Nease Upended in Pre-Season Tilt
The Nease Panthers travelled to Satellite High School yesterday for two pre-season games.

In the first game last night against Merritt Island, the Panthers lost a close game 2-1. Merritt Island came out on top scoring the first goal off a lofted shot from the top of the 18 about mid-way through the first half. They took that lead into halftime. About 10 minutes into the second half Nease equalized off a Maddie Leon corner kick that she bent into the goal. Merritt Island went up for good about midway through the second stanza when their forward broke free, dribbled downfield and beat the Nease keeper for the score.

The Panthers take on 2005 5A finalist Satellite High School today at 2:00 p.m.

Sunday, October 30
Satellite Tops Nease
Satellite High School topped Nease 4-1 in the final pre-season game. Nease got into a hole early, fought back but never really got things going. Maddie Leon picked up the Panthers only goal for the second game in a row.

The season officially begins next Saturday when the Panthers take on Lake Mary at home at 2:00 p.m. The JV game will be at 12:00 on Saturday.

The JV team begins play this Tuesday when they take on Ridgeview HS at their field at 5:00 p.m.

Panthers and Rams Battle to 0-0 Tie
The Nease Panthers didn't pick an easy opponent to kick off the 2005-2006 season. Lake Mary ended last season ranked #2 in 6A, the group with the largest high schools in the state. Of course the Panthers captured the 4A crown last season so they definitely were not going to be pushovers for the Rams. Well, Nease was more than a handful giving Lake Mary trouble all afternoon. The game ended in a 0-0 tie but the Panthers missed a number of opportunities to put the game away. They had the edge in possession and also led in corner kicks. Lake Mary had a couple of good chances but Nease shut them down with good defense.

The next game is this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at home as the Panthers host Clay High School.

Wednesday, November 9
Nease Opens at Home With a Win
The Nease Panthers played their first official home game of the season at Panther Stadium and the results were very, very good. Nease didn't miss a beat picking up where they left off last season and routing Clay High School 6-1.

The Panthers came ready to play and set the tone early when Jamie Silverberg took it straight downfield right at the Clay keeper. In the ensueing collision, the ball came loose and Kristen Hoover pounced on it for the first Nease score. Within minutes, Nease scored again when a Nease corner kick jangled around in the box and came out to Nicki Lombardo who sent in a high arcing shot for the second Nease goal. It looked like Clay might be a game of it when forward Heather Simpson was able to put one away making the score 2-1. That feeling was short-lived as Stacey Hanburry picked up a rebound to put Nease up 3-1. Kristen Hoover scored her second of the night off a pass from Lombardo to make it 4-1 going into the half. Nease substituted frequently during the first half and came out with a different linup to begin the second half. It made no difference as the onslaught continued. Brittany Hawkins picked up a rebound off the keeper to put the Panthers up 5-1 and Jamie Silverberg rounded out the scoring for Nease picking up a pass from Hanburry dribbling in and putting the final touches on the win.   Final score Nease 6, Clay 1.

Panthers Win First Game of the Timberwolf Classic
The Nease Panthers travelled to Tallahassee for the Timberwolf Classic Tournament held at Chiles High School. The first match pitted them against Leon High School. Leon has produced some very good teams in the past and the games against them have been tight physical affairs. This year there was just no contest.

Leon tried their best, but it became evident early on that they wouldn't be able to handle the Nease attack. Maddie Leon and Nicki Lombardo combined for the Panthers to get things going. Nicki got the ball just outside the 18 and lofted a perfect pass over the Leon backline that Maddie headed into the goal.

Maddie was in the right place for the second Nease score as Kristen Hoover dribbled down the left side and sent a cross in that Maddie headed off a Leon defender into the net. Stacey Hanburry picked up the third goal for Nease. It began when Lombardo slotted a ball in to a charging Kristen Hoover. Kristen lightly touched it over to Stacey who tapped it in for the score. Ashley Hurley netted the fourth Panther goal when she picked up Hanburry's shot that bounced off the Leon keeper. Jessica Gambell got goal number five for Nease when she took a pass from Lombardo, dribbled out to the right of the 18 and lofted a shot into the far corner of the goal. Jess was involved in the next goal as well when a through-ball was sent in to her. She was in the box but running into traffic so she left it for Lauren Crossan who was also making a parallel run at the back post about five yards way. Crossan one-touched it in to make it 6-0.

Nease started the second half with a different lineup than started the game. It made no difference. Jess Gambell picked up where she left off at the end of the first half. She received a slotted ball from Lanie Sahs this time and had a breakaway and score to make it 7-0. Kasey Eckstein capped off the scoring when she hit a free kick from about 35 yards out that skimmed under the crossbar into the goal.

Despite very physical play from the two Leon forwards, the Panther defense limited Leon to zero, yes zero, shots on goal. Cathryn O'Donnell and Hannah Marvin split time in the nets and shared the shutout.

Nease will play Flagler High School, 4-2 winners over Mosley, tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. at field 1.

Panthers Win it All!!!
The Nease Panthers came home champions of the Timberwolf Classic Tournament with a close 4-3 PK win over Flagler Palm Coast in the semis and a 4-1 victory over Niceville in the championship game.

The game against Flagler was a nailbiter for sure but like Leon, a Nease and Flagler game is usually a hardfought contest. Nease jumped out to an early 2 goal lead and seemed to be sailing along smoothly. Things got going for Nease early when Erin Hoover fed a ball in to Maddie Leon for the first score and Nicki Lombardo found Kristen Hoover for the second. But Flagler came back, making it 2-1 off a Casey Lademann goal. Nease took the 2-1 lead into the half. Flagler then evened the score at 2-2 early into the second half when Morgan Weinberg found the net. Lademann found the net a second time for Flagler putting them up 3-2 and setting the stage for some late game heroics from the Panthers. After Nease fell behind they immediately raised the intensity up a notch or two. Even so, it looked like time might run out before we could get a goal. With under two minutes remaining, Lauren Crossan was able to break loose in the left corner and get a cross into the box. Jessica Gambill was making a run in at just the right moment and pounced on the ball netting it to tie the game. Ties go immediately to PK's. It went to 5 then to 6 kicks..... we made one more than Flagler and the Panthers advanced to the finals! Cathryn O'Donnell made three spectacular PK saves to ensure the win.

No one knew what to expect from the final. Nease had never played Niceville but all reports indicated they'd be a strong side. It went back and forth for about the first ten minutes before Erin Hoover let loose a long shot from out by the right sideline that went over the Niceville keepers head to put the Panthers up 1-0. Niceville evened the score at 1-1 a few minutes later. Nease held the one goal advantage until about 15 minutes remaining in the half. Jamie Silverberg sent a cross in from the left side to Lauren Crossan who angled the ball into the goal to put Nease up for good, 2-1. Halftime score 2-1. Stacey Hanburry picked up Nease's third goal early into the second half. Niceville refused to give in and Cathryn O'Donnell made some great saves to keep them off the scoreboard. The Nease defense came up big time after time turning away the Niceville attack. Lauren Crossan capped scoring for Nease when she took a throw-in from Kristen Hoover that went over the Niceville defenders. Crossan dribbled the ball in and put it away. Final score Nease 4, Niceville 1.

Our Panthers Beat Their Panthers
The Nease Panthers defeated the Palatka Panthers 8-0. It took the Panthers about 9 minutes to pick up their first goal when Nease sophomore Kasey Eckstein hit on a direct kick in from 35 yards out on the right. It was to be the first of three goals for Eckstein. About 10 minutes later sophomore Mary Scott Moore picked up her first goal of the season assisted by Jessica Gambell. Moore also finished the match with three goals. Before the half ended Lanie Sahs and Stacey Hanburry added goals for Nease making the halftime score 7-0. Ecksteins third goal at about the 10 minute mark into the second half closed out the match and sent everyone home happy. Final score Nease 8, Palatka 0.

The next game is Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Pedro Menendez.

The Nease JV beat Palatka also by an 8-0 score.

Friday, November 18
Nease Over Menendez 6-0
It wasn't pretty but Nease came away with the win scoring 5 second half goals going away.

Jamie Silverberg and Lauren Crossan combined for the first Nease goal at the 16:50 mark of the first half with Crossan sending a ball to the left that Silverberg was able to run onto and take to goal. The first half ended 1-0.

About 7 minutes into the second half, Maddie Leon scored goal two off a pass from Crossan. Within minutes, Mickelle Miller made it a 3-0 game picked up her first goal of the year off an assist from Ashley Hurley. Nease keeper Catherine O'Donnell, playing the field picked up goal 4 off an assist from Kasey Eckstein. Lanie Sahs had the next goal and Leon picked up the final goal, her second of the match with Sahs assisting. Final score Nease 6, Menendez 0.

Tuesday, November 22
Nease and St. Augustine Tie
In a battle of playing styles there was no clear winner as the Nease Panthers and St. Augustine Yellow Jackets tied 3-3. Nease dominated possession, had more chances, more shots and more corners but the scoreboard didn't show it. St. Augustine played the counter attack very well and was able to find their outstanding forward Laura Ray all night long. Their keeper also had a very solid game.

St. Augustine struck first going up 1-0 pretty early when Ray ripped a long shot in from outside. Kristen Hoover evened it up off a Maddie Leon corner kick a short while later. The Yellowjackets went right back to Ray who again hit a shot from outside that found home. Nicki Lombardo tied it up again for the Panthers on a shot from just outside the 18. It was 2-2 at halftime. St. Augustine went back ahead 3-2 when Ray struck again and it looked like time might run out for the Panthers. Lombardo came through for Nease in the final two minutes as she was able to find the back of the net to tie it up at 3-3. That's how the game ended.

Tuesday, November 29
Nease Tops Bolles 4-1
The Nease Panthers were too much for the Bolles Bulldogs pulling out to an early 1-0 then 2-0 lead before winning going away 4-1.

Nease got on the board about 17 minutes in when Nicki Lombardo netted a PK. With about 9 minutes left in the half, Nease went up 2-0 off a Kasey Eckstein corner kick. Bolles came back in the closing seconds of the first half to make it 2-1.

Nease went on the score two more goals from Lombardo and Kristen Hoover to close out the scoring.

Friday, December 2
Nease Walks Over Atlantic
Nease travelled south on Thursday to Municipal Stadium in Daytona to play Atlantic High. The trip was worth it as the Panthers came away with a not-unexpected victory, winning 8-0.

Sunday, December 4
Nease Defeats St. John's Country Day
In a meeting of 2A and 4A State Champions, the Nease Panthers came out on top defeating SJCD 2-1.

After a scoreless first half Nease got on the board almost immediately after the second half began when Jamie Silverberg crossed a ball into Lisa Heise who headed it into the goal to put the Panthers up 1-0. Nikki Lombardo picked up the second goal for Nease when she finished off a cross from Heise with a leaping one-touch shot into the goal. Catherine O'Donnell had some great saves to keep the game close and the defense held the SJCD counter-attack in check all night.

SJCD got their only goal with about a minute remaining in the match.

Tuesday, December 6
Good Night Pedro
The Nease Panthers won their tenth game of the season with an easy 8-0 win over the Falcons of Pedro Menendez. Nease scoring was evenly distributed amongst 8 different players.

Jamie Silverberg started things off for Nease at about the 12 minute mark when she netted the first Panther goal. Nikki Lombardo followed 2 minutes later with goal number 2 assisted by Kristen Hoover. Fifteen seconds later the rout was on as Lisa Heise picked up goal number 3 assisted by Lombardo. Stacey Hanburry had the next Nease goal assisted by Kristen. Lauren Crossan rounded out scoring for the half for Nease assisted again by Lombardo.

It only took about 10 more minutes for Nease to end the game as Dani Nelson, Maddie Leon and Lanie Sahs picked up the last three goals for the Panthers.

The Nease JV improved their record to 5-1-1 with an 8-0 win over Menendez.

Nease Defeats Palatka
Nasty, rainy weather accompanied the Panthers tonight as they travelled to the lovely hamlet of Palatka on the shores of the majestic St. Johns River. Nease splashed their way to victory winning 8-0 in a mercy rule shortened game. Crossan, Delaney, Lombardo, Hanburry and Hawkins all scored for the Panthers.

Nease plays Satellite HS tomorrow evening at home at 7:30 p.m. The game was moved to Friday to accomodate travel to Miami on Saturday to support our Panther football team as the play for a state championship in the 4A State Finals at 1:00 p.m. in Dolphins Stadium.

Granted the girls first commitment is to their Nease Soccer teammates. However, given the extraordinary circumstances of playing for a state title it was felt that every effort possible should be undertaken to make accomodations that would allow them to honor that commitment and play the Satellite game and to also support their school and football team. It would have been a shame for any student, parent or citizen of our fair city to miss this championship game and be denied the opportunity to share in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. This rings especially true for the seniors, the graduating Class of 2006 who view the football team as 'their' team and the championship game as 'their' championship game. Win or lose, 20 Years from now wonderful memories will be there when thoughts of the day when Nease played for the state championship are recalled. We know this because many of us have great memories saved up from last year when the girls soccer team won it all!

Thanks to everyone involved for the extraordinary efforts to make the last minute schedule changes that made this all possible. It certainly would have been a painful and disappointing choice for the players to have to make. Your efforts made this a win-win situation for all.

Now, let's go out and beat Satellite AND bring home a championship for our school!

GO PANTHERS!

Friday, December 9
Scorpions Sting Panthers 2-1
The Panthers took on the last years 5A state runners up, the Satellite High School Scorpions in the first of two matches here in North Florida for the visiting team. Tomorrow afternoon they play 5A Bartram Trail.

Nease came out in a defensive set from the beginning that, combined with outstanding play from our defenders, pretty much frustrated Satellite's attack the entire evening. Neither Scorpion goals came from the run of play. The first goal was off a mis-struck ball inside our 18 that Scorpion Becca Howell took advantage of. The halftime score was 1-0. The second goal came off a set piece just outside the 18 off a questionable call. Howell's kick was able to find the far corner just inside the post to put Satellite up 2-0.

With about 20 minutes remaining, Nease moved more players forward and began to press the attack. They had some success and several good looks at the goal. With a little over 5 minutes left Lauren Crossan got Nease to within one goal when she picked up a pass from Lisa Heise inside the 18 and rolled the ball past the helpless Scorpion keeper. The Panthers continued to press hard but couldn't find the net in the final minutes, the game ending with a 2-1 result.

Tuesday, December 13

Saturday, December 17
Panthers Pick up Two Huge Wins to Advance to Finals
The Nease Panthers picked up wins over Edgewater HS and Lake Mary HS to advance to the finals of the Akers Classic.

In the 11:00 a.m. game the Panthers topped Edgewater 2-0 avenging a controversial 1-0 loss to them at the Akers Tourney in 2004. Lisa Heise scored first in the first half for the Panthers when she picked up a rebound off a direct kick from Nikki Lombardo. Lombardo put the Panthers up by 2, 13 minutes into the second half.

In the 5:00 pm game the Panthers took on the Lake Mary Rams. Nease tied Lake Mary 0-0 early in the season. It was clear from the opening kick that Nease was ready to battle. They had some great looks in the first five minutes of the match. At about the 8 minute mark Maddie Leon put Nease on top as she was able to head in a Lauren Crossan cross to the back post. Lake Mary came back about 2 minutes later to tie the game at 1. Lombardo put Nease ahead again with about 2 and a half minutes left in the half with an assist from Kristen Hoover. Haltime score 2-1.

Crossan put Nease up by 2 about 3 and a half minutes into the half when she took a slotted ball from Lombardo then dribbled to the corner and then to the goal along the touchline where she slipped one past the LM keeper. LM made it interesting scoring their second goal with about 5 minutes remaining. Nease held on for the win 3-2.

Nease will take on Satellite, 2-1 winners over Winter Park, in the final in Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Lake Mary.

Nease Stung By Scorpions in Final
The final of the Akers Classic in Orlando pitted the Florida ranked number 2 Satellite Beach Scorpions against the number 3 ranked Nease Panthers. Add that to the fact that the 2 teams have already played each other twice this season and it had all the earmarks of a classic.

The teams battled from the outset with Satellite pressing the attack very strong early on trying to get that first defining goal. Nease tried to counter with a defensive set hoping to frustrate the Scorpions and take them out of their game. Satellite was able to break through and score twice in the first half putting Nease back on their heels. Nease went on the attack but was unable to recover falling short in the end. Erin Hoover got the Panthers within one goal when she took advantage of a slip by the Scorpion defender and broke free to find herself one on one with the Scorpion keeper. The charging Hoover shot the ball low past the diving Scorpion keeper just inside the left post. Nease battled the entire second half and really upped the pressure late in the game just missing a great opportunity in the final two minutes that would have tied the game.

Final score, Satellite 2, Nease 1.

The Panthers second place finish equaled thier best showing at the tournament back in 2003 when they played Lake Mary in the final. They had arguably the most difficult draw and defeated some very good teams to get to the final. All in all a great tournament. We shouldn't let our disappointment over not winning the final overshadow the great things the team accomplished there.

Lauren Crossan, Nikki Lombardo and Jamie Silverberg were named to the Akers All-Tournament Team and Erin Hoover was named Defensive Player of the Tournament. Congratulations to these players for being selected to receive this honor and to all the other girls who weren't but who played like champions!

GO PANTHERS!

The season picks up again on January 3rd with an away rematch between Nease and St. Augustine. That game is sure to be a battle.

Tuesday, January 3
Nease Crushes St. Augustine
With thoughts of their recent 3-3 tie and district leadership on the line, Nease was on a mission tonight. There's been alot of trash-talking since that last game and the Panthers had something they wanted to say to their rivals at St. Augustine High. They said it loud and clear on the field last night as they crushed the Yellowjackets, 7 - 0.

Nease dominated play throughout, pressing hard and possessing the ball at will. They had lots of chances in the first half that barely missed. The Yellowjackets strategy was to win the ball and launch it to their striker in the hope that she could beat our defenders. Our defensive trio of Erin Hoover, Dani Nelson and Jessica Gambill frustrated her the entire game. Kristen Hoover picked up the lone first half goal for the Panthers when she finished a cross from Lauren Crossan with about 7 minutes remaining. The 1 - 0 halftime score however did not reflect that total dominance on the field.

In the second half the floodgates opened. In the span of about 3 minutes Nease picked up 3 goals, a second from Hoover and 2 from Lisa Heise. Heise assisted on Hoover's goal and Nikki Lombardo assisted on one of Heise's. Four minutes later Nease struck again as Hoover notched her third goal for the hat trick. The rout was on. It was 5 - 0 and there was still 28 minutes to play. Nease emptied their bench and the carnage continued. Maddie Leon picked up goal number 6 for Nease when she converted a PK. Mary Scott Moore rounded out scoring with Heise picking up another assist. Desperate to prevent the dreaded 8 - 0 collar, the Yellowjackets moved their striker back on defense for the final 5 minutes of the game.

With the win, the Panthers are now alone in first place at the top of the district standings. I'm sure the Yellowjackets are already looking toward the District finals and a rematch. The Panthers will be more than ready.

The next game is Thursday away at Clay High School at 7:00 p.m. There is a map to the field on the 'Field Locations' link. The school is located in SR16 west of Green Cove Springs.

Nease Defeats Bartram Trail on Senior Day
In what has become an annual game for bragging rights, the Nease Panthers defeated the Bartram Trail Bears 1 - 0 at Nease Panther Stadium. Today's game was preceded by the Senior Day celebration where we honor the seniors and their individual and the four-year team achievements.   Thanks to Fletcher Groves for being the Master of Ceremonies and doing the announcing.

The game was dominated by the Panthers who scored their only goal with about 8 minutes remaining the first half. Kristen Hoover sent a left-footed cross onto the back of the six yard box that Lauren Crossan headed in for the only score Nease would need. Bartram had a stretch of about 10 minutes in the second half when they seemed to apply more pressure and had some good chances but these were all turned away by the Nease defenders and our keeper Catherine O'Donnell. Nease had their own chances to extend the lead but couldn't connect. Final score Nease 1, Bartram 0.

Tuesday, January 10
Nease Turns it On
Going into this game the Panthers knew to expect a rough and tumble contest against the Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs. They had played earlier in the season at the Timberwolf Classic Tournament and only won in a penalty kick shootout.

The Panthers came out strong and went up 1 - 0 at about the 8 minute mark when Kristen Hoover finished off a Lauren Crossan corner kick. The Bulldogs rallied and tied it up a short time later on a direct kick from just outside the penalty area. Flagler broke out on top early in the second half going ahead 2 - 1. Nease responded the only way they know how..... they began scoring goals fast and furious. Brittany Hawkins tied it up at 2 - 2 for the Panthers with the assist to Nikki Lombardo. Lombardo put the Panthers on top for good with their third goal assisted by Kristen Hoover. Hoover scored her second for number 4 assisted by Maddie Leon. Lanie Sahs scored next for Nease assisted by Crossan. Stacey Hanburry scored the final goal for Nease with an assist to Brittany Hawkins. Final score Nease 6, Flagler 2.

Thursday, January 12
Nease Wins Conference
Nease captured it's second St. John's River Conference title by beating Fleming Island 3 - 0. Jamie Silverberg got things going for the Panthers early when she hit a long direct kick that went inside the right post just past the reach of the Fleming Island keeper putting Nease on top. Nease dominated possession and had some good chances but the halftime score was 1 - 0. About 15 minutes into the second half, Kristen Hoover broke free and sent a cross in from the left side that Mary Scott Moore poked in for Nease. With about 17 minutes to go Lauren Crossan capped off scoring for the Panthers when she received a ball with her back to the goal, turned and shot a low ball just inside the left post to make it 3 - 0.

NEASE IS THE STATE CHAMPION!!!
The Nease Panthers captured their second consecutive 4A State Championship defeating Merritt Island 1 - 0.

The Panthers only goal came off a perfectly placed direct kick from about 25 yards out on the left side by Nikki Lombardo. Stacey Hanburry timed it perfectly and was able to get her body onto the ball and willed it into the goal. Catherine O'Donnell came up with some huge saves in goal for Nease as Merritt Island put on intense pressure trying to equalize. Nease held strong and came out on top! 2006 4A STATE CHAMPIONS! What a season and what a run!

This group of Nease players is the first in school history to win back-to-back state championships! The school has won 3 out of the last 5 years! Repeating puts Nease in some rare company as this has only been accomplished 12 times since girls soccer began being played in Florida. Repeating is one of the most difficult things for any team to do. Everyone is up for your games because they all want to beat the state champs. You go through the entire season wearing a target. The girls themselves never lacked in desire after winning last year. Perhaps it was the frustrating 2 seasons following the 2002 State title that forged that will and determination. The defeat in Titusville in 2004 in Regionals I think was a turning point for this group of seniors. This team was forged in the fire of that bitter defeat and became determined to never ever lose again.

In the last 2 years, the only team other than Satellite HS to defeat Nease was Edgewater HS in the controversial 1-0 Aker's Classic match in 2005.

Nease completed this magical season with a 27 - 2 - 2 record. Of the 27 wins, 19 were by shutout! That's one more than last year's team that won 28 games (28-2-1). That is an amazing statistic. Speaking of statistics, this year's team matches up very closely to last year's team. In 2005, the team scored 129 goals and in 2006 they scored 132. In 2005 and 2006 each team gave up a total of 19 goals over 32 games. Over 2 seasons they are an amazing 55 - 4 - 3.

We say goodbye to 7 seniors who played their final game in a Nease uniform tonight. They are, #20 Alisha Barratt, #1 Lauren Crossan, #5 Ashley Delaney, #7 Erin Hoover, #9 Maddie Leon, #16 Nikki Lombardo, #22 Mickelle Miller and #11 Jamie Silverberg. Thanks for the great memories you have given us over the last 4 years. This group of players will be spoken of in legendary terms by those that follow! You girls accomplished something that's never been done at Nease before, winning back-to-back State titles. You set the bar very, very high for those that will follow. In your final high school game you walked off the field not only as the winner of the game but as the two-time 4A State Champions! You went out on top and no one can ever take that away from you! We are very proud of you and we will never forget you!

GO PANTHERS!

Nease Defeats Pensacola - Washington 2 - 0 to Advance to State Final
The Nease Panthers defeated the Pensacola - Washington Wildcats 2 - 0 to advance to the state finals for the second consecutive year. After a scoreless first half, Lauren Crossan got Nease on the board when Jamie Silverberg found her making a run on the left wing and hit a perfect pass over the defenders. Crossan used her head to loft the ball over the keeper and into the net. In an almost instant reply, Crossan made the same run and Silverberg slotted another through. This time Crossan calmly passed it by the keeper into the net putting Nease up for good 2 - 0.

Nease Takes the First Step
Nease took that big first step in this year's playoffs winning their Regional Quarterfinal match over the Lecanto High School Panthers 6-0 at Nease Panther Stadium.

Nikki Lombardo got things going for Nease about 18 minutes in when she got a pass from Stacey Hanburry and put it away. About 7 minutes later, Hanburry picked up a score of her own with Kristen Hoover assisting putting Nease up 2-0. With about 4 minutes in the half, Lombardo picked up her second, this time assisted by Jamie Silverberg, making it 3-0. Ashley Delaney was taken down in the box with seconds left and Lisa Heise netted the ensueing PK making it 4-0 at the half.

Lauren Crossan kept things going for the Panthers when she took a pass from Lombardo in the box, spun and shot making it 5-0. Alisha Barratt finished off scoring for Nease on a long shot from outside that snuck under the Lecanto keeper.

Catherine O'Donnell and Hannah Marvin combined for the Panther shutout between the pipes.

Final score Nease 6, Lecanto 0.

Nease will take on Bishop Moore High School, 2-0 winners over Gulf High from New Port Richey, in the Regional semifinals at home on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

Nease Takes the District
Nease easily captured the district crown with a convincing 5-0 win over their 4A county-rival, the St. Augustine Yellowjackets.

Nease dominated the game from beginning to end. They overwhelmed the Yellowjackets on the attack striking from every angle and in multiple combinations. Nikki Lombardo and Kristen Hoover controlled the midfield. Defensively, Jamie Silverberg, Erin Hoover, Dani Nelson and Jessica Gambell clamped down on record-setting striker Laura Ray effectively taking her out of the game and limiting the Yellowjackets to taking low percentage shots from far outside. Solid play from keepers Katherine O'Donnell and Hannah Marvin made sure that if anyone broke through, nothing was getting past them.

From the opening minutes of the game, you knew it was only a matter of time before Nease broke it open. Things got going after about 15 minutes when Lauren Crossan sent a cross in from the right side that Lisa Heise finished off making it 1-0. Six minutes later, Kristen Hoover hit a beautiful long volley from about 30 yards out on the left that went over the Yellowjacket keeper's head. 2-0, Nease. With about 4 minutes in the half Crossan lofted a ball into the box that Stacey Hanburry headed in making it 3-0.

Ashley Delaney picked it up for Nease in the second half when she received a slotted ball from Lanie Sahs and ripped a low rocket into the back of the net. With about 18 minutes left, Jamie Silverberg dribbled downfield and broke free through the St. Augustine defensive back line but was tripped from behind in the box. Heise came in and completed the PK picking up her second goal of the night. Nease substituted freely and the team was able to hold the Yellowjackets in check at will.

Our outstanding keepers combined to pick up their 15th shutout of the season.

Nease advances to play Lecanto High School in the regional quarter finals next Thursday at home at 7:00 p.m. Lecanto High is located in the Homosassa area of Citrus County near the west central coast of Florida west of Ocala and north of St. Petersburg. As district runner-up, St. Augustine travels to take on Inverness Citrus High School.

Nease Advances to District Finals
The Panthers advanced to the district finals with an easy win over Pedro Menendez, 8-0. Nease will take on St. Augustine on Friday at 7:00 p.m. St. Augustine escaped a very close match with Clay HS in the other district semi winning in overtime, 1-0. With the wins, Nease and St. Augustine are both guaranteed spots in post season play that begins next Thursday with the regional quarterfinals.

In tonight's game, Nease came out strong and got on the board about 6 minutes in when Nikki Lombardo slotted a ball through to Lauren Crossan who dribbled to goal and slipped a ball under the diving Menendez keeper. Less than a minute later, Crossan crossed a ball into the box to Lisa Heise who had made a back post run and flicked it in to make it 2-0. Heise connected again minutes later when she received a pass from Nikki Lombardo putting Nease up 3-0. A minute later it was Stacey Hanburry's turn as she finished off a corner kick from Crossan. Jessica Gambell picked up the next Panther goal when Nikki Lombardo found her with a pass on the right wing and Gambell ran it to goal for the score. Hanburry picked up her second goal when she was able to find the net making it 6-0 at the half.

If you liked the first half you'd love the second half as the remaining goals came so fast if you blinked you'd miss them. Dani Nelson got things going barely 45 seconds into the half when she got on the end of a cross from the left side from Gambell. A minute later it was over as this time Lombardo got on the end of cross from the left from Kristen Hoover. Game over. Final score, Nease 8, Pedro 0.
