I would like to welcome all players, coaches, parents and fans to the inaugural season of the North Coast High School Hockey League. For a lot of us, it has been a long off-season of meetings, and I would like to thank all the coaches and team managers that came to those meetings, discussed issues, did the research, and helped form the league your team will be playing in this season. So, please take the time to thank your coaches and team managers for all their effort to make the league go from dream to idea to concept to reality—they deserve it! The basis for forming the NCHSHL was to bring the various independent club and varsity high school hockey teams in the greater Cleveland area into a formalized league that followed the playing rules of the OHSAA. Here are some quick things that league will allow all its teams and players to take advantage of and benefit from this season: *The league will follow the OHSAA rules, which prepares these teams better for play against other existing varsity hockey programs and gives our teams a level of credibility within the high school hockey community. *The league gives teams a guideline to follow for moving from club status to varsity status and eventually into the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League. *The league provides the opportunity for teams to play other teams of similar skill levels in a competitive league environment. *The league offers teams the chance to gauge their progress against their peers in the growth and expansion of their programs. *The league will supply an avenue for teams to compete for a divisional (club/varsity) championship, play-off championship, and various individual awards. However, the bottom line is that it is just plain more fun to play in a competitive league and not just a bunch of independent exhibition games! I truly hope that is what the league provides for your teams and players—more fun and more competition! Good luck with your season! Sincerely, Nate Kallay Commissioner of the NCHSHL |
