Former player and referee for Oak Forest Soccer diagnosed with cancer
In July of 2009, a former OFPD soccer player and referee was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. Ms. Julia Janes and her family have been involved in the soccer program for many years. Julia was a referee for the games at Gaelic this year, and also played on the girls' Oak Forest High School soccer team. She is now going through chemo treatments to fight this thing. There will be a walk to fight Kids' Cancer on September 12. The walk is held at Lincoln Park Grove 13, and is called "Cure Search 2 Mile Walk to Conquer Kids' Cancer. The website is http://host.curesearch.org/goto/walkforjulia or call 78-301-5263. Keep Julia and her family in your prayers!

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE PICNIC?
So, what do you need to know about the Soccer Picnic? For one thing, it is Sunday, July 12 at 11:30 in Central Park. There will be tables reserved for each team. Bring a lawn chair if you want to be comfortable! There will be food for purchase from Ken & Dicks, Sno cones from the Oak Forest Stars travel soccer team, games, prizes, inflatable slides, tattoos, and a raffle table with some really great prizes. Representatives from the Chicago Fire will be on hand to give out tickets to the Oak Forest night on July 18th, and also to sign up for Soccer Camp, August 3-7. Trophies are passed out at 2:30, and the Coaches Vs. refs game will be held at Leonard Field at 3:30. A fun time for all -- Don't miss it!

Donations of equipment and trophies still being taken
Thanks to those who donated equipment, jerseys, and trophies to our cause in November. We have found Chicago Scores, a non-profit organization in Chicago, who uses soccer and poetry for an afterschool literacy and fitness program for kids. See our "Links" folder to find out how else you can help them out. If you still have clothing and gear to donate, bring them to the team meetings in March and we will get them to their program.

A special thanks to Nick Noble of the Chicago Fire for coming to our picnic and signing autographs! He plays the position of goalie, and is a fine role model for our kids.
