In 1985, Jim Mellody dreamed up the idea of a neighborhood pub where friends and families could gather to enjoy good food and sports in a fun, comfortable atmosphere. Together, with his wife Jeanette, they embellished the Brady family name and created the now-famous Beef 'O' Bradys®. Their first restaurant opened in Brandon, Florida. The regulars quickly nicknamed it "Beef s®." Inspired by a love of sports, Jim filled his restaurant with TVs and satellite dishes so patrons could enjoy watching a vast array of sporting events. He also covered the walls with authentic sports memorabilia he had collected through the years. As a final touch, he made sure a traditional Irish Blessing graced every menu, bidding good fortune and happy times to all who visited. As the Beef's® story grew, so too did the menu. It was important to Jim that guests have variety (like the award-winning wings available in 12 signature sauces) as well as signature favorites with an Irish twist. Hoffman's Hardware, Since 1890, current company President Tom Winemiller's Great Grandfather, Sam Hoffman, along with partners, opened a sheet metal shop in the Town of New Portage (North Barberton) called Miller Brothers and Hoffman. A difference of opinion concerning their future caused the Millers and Mr. Hoffman to split soon afterward with the Millers taking the sheet metal shop portion of the business and Hoffman taking the hardware business and moving to Barberton. In 1902, the business was incorporated as The Barberton Hardware Company. The company was heavily influenced in the early years by Sam Hoffman's son-in-law Fred Winemiller and later, his two sons Fred (Fritz) and Sam Winemiller. In 1976, Sam's son Tom joined the business as we opened up our Norton location, now called Hoffman's Ace Hardware, in Norton Plaza. About NWC Our officers and committee chairpersons have been busy planning the projects and activities in which we will be taking part this year. We hope you will join us in as many of the community events as possible. Norton Womens Club is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious organization. General meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7PM at the Community Center at Columbia Woods Park unless an alternate location is specified for a special program or meeting. The November and December General Meetings are held on the second Thursday due to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. New members are always welcome. |
