Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What equipment does my player need?

A: Players need a baseball or softball glove and baseball shoes or soccer shoes. We supply everything else. For T-Ball any type of tennis shoe is OK. For baseball majors, minors and coach-pitch levels metal cleats are not allowed. Metal cleats are not allowed at any level of softball.

Q: What days are the games and practices?

A: For T-ball we try to schedule all activities Monday thru Thursday. For other ages we try to schedule activities Monday thru Friday. Softball has some games on Saturdays. Because games have to be scheduled around field availability, games will occur on different days of the week from one week to the next.

Q: How many games and practices are there?

A: T-Ball has one game and one mandatory practice a week. Coach-Pitch has two games one week and one game and a mandatory practice the next week. Additional practices are at the coach's discretion. Minors play two games a week. Practices are at coach's discretion. Majors and Juniors play 2-3 games a week with practices at the coach's discretion.

Q: What time do games start?

A: Games usually start at 6:30 pm. Softball games start at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.

Q: How long do the games last?

A: T-ball games last 1 hr. Coach-pitch games last 1 ½ hrs. Minors games last 2 hrs. Majors and above have no time limit, but generally last 2-2 ½ hrs.

Q: When are games and practice schedules available?

A: Practice schedules are dictated by each team's manager. Game schedules are not usually availble until the end of April or first week of May. We have over 20 teams at 4 different levels trying to utilize 5 different fields at the Nunaka Valley complex. In addition we usually play inter-league games with neighboring leagues and are dependent on their scheduling restrictions. Schedules will be posted as they become available. Please be patient.

Q: Where are games played?

A: Our home games are played at Nunaka Valley ball fields at 5951 Craig Drive. We usually have some inter-league games with neighboring leagues in which case we would play some games at their fields.

Q: Does my child wear a uniform? If so, will it be provided?

A: Yes all players at all levels wear uniforms. The uniforms are provided by the league and consist of Jerseys, pants, socks, and caps. The players keep the uniforms after the season is over (except for specialty pants worn by softball).

Q: What is the mandatory “2 for 1” fundraiser?

A: The “2 for 1” fundraiser is a program where players sell discount cards to the general public to raise funds for the league. We collect $25 from each player at registration. The player will receive ten “2 for 1” cards to sell at $5 each. If the player sells all ten cards they will recoup their original $25 investment plus an additional $25 to help defray their registration costs. Any money collected from the sale of the cards is the players (parents) to keep since the league has already collected their share up front. Any cards not sold are yours to keep or use.

Q; What is the registration and fund raising used for?

A: League funds are used to pay for uniforms, bats, balls, catchers gear, umpire gear, bases, line chalk, mowing equipment, irrigation equipment, weed trimming equipment, hardware, paint,
maintenance, liability insurance, medical insurance, charter fees, printing, promotion, office supplies, and etc. In addition to registration fees we also receive much needed funds from many commercial sponsors.

Q: Can I play for Nunaka Valley Little League if I don’t live in the league boundaries?

A: No, Little League Regulations require that you must live within our league boundaries as illustrated on our league boundary map. There is an exception under regulation II(d) for players that lived in and played for our league prior to moving out of the league boundaries. A waiver from Little League headquarters must be obtained by the league president for any Regulation II(d) exceptions.

Q: How do I become a coach?

A: Coaches and managers need to apply with our league coaching coordinator whose name and contact information can be found on our board of directors page.

Q: Who elects the league officials?

A: The board of directors is elected by the membership at the league’s general membership meeting held in October every year. The newly elected board of directors then elects its own members to the different officer positions.

Q: How do I become a league official?

A: Attend the general membership meeting in October and have someone nominate you for the board of directors. If elected you may be nominated for a specific officer position to be elected by the board of directors.

Q: What is All-Stars?

A: All-Stars are the best players selected to be on a post-season tournament team to represent Nunaka Valley Little League in District 1 tournaments. Since All-Stars are not open to everyone, league funds are not used to pay for their expenses. Each player or a team sponsor either pays these expenses. The All-Star season takes place in July after the regular season has ended.

Q: Why do I need residency documentation?

A: Little League rules require three pieces of documentation that prove a
players parents live within our league boundaries. This rule is to prevent leagues from recruiting players from other leagues in an effort to build a “Dream Team”.

Q: Who maintains the Nunaka Valley ball fields?

A: In the past the Municipality has done minimal maintenance that was supplemented by the league. This year, to avoid an 800% increase in our field permit fees, we have entered into an agreement with the Municipality that has us performing all mowing, weed trimming, watering, and infield maintenance thru mid September.

Q: What is field clean-up day?

A: The first Saturday in May all teams and parents gather at the Nunaka Valley ball field complex and perform a spring clean-up of the fields and grounds. Uniforms are distributed to players afterwards. Players and parents should bring rakes and gloves.

Q: What are skill evaluations?

A: Skill evaluation is a group practice where your child’s ball playing ability is rated. This is done so that we can balance talent among teams. This gives every team a chance at winning games.

Q: Why aren’t all players required to attend skill evaluation?

A: Only minors and majors baseball are required to attend skill evaluations. At T-Ball and Coach-pitch we don’t keep score so balancing the talent is not an issue. At junior baseball and all levels of softball we usually do not have more than two teams. At these levels the two teams are practiced together for a few days and the coaches then divide the teams evenly.

Q: What is “league age”?

A: League age is a Little League term for the age a player is considered to be for the
2008 season. For all levels of baseball, T-Ball, and Coach-Pitch a player’s league age is the age the player is on April 30,
2008. For softball the league age is the age the player is on December 31,
2007.

Q: Who umpires my child’s games?

A: Parent volunteers are the persons who umpire all of our games. These volunteer umpires are in short supply and are not always able to cover all games. In that case the older level games have priority for umpires. If no umpire is available the home team may need to get a parent or coach to umpire their game.

Q: How much are umpires paid?

A: Nothing. Umpires are volunteers. We do provide them with food and drink from our concession stand.

Q: How do I become an umpire?

A: We are always looking for more umpires. There are various training clinics offered by District 1 Little League and our Umpire-in Chief can give individual training.
The Umpire-in-Chief contact information is available on our board of directors page.

Q: What is coach-pitch?

A: Coach-Pitch is a level of play between T-Ball and Minors. It is called coach-pitch because each teams coach pitches to their own players because the players at this level do not have the skill to be able to pitch strikes.

Q: What is T-Ball?

A: T-Ball is our lowest level of baseball. Players hit the ball off a tee rather than being pitched to. However, new rule changes allow for coaches to throw a limited number of pitches to T-ball players that they feel are advanced enough to hit the ball. This rule change is optional and does not have to be utilized by the coaches.

Q: What is your league's Refund Policy?
