The Nease Panthers and Bolles Lady Bulldogs fought to a 0 - 0 draw in a match between 2 of North Florida's best girls varsity soccer teams. Nease goalkeeper Natalie Gillespie came up huge in the second half with 2 saves in succession to preserve the tie. Nease had the edge in possession but in the end was unable to find the net.

Panthers In the Final After Big Win Over Winter Park
If Winter Park sounds familiar, it might be because you noticed the Ranking posted on our website that shows them ranked the number 2 girls high school team in the southeast and undefeated.... that is previously undefeated.
Winter Park is a dangerous team. They would destroy a weak team. The Panthers don't fit that bill. Nease showed we have some weapons of our own, a tenacious, impenetrable defense and some dangerous and dynamic offensive players.
The Panthers deserved to win this game but as many of us know in soccer that's not always what happens. We again had more and better opportunities to score and after the first 10 minutes controlled the match. We had several offensive drives that resulted in shots just missing the net and players dragged down in the box with no call from the referee. All the while, our defense shut down the Winter Park attack and prevented their key players from being a factor. The intensely physical contest ended tied 0 - 0 in regulation. In this tournament, if the game is tied, it goes directly to penalty kicks and then if still tied after 5 to sudden death penalty kicks.
Well, it went back and forth through the first five kicks, each goalie making a big save to keep their side alive but we were still tied.
Then, goalie Natalie Gillespie came up H - U - G - E ! ! ! ! ! saving Winter Park's 6th penalty shot and opening the door for the Panthers. It was in the hands of sweeper Nicole Eckensberger. It's a long walk from midfield where her teammates waited for their turn to shoot. Nicole slowly and calmly approached the penalty area. Each step added more pressure on the Winter Park goalie and increased Nicole's focus on her mission. Then in an instant.... she shoots.... a low shot to the right of the keeper.... she scores!!!! Nicole is mobbed by her teammates. Nease is in the finals of the Michelle Akers for the first time ever!
The final game will be against 2002 state 4A champion Lake Mary High School on Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
There is no news about the game in the St. Augustine Record so.....

Panthers Fall to Lake Mary 2 - 0 in Final
The Nease Panthers fell 2 - 0 to Lake Mary High School to earn second place in this most prestigious and competitive girls' high school tournaments in the state of Florida. The Panthers went toe-to-toe with 15 of the best high school teams in the state and were just one win away from taking it all. Lake Mary's goalkeeper came up big with three diving savings that kept Nease off the board.
Nease went into the tournament hobbled by injuries to several key players. Given the challenging situation, the team responded by advancing further than any Nease team has ever gone in this tournament. Not even last year's 2A State Championship team made it this far. Along the way the Panthers beat Winter Park, the previously undefeated and number 2 ranked team in the Southeast, Winter Springs, the eventual 5th place team and a young Orangewood team that placed 3 players on the all-tournament player list. This group of girls proved they can play with any team in the state. They also served notice to the other teams in 2A that they will have a fight on their hands if they are looking to dethrone Nease as 2A Champions!
To the Nease parents, thanks for being there to support and to cheer on the team and to the Nease players and coaches, thanks for giving us something to cheer about! Congratulations to Jenna Silverberg for making the all-tournament player list!
All have a great holiday!

Nease Tops St. Augustine 6 - 0
The Nease Panthers shut down the St Augustine Yellow Jackets 6 - 0 on the frigid field at St Augustine High School. The cold seemed to slow our attack somewhat, but the Panthers kept at it and ended the game just 2 goals shy of their 8 goal total in their first matchup with St. Augustine. Jenna Silverberg (2), Danielle Mullen (2), Lauren Crossan and Lauren Passa scored for Nease. It was the Panthers 9th shutout of the season. Panthers Top Fletcher 1 - 0
In a physical but pretty much one-sided affair, the Nease Panthers won Beaches soccer bragging rights for the next 12 months as they defeated the previously undefeated Fletcher Senators 1 - 0. The Panthers possessed the ball more, controlled more of the play and attacked pretty much the entire match. They created some great chances but we were either unlucky around the goal or a Fletcher player stepped up and made a play. The Panther defense smothered Fletcher's attack and allowed them few opportunities. Golden Creavy scored the lone goal for Nease on a break away.
Play was halted in the first half when Fletcher defender Amanda Hennessey suffered a neck injury after a collision with Jenna Silverberg. At last report, Hennessey was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where she was reported to have feeling and movement in her arms and legs.
With the victory, the Panthers recorded their 10th shutout of the season and ran their overall record to 13 - 2 - 1.

Nease Walks Over Menendez 8 - 0 on Senior Night
Panther Pride was in abundance tonight! It was Senior Night at the Nease Varsity game. Senior players and their parents were acknowledged before the game with flowers and a ceremonial walk across the field flanked on either side by an honor guard of Nease players. It was a night to say thank you, to say how proud we are of you and to say that first bittersweet goodbye to these players we have grown up with over these few short years. To this writer, events like this one signify what makes participation in high school sports so special. As announcer Fletcher Groves read off the team's achievements, it was impossible not to feel incredibly proud at what this group of players have achieved on the field over these past recent years. They put Nease Girls Soccer on the map. They made our school and our community proud. They set the bar of achievement high and by doing so challenged each succeeding team to do better. For that, we all, players, parents, and coaches owe them a great deal. The best way to pay them back is to carry that winning tradition forward.
By the way, there was also a soccer game tonight. Ali Womack opened the game with a beautiful rendition of our national anthem and the Panthers did not disappoint in setting down the Pedro Menendez Falcons by a score of 8 - 0. Jenna Silverberg led the attack with 3 goals, Jen Supko had 2 while Nikki Lombardo, Golden Creavy and Aly Womack each added a goal.
A fun time was had by all.

Our last game of the regular season is at Episcopal on Wednesday. During the day it's expected to reach a balmy 68 degrees. Game time temps should be around 58. Now that's more like it!

Nease Comes Back to Top Episcopal
After a sluggish beginning, the Nease Panthers came on strong to win their final regular season game 4 - 1 going away. Episcopal had an impressive score very early on a header off a high ball sent into the box. After the goal, Nease held the advantage in possession and had far more shots on goal than the Eagles but Episcopal held on and went into the half with a 1 - 0 advantage.
Lauren Passa got the team going in the second half. She took a pass from Erin Hoover, did a quick fake to the left and struck a low shot just inside the goal post and out of the reach of their goalie to tie the game 1 - 1.
Lauren Crossan put Nease up 2 - 1 when she took a pass from Jen Supko in the box, spun and fired a hard shot that split 2 defenders and went underneath the diving Eagles goalie.
Crossan put Nease up 3 - 1 when she scored her second goal off of a feed from Erin Hoover. Erin broke through down the right side, turned the corner and carried the ball along the end line. When she got to the box she dished off a sweet pass to Lauren who struck a low curving ball just inside the left post.
It was icing on the cake when, with less than 2 minutes remaining, Crossan took advantage of some loose play on the Eagles backline. After a too-soft pass in the back, she stripped the Eagles sweeper of the ball and capped a breakaway by drilling home the final goal of the game making it 4 - 1. In the process, Lauren earned her first high school hat trick!
The end of the regular season is a good time to reflect on where we are, to see how far we've come and where we still need to go. Nease's record now stands at 17 - 3 - 3. They have scored 93 goals and had only 14 scored against them. They have 12 shutouts and a .739 winning percentage. Very impressive. But before we get to satisfied, there is still much work to be done, there is still the steepest part of the mountain yet to climb. We have Districts and Regionals and if the heavens are smiling on us, maybe State Finals. In our favor.... our girls and our coaches have been here before. They will show us the way.

Nease Eliminated by Seabreeze on Penalty Kicks
They say this is no way to finish a soccer match and today I couldn't agree more! The Panthers were eliminated from Regional play on penalty kicks by the Seabreeze Sandcrabs. The teams were tied through regulation and two ten minute overtime periods. The Panthers had many chances, many shots that just missed the net and were frustrated by some great saves by the Seabreeze keeper.
Congratulations to the team on a wonderful season! They finished as District Champions with a 19 - 4 - 3 record. They beat some very good teams along the way and we are so proud of them all. This is a great group of girls. We owe alot to the senior leaders on this team, Jen Supko, Jenna Silverberg, Aly Womack, Golden Creavy, Danielle Mullen, Lauren Passa, Tara Daniels, who led by example and showed the underclass 'women' what it means to play for Nease Girls Soccer. However, the nucleus of this team and its future lies with its freshmen and sophomores, Meredith being the only junior on the squad. They must chart their own destiny. They are competitors. They learned alot this year and will take something away from this season, a fire to not let this happen next year. They will get stronger, they will get better and they will be back!
