The Nease Panthers kicked off the 2003-2004 season with a 3-0 pre-season win over Stanton. Lauren Crossan started the scoring for Nease about 15 minutes into the first half on a ball that Meghan Thomas lofted over the Stanton back line. Lauren got to the ball a split second before the Stanton goalie and poked it into the goal. Ashley Delaney picked up Nease's second goal on a pass from Ensley Whidby. Jamie Silverberg rounded out the scoring for Nease when she took a pass Erin Hoover, dribbled into the box and scored.

Nease Tops Bartram 5 - 1
The Nease Panthers began the 2003-2004 season with a 5-1 victory over cross-count rival Bartram Trail. Scoring began for Nease in the first half when Erin Hoover rounded the defender in the right corner, dribbled along the end line and then dished a pass off to a charging Nikki Lombardo who buried the ball in the goal. Nease's second goal came off a Megan Thomas direct kick that Kristen Hoover picked up in the box and flicked into the left corner. The third Panther goal came off a high ball that Maddie Leon sky'd in from the right that took a Nease bounce over the Bartram goalie's head and into the goal. Bartram scored their only goal of the game before half time making it 3-1 at the break. Panther scoring in the second half came from Kristen Hoover on a ball the Lauren Crossan lofted across to her feet in front of the goal. Erin Hoover finished up the scoring for Nease when she found a ball bouncing in the box and roofed it into the top of the goal.
Nease's record stands at 1-0. There next game is Friday at 7:20 p.m. at home against Tallassee Leon followed by a Saturday 1:00 p.m. home match against Tallassee Chiles.
Friday, November 14
Nease and Tallahassee Leon Tie 3-3
The Panthers couldn't finish off Tallahassee Leon and had to settle for a 3-3 tie. Nease had leads of 1-0, then 2-1 at half time and 3-1 into the second half but Leon battled back and came away with a tie. Nease goals came from Jamie Silverberg, Erin Hoover and Kristen Hoover. Assists came from Lauren Crossan and Erin Hoover.
Saturday, November 15
Nease Loses to Tallahassee Chiles 2-1
The Nease Panthers lost a nail-biter to Chiles HS 2-1. Nease came back from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game 1-1 but gave up the game winning goal to Chiles in the final minute. Ashley Delaney scored the only goal for Nease. Nease's record stands at 1-1-1.
Tuesday, November 18
Nease Loses to Bishop Kenny
The Nease Panthers suffered another tough loss as they were upended by Bishop Kenny 3-2. The Panthers staked BK to a 3-0 lead with two BK goals coming in the first 10 minutes. The Panthers fought their way back into the match, their comeback bid falling just short. Nease goals came from Kristen Hoover and Jamie Silverberg. Assists came from Lauren Crossan and Nikki Lombardo.
Thursday, November 20
Nease Over Palatka 8-0
The Panthers took a little time to get it going tonight but once they did they made quick work of Palatka ending the game at halftime by the mercy rule. The final score was 8-0. Nease goals came from Kristen Hoover (2), Meagan Thomas (2), Nikki Lombardo, Ali Green, Erin Hoover and Brittany Hawkins. For Green and Hawkins it was their first career varsity goal. Nicole Eckensburger, Lombardo and Green added assists. The Panthers next game is at home on Monday at 5:00 p.m. against Atlantic HS. It will be the first time the two schools have ever faced off against one another.
Tuesday, November 25
Nease Over Atlantic
The Panthers got five second half goals to beat Atlantic 6-0. Goals were scored by Ashley Delaney (2), Nikki Lombardo (2), Nicole Eckensburger and Meagan Thomas. Assists came from Jamie Silverberg (2), Maddie Leon (2) and Ashley Delaney. Nease's record stands at 3-2-1 and the Panthers are 2-0 in District play.
Wednesday, November 26
Nease 3, Menendez 0
The Panthers ran up a 3-0 half time lead and coasted to victory over the Menendez Falcons. The game was not as close as the score would indicate as Nease outshot the Falcons 17 to 3 and had many second-half shots that just missed the net. Panther scoring started at about the 30 minute mark on a Jamie Silverberg to Kristen Hoover combination. Kristen returned the favor 10 minutes later when she crossed a ball in from the right side and Jamie headed it home. Late in the half Kristen scored her second goal when she took a pass from Dani Nelson and hit it to the far post past the diving Falcon keeper.
Nease's record stands at 4-2-1 and they are now 3-0 in District play. Our next game is Tuesday against St. Augustine at home at the usual 7:20 start time. See you at practice this Saturday.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Tuesday, December 2
Nease Squeezes by St. Augustine 3-0
The Panthers beat a scrappy St. Augustine team 3-0. Nease dominated play in the first half but only went into the break with a 1-0 lead on a Maddie Leon goal. The ball barely crossed the midfield line in the first 40 minutes but the close score seemed to embolden the Yellow Jackets. St. Augustine came into the second half with more intensity and took the play to the Panthers. Despite their higher level of play, Nease was able to score twice and put St. Augustine away. Second half goals came from Ashley Hurley and Erin Hoover with an assist from Ensley Whidby. Nease's overall record now stands at 5-2-1 and 4-0 in District play. St. Augustine falls to 3-4-2. The Panther's next game is this Thursday at home against Episcopal at 7:20 p.m.
Thursday, December 4
Nease Edges Episcopal
In a back and forth battle the Nease Panthers prevailed over the Episcopal Eagles 1-0. Nease came out early, moving the ball well and getting some good looks at the goal. Then it was Episcopal's turn and they controlled play. At half-time the score was still 0-0. At the start of the second half, Nease came out with new found determination and a quicker more effective attack. They created more opportunities and at about the mid point in the second half the Panthers capitalized when Maddie Leon sent a ball into the box that Lauren Crossan poked in with a sliding kick. Nease held on the rest of the way with Natalie Gillespie coming up with some great saves to lock up the victory.
The Panthers record stands at 6-2-1. Since the loss to Bishop Kenny, the team has reeled off 5 straight wins. All have been shutouts. Nease takes on Bolles this Saturday away at 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, December 6
Nease Defeats Bolles
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in dealing Bolles their first defeat of the season, 3-0. Nikki Lombardo started off the scoring for the Panthers at about 15 minutes into the match when Maddie Leon passed a ball out to her from the box that she ran into and was able to chip over the goalies head and into the net. Maddie picked up the second goal for Nease about 25 minutes in on a pass from Jamie Silverberg. Jamie completed scoring for the Panthers with about 8 minutes left in the first half when she scored on a direct kick.
The Panthers have now won six straight, all six by shutout. Their record is 7-2-1. The next game is Monday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. away at Atlantic High School.
Monday, December 8
Panthers Over Atlantic, Again
The Panthers beat Atlantic HS, 6-0. With the victory, Nease captured their first season series winning both of this year's District matches against Atlantic by identical 6-0 scores. Goals for the Panthers came from Brittany Hawkins (2), Kristen Hoover (2) and Meghan Thomas (2).
The Panthers overall record stands at 8-2-1 with a District mark of 5-0. The next game is this Saturday at home at 2:00 p.m. against undefeated Seabreeze.
The significance of this game will not be lost on the team. The last time Nease played Seabreeze was the playoff game last season which the Panthers lost in penalty kicks..... the game that denied Nease a chance to repeat as State Champions.
Sunday, December 14
Nease Loses a Close One
The Panthers lost their first district match of the season to Seabreeze 3-2. In a game that could have gone either way, the Panthers came out on the short end. Seabreeze's Lindsay Brauer gave Seabreeze the early lead when she put in a goal in the first minute of play. Nease equalized halfway through the first half when Meredith Ringheisen capitalized on direct kick opportunity from about 25 yards out, curving the ball perfectly into the upper left corner of the goal. The score remained tied 1-1 at halftime. Nease came out attacking in the second half and was on top for the first time when Kristen Hoover finished off a Ringheisen cross into the box. The Panthers couldn't maintain that momentum and unfortunately Seabreeze was able to counter when Tiffany Urquhart tied the game for the Sandcrabs with 23 minutes to go. Urquhart scored the game-winner for Seabreeze about 12 minutes later putting the Crabs on top to stay.
The Panthers overall record stands at 8-3-1 with a District mark of 5-1. Their next game will be at the Michelle Akar's Tournament next Friday the 19th at 7:00 p.m. vs. Boca Raton. The game site is Winter Springs HS. Directions can be found under the 'Field Locations' link on the left.
Saturday, December 20
Nease Opens Akers Tourney With a Win
The Panthers began the 2003 Michelle Akers tournament with victory stopping the Boca Raton Bobcats, 4-1. Nease came out pumped with tons of energy and enthusiasm and got on the board early when Nikki Lombardo dished off a pass to Meredith Ringheisen who juked past the last Bobcat defender and rocketed a low ball to the right post past the diving Boca keeper. Nikki carried the momentum forward taking a pass from Kristen Hoover and scoring putting the Panthers up 2-0. It was Nikki again putting the ball in the back of the net this time off a Maddie Leon corner kick. Nease carried that 3-0 score into the half. Lauren Crossan capped off scoring for the Panthers getting a pass from Nikki, beating the last defender and then finishing it off with a low shot to the corner. Boca scored a late goal making the final score 4-1.
The Panthers next game is Saturday against Edgewater High School, the penalty-shot victor in the earlier 5:00 p.m. game over Winter Springs. The game site is again Winter Springs High and game time is 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, December 21
Nease Tops Edgewater in Game 2 of Akers Tourney
In game two at the Michelle Akers Classic it was Nease over Edgewater High School from Orlando, 1-0. Meredith Ringheisen scored the lone goal for the Panthers assisted by Nikki Lombardo. With the victory over Edgewater, the Panthers advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.
The Panthers overall record stands at 10-3-1. Their next game is Monday when play resumes in the Michelle Akers Tournament. Their opponent will be nationally-ranked number 4 Winter Park High School. The game site is Lake Mary HS in Orlando and the time is 7:00 p.m. A map and directions can be under the 'Field Locations' link on the left side of this page.

Nease Loses In PK's
Nease lost to nationally-ranked number 4 Winter Park in penalty kicks last night. The Panthers played some of their best soccer of the season and battled Winter Park from the opening whistle. The teams fought evenly through the first 40 minutes and went into half-time tied 0-0. Winter Park started the scoring a third of the way through the second half when one of the WP attackers broke through and skimmed a lofted shot just under the crossbar. Nease stormed back into the game and tied it 1-1 on a slotted pass from Nikki Lombardo to Lauren Crossan. Lauren took Nikki's pass and quickly closed the space between her and the goal, gaining a step on the Winter Park defender and then capping the run with a left-footed rocket to the far post past diving Winter Park keeper Jena Uvalle. The Panthers attacked with a vengence after the score and had the better of the play for much of the second half. The game ended tied in regulation and went immediately to penalty kicks where Nease came up short. Ironically, Nease defeated this same Winter Park team in penalty kicks last year to get into the finals.
Nease may have lost the game but this young team may have found something far more important in the process. Something they have been searching for the entire season, their identity, who they are as a team and what they are capable of doing when they lay it all out there. These girls outplayed nationally-ranked Winter Park and gave them their toughest game of the season. Here is a quote from the Orlando Sentinel article on the game, "This by far is the best team we have played in this tournament," Winter Park Coach Anthony Brenner said. "We really were not prepared to play a team of this caliber."
No one is happy after a loss, right?

Nease Takes Third Place at Akers
Nease defeated district foe Seabreeze 3-0 avenging the 3-2 defeat to them earlier this season. Nease scoring began with a replay of the first Seabreeze game, a patented Meredith Ringheisen direct kick that ripped into the upper 90 knuckling, dipping and weaving so much along the way, it was unstoppable. Nease's second goal came from Lauren Crossan when she made a back post run to finish off Nikki Lombardo's cross making the score 2-0 going into the half. Maddie Leon capped off the scoring when she lofted a long range shot that snuck under the crossbar past the leaping Seabreeze keeper.
With the victory, the Panthers take third place in this most prestigious Florida high school tournament that brought together the best girls high school teams from around the state. As they have all tournament long, the team played tenacious defense, were strong in the midfield and were dangerous on the attack. Player for player, everyone has raised the level of their game. Most importantly, this 2003-2004 Nease team began to believe in themselves, and began to realize the powerful things they could accomplish by working together and believing in one another. What a difference a couple of weeks can make!
Thanks to our coaches who made it possible for us to go to this tournament in the first place, for teaching the team the skills they need to compete and for carefully guiding the team as they grow together.
Happy Holidays!

Nease Romps Over Palatka
Almost everything about this game against Palatka was as usual, Nease won, the game took only 40 minutes, it was cold, the people there were warm and friendly, all the same except for one thing.... this time Palatka scored a goal! Final score, 9-1. Nease goals came from Nikki Lombardo (2), Lauren Crossan, Ashley Delaney, Ali Greene, Lauren Groves, Jamie Silverberg and Ensley Whidby.
Up next, Seabreeze this Saturday away in Daytona at 12:00 p.m.

Seabreeze Over Nease
It was only a couple of weeks ago that the Panthers defeated Seabreeze 3-0 in the Michelle Akers Tournament. But on a cold, overcast and windy day at Memorial Field in Daytona, the Sandcrabs turned the tables as the Panthers fell to the team that is quickly becoming their nemesis, 1-0. University of Tennessee bound Lindsay Brauer scored the only goal for Seabreeze. Ironically, it was the first time since last years regional tournament loss to Seabreeze that the Panthers were held scoreless. The Panthers have one last District game next Tuesday against St. Augustine. Today's loss knocked Nease out of any chance to finish in first place in the district regular season standings.
Wednesday, January 14
Nease Tops St. Augustine
The Panthers shut out St. Augustine in their final district game, 5-0. Panther goals came from Maddie Leon, Nikki Lombardo, Kristen Ruffell and Meagan Thomas. One of the Nease goals was an own goal. Mixed Results For Nease Girls at Tournament
Nease started out the QoK tournament with a tough loss in penalty kicks to highly ranked Deland. The game ended 0-0 in regulation. The unfortunate early loss meant the best Nease could hope for was a fifth place finish. Their second game at 9:00 a.m. Saturday produced a better result with the Panthers coming out on top of Flagler Palm Coast, 4-1. Maddie Leon, Ashley Hurley, Ashley Delaney and Nikki Lombardo scored in the game for Nease. Nease was pitted against local foe Episcopal in the game for fifth place. The game ended in a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. Ashley Delaney scored the lone goal for Nease. For the second time in 24 hours, the Panthers came out on the short end of a penalty kick ending losing out to Episcopal and ending up in sixth place.
fyi: According to FSHHA rules a game that ends tied in reegulation and is completed by penalty kicks counts as a tie in the team won/loss record.
Wednesday, January 21
Nease and Fletcher Tie
The Panthers battled one-defeated Fletcher to a 0-0 draw last night at Jack Taylor Stadium in Neptune Beach. Fletcher had some chances but for the most part it was Nease that controlled the tempo of the match, had the edge in possession and had more and better scoring chances. Meagan Thomas saved a goal on a big second-half play where the ball got behind Natalie Gillespie and Meagan came in to sweep it off the goal line right in front of the goal mouth.
Wednesday, January 28
Nease Begins Tournament Play With a Win
The Panther's started their 2003-2004 playoff journey with a convincing 3-0 semi-final victory over St. Augustine. Nease came ready to play tonight. Less than 3 minutes in, the Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Meagan Thomas sent a ball up to Lauren Crossan who outran the St. Augustine defenders and pounded the ball past the Yellow Jacket keeper. About a minute and half later, Crossan did it again this time taking a feed from Nikki Lombardo all the way to goal, making it 2-0. Jamie Silverberg capped off scoring for Nease when she picked up a ball sent into the box by Crossan and slammed it home.
St. Augustine played with alot of grit and determination and never gave up keeping the score 3-0 to the end. They are a talented group and SAHS should be proud of them.
With the win Nease advances to the district final this Friday against Seabreeze.
Saturday, January 31
Seabreeze Captures District Crown
Seabreeze scored early in the first half and held on tenaciously to take the victory and the title. They made that one goal lead stand up for most of the entire match until they scored their second with just seconds left. The final score was 2-0.
Seabreeze started out of the gate prepared to play and to win. They were playing faster and with more intensity than in any game against Nease this year. They were able to capitalize on that edge when Lindsay Brauer put Seabreeze ahead barely 7 minutes into the game. Nease up'd their level and countered quickly. Several runs of their own came tantalizingly close and some great passes into the box went unfinished. On a couple of occasions, balls were knocking around the box but not into the goal. Unlucky perhaps, but frustrating nonetheless. Give the other team some credit. The Seabreeze defense also seemed to be able to step up and take it to another level when they needed to. Natalie Gillespie kept Nease in the game with some great point-blank reaction type saves.
The second half continued with more of the same physical, high-intensity, back and forth action. Opportunities were there equally for both teams. Gillespie was there again with a huge stuff of Lindsay Brauer on a breakaway. Nease chances again came oh-so-close. It wasn't until the final seconds of the match that Seabreeze scored their second goal on a long direct kick placed high into the upper 90.
For the first time in six years, Nease is not the champion of their district. That honor goes to Seabreeze who has not won a district title since 1999-2000. That year they were state runner-up. Both teams now advance to the regional tournament. Seabreeze is not some flash-in-the-pan overnight success though. In its 14 years playing competitive high school girls soccer, they have never failed to advance to regional play. Of course, Nease has its own tradition of winning going back to the days of Kat Casey, Ali Mims and Lydia Sturgis.
Now that district play has completed, we know the team we will be matched up against. Nease will be taking on Titusville, 4-0 winners over Astronaut HS last night and champions of District 8-4A. The official FSHAA Championship game bracket will be released on the FSHAA website Saturday evening showing all the quarterfinal matchups.
Game date and time for the Nease/Titusville Regional tournament quarterfinals – 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 5. Site should be Titusville HS but the official announcement will follow.
Thursday, February 5
Meredith Ringeisen Inks with Western Kentucky
Nease senior and four year starter Meredith Ringeisen has signed a letter of intent to play at Western Kentucky University. She will join former Panther Jenna Silverberg who signed with WKU last year and had a great freshman year. Jenna set a new WKU single-season scoring record for goals.
Congratulations to Meredith and her family!
Wednesday, February 11
Nease Season Ended by Titusville
The Panthers ended their post season as they were eliminated in the regional quarterfinals by Titusville 1 - 0.
The final tally this season, Nease won 16, lost 6 and tied 5 and the team recorded 12 shutouts. The team made it out of their district and into the regional playoffs for the 6th straight year.
Thanks for a great season!
