseball stars. This team has 7 returning seniors: Jeff Abboud, Joey Sheppard, Billy McNeish, John Kennett, Matt Williamson, Rick Donovan, J.D Aut. A strong supporting cast of returning under-classman : Michael Bentley, Derek Davis, Chris Geiger, Brad Hall, Nick Vega, Tony Voiro, Kyle Russo. Providence Bomb Squad 5 - Raiders 2 Providence trailing 2-1 scores 4 runs in top of the 9th to steal a victory. Raiders couldn't come back in a very well played games, featuring 3 double-plays. Click on picture or headline to view album of pictures from this game. Monday, June 5 Raiders 2 - Panthers 1 Raiders go 9 innings and get a 2-1 victory. In the bottom of the 9th, Darin Chamberlain led off with a double, was sacrificed to 3rd by Chris Hnatusko. With Zack Voiro at the plate the Ridgeview pitcher threw a wild pitch to allow the winning run. Note: Schedule has changed, check Calendar for new game locations and times. Tuesday, June 6 Raider 4 - Senators 3 In first away game Raiders take a 4-3 decision versus the Senators. Wednesday, June 7 Raiders 9 - Panthers 8 In 10 innings the Raiders rally twice versus crosstown rival Ridgview Panthers. Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th, Nick Vega gets to 2nd base on an over throw to 1st by the short-stop. Darin Chamberlain then drives in pinch runner Jerry Hatch with a double, sending the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th trailing by 8-6, Zack Voiro leads off with a hot-shot base-hit to 3rd. Derek Davis on a 3-0 pitch crushes a triple in the left-center gap to get the score to 8-7. Freshman Jonathon Cassman hits the first pitch he sees for a foul-ball sacrifice fly to left field to tie the score at 8-8. Kyle Russo follows with the most exciting play in baseball. Kyle smashes a 2-2 pitch to the right center gap. The Ridgeview center-fielder makes a gallant effort but can't make a play. The ball goes over his head as Russo steams around 2nd base. The shortstop gets the relay and double-pumps on a 2 hopper to the plate. Russo scores the winning run on a "Walk-Off" inside the park home-run.
