"Grumman, a sophomore defender, joined Legg and Graham in making it difficult for opponents to find quality shots. However, Grumman also had a hand in arguably two of Kenyon's biggest goals of the season. She set up the team's only goal in an NCAC semifinal match-up at the College of Wooster, a 1-0 triumph for the Ladies. Three days later, Grumman then banged home the lone score in regulation in the NCAC championship game against Wittenberg University, which Kenyon ultimately won, 2-1, in a stroke-off."

Former Sailor Earns All-tournament Honors (from the 11/11/07 Daily Pilot)

Sasha Grumman, a Newport Harbor High product, helped the Kenyon College field hockey team win the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament championship Oct. 27, beating the Wittenburg University Tigers, 2-1.

Grumman, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored the game’s first goal, which later proved to be important.

The Tigers tied the game and the two teams took it to a shootout to determine a winner, with the Ladies taking home the trophy and an automatic bid into the national tournament.

Kenyon (11-12) lost to The State of New York at Cortland, 2-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division III field hockey championship tournament on Wednesday.

The Ladies made their third appearance in the national tournament.

"Whitfield, the Wolverines' only second-team pick, received All-Region honors for the first time in her career in recognition of her key role among the U-M defensive corps. An All-Big Ten second team selection and the Wolverines' primary stick stopper on the penalty-corner unit, Whitfield led Michigan this season with a career-high 10 assists and one defensive save."
