  Welcome

Sunday, April 5

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP WITHOUT BEING APPROVED BY A COACH!!!

Travel Soccer has limited roster spots per team. In some cases we have NO roster spots left on a given team.

Also, since travel soccer is a higher competition level, we want to make sure that your child has fun on a team. As a small town we many times have to include several age groups on one team.

Since children develop at different times, some kids can play "up" on older teams and some cannot (initially) due to body size, speed,  attention span etc.etc.

Besides teaching soccer, we want your child to have fun and love soccer for a long time.

So, please do not live through them and put them into situations they cannot be successful in.

Let them play because they want to and not because you want them to.

Again:  DO NOT JUST SIGN UP YOUR CHILD, without having attended a few practices with the team

and being approved by the coaches of that team.

Current travel teams:

Under 8 New Paltz Hurricanes

Under 8 New Paltz Storm

These two teams or for Mixed Boys and Girls includes Under 7's and some 6's)

Once we have enough girls, we can hopefully split into a boys and a girls team

Under 10 Boys New Paltz Thunderhawks (Fall only)

Under 10/11 Boys New Paltz Thunderhawks Spring (U 9's through Under 11's)

Under 14 Boys New Paltz Lightning

Under 14 Girls New Paltz Rage

If you want to play travel soccer and we do not have your child's age group, please contact us.

We may be able to find a roster spot for you with a neighboring town.

Attention Spring 09 TRAVEL teams !

If you paid in full $ 160 for Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 you do not need to do anything.

If you only paid $ 80 for the Fall, please send a check to:

New Paltz Travel Soccer

P.O. Box 2250

Below information is only applicable for the Fall or players who are NEW FIRST TIME TRAVEL PLAYERS (i.e. have not played in the Fall of 2009)

ATTENTION!!!! DO NOT REGISTER WITHOUT BEING ACCEPTED BY THE COACH OF THE TEAM

Click on the following link:

>REGISTER FOR 2008 Fall/2009 Spring TRAVEL SOCCER<

If you are on the sign up website for the FIRST TIME, do not enter any information into the first window you see! Instead click on the button that says CREATE AN ACCOUNT.

If you registered last year you already have an account with sportssign up and just need to sign in. Please read all the instructions to the end. Whenever people call trying to get help, the culprit is NEVER the system. People do not want to take the time to read entire sentences and just click on everything that pops up. Your computer/browser needs to have "cookies" enabled, otherwise the system cannot recognize you.

The simplest mistake we see is somebody putting in all the information and then forgetting to click the "Register" button.

Second common mistake is registering a child as a parent. So, please register a PLAYER!!

If you get stuck call 565-8224 day or 255-6478 eve and we will guide you through it.

Our registrar sees every transaction (even incomplete) and gets notified about every successfull registration. No need to ask or follow up.

If you are on the registration site for the first time, YOU MUST FIRST ESTABLISH AN ACCOUNT. click on the appropriate button.

We are working on creating age appropriate teams in partnership with Highland and other clubs. As a small town, we have always added younger players to older teams , thus robbing each new younger team of it's true age group talent. Our neighboring clubs do the same.

We are trying to break this cycle for a better soccer experience for all the kids in New Paltz and our neighbors.

Age groups

U 14 Players born on or after August 1, 1994

U 13 Players born on or after August 1, 1995

U 12 Players born on or after August 1, 1996

U 11 Players born on or after August 1, 1997

U 10 Players born on or after August 1, 1998

U 09 Players born on or after August 1, 1999

U 08 Players born on or after August 1, 2000

Very young teams will be co-ed depending on interest.

About travel soccer:

Cost $ 160.00 for a season (Fall and Spring)

Travel teams will be trained twice a week by trainers with coaching licenses (May be a parent) as well as a club trainer with professional background.

Beside the twice weekly practices, games will be played on SUNDAY's. Most games start at 12 o'clock , so with travel time you may have to leave at 10:00 from New Paltz for away games.

Each team plays 8-10 games a season , usually 4/5 home and 4/5 away games.

We play in the East Hudson League (EHYSL) Younger teams play more regional (Goshen, Newburgh, Kingston etc.) whereas older teams may play further away.

Travel Soccer requires commitment! We play a Fall and Spring Season and may practice in the winter or go to some indoor tournaments.

The club's main goal is to teach fundamentals and prepare the kids for High School play.

Please e-mail us through this website for additional questions.

1st/2nd grade Pre-Travel unlimited roster spots. We play Sundays.

General Information about Travel Soccer

Travel teams practice twice a week and play games on Sundays. These games are at 12 or after, but since players have to be at away games 30-45 minutes early and it takes time to get to an away game, you may have to be on the road by 10 on a given Sunday or have your child catch a ride with a team mate.

We play 8 - 10 games per season Fall and Spring). 5 home (High School) and 5 away games. Younger teams are grouped regionally to keep travel to a minimum. Older teams go further out and division 1 teams have to play everywhere within the league (EHYSL) boundries.

Travel Soccer plays all year around and the amount of games is determined by how active each team wants to be.

We work on footskills indoors in the wintertime or go to indoor tournaments etc.

Travel Age brackets for Fall 2008/Spring 2009
----------------------------------
U 08 born on or after 8/1/00
U 09 born on or after 8/1/99
U 10 born on or after 8/1/98
U 11 born on or after 8/1/97
U 12 born on or after 8/1/96
U 13 born on or after 8/1/95
U 14 born on or after 8/1/94
U 15 born on or after 8/1/93
U 16 born on or after 8/1/92
U 17 born on or after 8/1/91
U 18 born on or after 8/1/90
U 19 born on or after 8/1/89

Younger players are allowed to play on older teams (called: "playing up") , but older players cannot play on younger teams. Girls are allowed to play on boys teams, but boys are not allowed to play on girls teams.

We are working on new Girls Under 10 and Under 8 teams, as well as a Boys Under 11 and 8.

As a small town we usually have to combine several age groups to have enough players.

For the U 8 teams we are working on a new concept of "Travel Soccer Lite". The idea is to play neighboring towns without having to travel too far.

The games for this age group are 2 x 25 minutes and to drive one hour plus to play 25-40 minutes for that doesn't seem to make sense.

Established teams travel anywhere in the East Hudson League Region

Travel Soccer has limited roster space, so anybody interested, contact the coaches below first to see, if there are openings.

Any Travel Registration must be done online! (See links folder)
When you see the LOGIN screen, you must FIRST CREATE AN ACCOUNT!

Please mail the Parent Code (part of the registration and an extra copy is in the forms folder) of Conduct (SIGNED by both parents) to our Club address below or get them to your coaches asap!!

New Paltz Soccer programs have grown considerably and we are now working on re-designing the websites and combine them.

The easiest way is to remember is to go to:

www.NewPaltzSoccer.org

It has info about all New Paltz Soccer programs.

It also serves as an easy to remember site from which you can get to all the programs/other sites.
We are playing in the East Hudson Youth Soccer league . For all league related info (Select, age group , schedules etc.) go to:

www.EHYSL.org

"What is the difference between Travel and Town League ?, is the most asked question we get.

The answer is simple: in travel we play all year around, even in the winter, (inside:-) During Fall and Spring, we play 4-5 games away in other towns and we play 4-5 games at home (NP High School).
All games are usually on Sundays after 12. We may play some tournaments or in an indoor league in the winter (Milton)

Actually, this is all about commitment vs. baby sitting. Travel soccer is for committed players AND families that want to have the kids prepared for High School.
While High School may be far away , it is always best to be challenged and if you do something, you might as well learn how to do it well.

All our coaches have coaching licenses (Mostly national D)

Many kids quit soccer at 13/14, when they realize they didn't put in the time to learn the basics, such as footskills, tactical understanding etc.

We want players to be successful on their teams by doing their best (DOES NOT MEAN WINNING)
A good athlete who may be the best on a town soccer team, needs to be challenged in an allstar environment with peers of his or her capability.

If your child doesn't like to run or sweat, you are not ready for travel soccer (for that matter for many sports)

Our intensity level is medium, all we ask from the kids and parents is that once they sign on to be committed.

We know there is always another activity , birthday party , family function, etc.etc., We are planning to take enough kids, so that we can accommodate missing players. Just teach your child that : "I don't feel like it" is not a way to get out of a commitment.

The team(s) depend on all of the players.

Call me, if you have any questions, as I can go on forever:-)

Frequently asked questions:

What ball size should I buy for my child.

Recommended league sizes are

size 3 for U 8
size 4 for U 9 through 13
size 5 for U 14

As the size 3 for U 8 is only used for one season, most of the time teams play with a size 4.
So, we recommend to buy a size 4.
Please make sure that the ball you buy has stitched seams and not glued on panels.

What other equipment do I need?
Shinguards are mandatory. Please make sure you buy them big enough. Good shinguards cover the shins up to shortly under the knee. Also, make sure you get the hard plastic kind with ankle cup protection. "Wrap around foam style" without plastic reinforcement is not a good choice. Stick with name brands from soccer suppliers, such as adidas, umbro, nike, some Franklin shinguards are also good.

Cleats. Make sure you are not buying football, baseball or metal cleats. Test the shoe buy running your hand over the sole. Nothing should feel sharp. Most of the soles are rubber molded, so if you get anything with metal, you are not buying a soccer shoe. (there are shoes with screw in studs, but these are usually for professionals)
When you buy a new pair, make sure your child wears them in. Let the kid put the shoes on at home for small periods at a time. New shoes will cause blisters, if used immediately for play or practice.
Do not buy shoes that are too big "to grow into" 1/2 a size over the actual shoe size is okay and can be taken care of with extra socks. There is no need to buy very expensive shoes for very young players. All brands are usually good.

What if my child loves to play, but I cannot get him/her to practices or games?

Talk to the coaches, they will arrange whatever needs arranging. Let your child go, they will love the independence.

What qualifications do your coaches have:

Most of our coaches are licensed and have taken tests and classes from coaching instructors. E, F and youth moduls allow for coaching up to U 12.

D licenses are required for U 12 through U 19.
If you are a parent who wants to get a license, let us know. We know which classes are coming up in our area.
