Friday, November 5
Nease Tops Spruce Creek
Nease defeated the Spruce Creek Hawks 2 - 1 in the first game of the Lady Bulldog Pre-Season Classic at Flagler Palm Coast High School. Nease was down 1 - 0 at the half and stormed back to capture the contest. Nikki Lombardo notched both goals for the Panthers with Jamie Silverberg and Erin Hoover assisting.

Nease complete play in the tournament when they take on the Pine Ridge HS Panthers on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in their final pre-season game.

Nease Over Pine Ridge
The Panthers topped the Panthers from Pine Ridge 2 - 0 to end the pre-season with a perfect 2 - 0 record. The season gets underway on Tuesday when the team meets county rival Bartram Trail.

Nease Wins Season Opener
The 2004-2005 season kicked off on a high note as the Nease Panthers shut out county-rival Bartram Trail, 4 - 0. The Bears came out with alot of intensity but the Panthers weathered the storm and patiently took control of the game. Nease took a 1 - 0 lead into the half when Nikki Lombardo scored assisted by Lauren Crossan.

The second half was all Nease as Bartram was not able to mount an effective attack. Dani Nelson scored twice and Landy Daniels added another. Jamie Silverberg, Maddie Leon and Lauren Crossan had second half assists. Natalie Gillespie came up with some big first half saves and aided by solid defense, pitched the shutout.

The next game is our home opener this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. versus Chiles HS. Nease JV will play the early game versus Chiles JV at 5:00 p.m.

Thursday, November 11
Nease Chides Chiles
The Panthers won their second game of the season topping Chiles High School from Tallahassee, 4 - 1. Chiles came out quickly and scored the first goal within the first two minutes. Back on their heels, Nease responded by methodically taking control of the game. The Panther's evened the match off a crisp cross into the box from Jamie Silverberg that Maddie Leon one-touched past the Chiles keeper. Nease took the lead when Nicole Eckensberger slipped a pass to Nikki Lombardo at the top of the 18 and Nikki dribbled through the offsides-trapping defensive line where she beat the keeper with a low shot to the right. Nease took a 2 - 1 lead into halftime. The second half was a repeat of Nease dominance. Maddie Leon layed off a pass to Jamie Silverberg who took a shot from the left corner just outside the 18 that went over the keepers head and into the far corner of the goal. Nease completed scoring when Brittany Hawkins took a pass from Maddie Leon to the left of the goal and shot it past the Chiles goalie.

The next game is on the road this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against Satellite High School. The JV plays at noon.

IMPORTANT!!!
The game will be played at Florida Tech instead of Satellite. There is a map under 'Field Locations'. Here are directions:

- 95 South to Exit 180, US 192 (Past Cocoa and before Palm Bay)
- Go East on 192 to Babcock (almost 8 miles)
- Turn right (South) on Babcock to University
- Go West on University (right)
- The soccer field is on the left behind the gym and next to baseball field in the very back.

Sunday, November 14
Nease Dropped by Satellite
State powerhouse Satellite High School got a goal in the first 5 minutes and never looked back handing the Panthers their first loss of the season 4 - 0.

Tuesday, November 16
Nease Takes First District Game 5 - 0
Nease won their first district game of the season beating the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets, 5 - 0. Nease dominated play from the outset. Scoring began when Kristen Hoover took a pass from Brittany Hawkins, dribbled around the St. Augustine defender and shot just inside the left post. Kristen scored again shortly after on a breakaway when she ran onto a flicked pass from Lauren Crossan, raced downfield and finished it off. Crossan scored the third goal for Nease on a shot that hit off the Yellow Jacket keeper into the goal. The action in the second half was a continuation of the first as Crossan took a shot that hit off a St. Augustine player's hands in the box. Nicole Eckensberger finished the ensuing PK making the score 4 - 0. Lauren Groves capped scoring for the Panthers on another breakaway taking a pass from Hawkins and outracing the last St. Augustine defender.

Natalie Gillespie recorded her 4th shutout of the season.

The JV won their game versus St. Augustine 8 - 0.

The next varsity game is Thursday at home against Flagler HS at 7:00 p.m.

Friday, November 19
Panthers Nip Flagler, 3 - 2
The Nease Panthers held off Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs and came away with the victory 3 - 2. It was Flagler's first loss of the season after a 4 - 0 start.

Nease took the lead in the first half when Lauren Crossan re-directed Kristen Hoover's pass across the goal mouth into the net. That lead didn't hold up as Flagler striker Chloe Cowart put one in the net to tie the game 1 - 1 before the half ended. Nease took a 2 - 1 lead early in the second half when a Crossan shot rebounded off the keeper and Kristen Hoover was there to pound it into the goal. The Panthers picked up their third goal off a Maddie Leon corner kick that Ashley Hurley headed and Brittany Hawkins finished. The 3 - 1 lead was cut to 3 - 2 when midfielder Mandy Drummond scored for the Bulldogs. That goal made for some tense moments as the Flagler attacked trying to get the equalizer and the Nease defense successfully fought the attacks off.

Nease's record now stands at 4 - 1.

The Nease JV won their game 3 - 0.

The next game is this Saturday at noon away against St. Johns Country Day. Directions to the field are below. A map to the field can be found by clicking on 'Field Locations' and selecting St. Johns Country Day.

Saturday, November 20
Nease and St. Johns Country Day Knotted, 2 - 2
The St. Johns Country Day Spartans were able to withstand a furious second half onslaught and held on to tie Nease, 2 - 2. The Spartans were the recipients of two referee-assisted first half goals, one a questionable call in the box resulting in a penalty kick and the other where the line judge called that a ball seemingly saved by Natelie Gillespie had actually crossed the goal line. That quickly put Nease down 2 - 0. Nease came back scoring on a penalty kick of their own courtesy of another interesting call by the referee, that one finished off by Nicole Eckensberger. The teams went into halftime with Nease trailing 2 - 1. All in all, penalties excluded, the Spartans had the more effective attack in the first half. The second half was a different story especially in the final ten minutes when the Spartans seemed to wilt and Nease had countless, oh-so-close chances. The Panthers evened the score midway through the second half when Lauren Crossan was able to beat her defender and turn the corner on the right side. She dribbled the ball along the end line and then dished off a pass to a charging Ashley Delaney who netted it for Nease's second goal.

The Panther's next game is away against Pedro Menendez on Tuesday, November 23rd at 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday, November 24
Nease 6, Pedro 0
The Panthers had little trouble with Pedro Menendez prevailing, 6 - 0. Once the team got it working they never looked back. Brittany Hawkins led the way for Nease scoring three times for her first high school hat trick. Also scoring for Nease were Lauren Crossan (2) and Kristen Hoover. Megan Thomas, Nicole Eckensberger, Andrea Bodniowycz, Nikki Lombardo and Ashley Hurley added assists.

You have to admire Menendez. They competed until the final whistle and never gave up.

The half-time score was 4 - 0. Nease's record now stands at 5 - 1 - 1.

The Nease JV topped Pedro 8 - 0.

IMPORTANT! The time for the next varsity game against Seabreeze on Monday has changed from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The location is still being determined. As soon as the final decision is made it will be communicated to the team and parents, so stay tuned. I also heard unofficially that there will be practice held this Saturday.

The Nease JV will be playing Bishop Kenny on Monday.

Saturday, November 27
Nease versus Seabreeze Monday at 5:00 p.m.
The Panthers take on Seabreeze in an early game on Monday at 5:00 p.m. Important..... the game will take place at Daytona Municipal Stadium, not at Seabreeze High School.

Directions; take I-95 to the LPGA Boulevard exit, exit 265. Go right (west). The stadium is 3 - 4 miles on the left.

This is a Mapquest map showing the intersection of LPGA Boulevard and I-95 at exit 265. If you follow LPGA Blvd west by zooming out or navigating the map using the arrows at the bottom you'll see Municipal Stadium to the southwest of the intersection.

Tuesday, November 30
This One Felt Good..... Very Good
Well, what a difference a year makes!

NEASE - 5
SEABREEZE -0

The veteran Panther players have been waiting a long time for this game. The last time these two teams met was last January, the 31st to be exact, when Seabreeze defeated Nease 2 - 0 for the district title. Except for the win in the Akers Tournament, Seabreeze seemed to have our number last year, winning frustratingly close games each and every time when it mattered by scores of 2-0, 1-0 and 3-2. Things were different tonight, very different!

Goal scoring for the Panthers was distributed evenly among 5 different players. Lauren Crossan got it going for Nease when she picked off an bad defensive clearance at the 18 and shot a ground-hugging lasar past the frozen Seabreeze keeper. The Panthers took that 1 - 0 lead into the half. The second half was just a flood of Panther goals from Ashley Hurley off a Maddie Leon corner, Kristen Hoover off a lofted pass from Ashley Hurley, Ashley Delaney off a pass into to box from Kristen Hoover and Brittany Hawkins off a cross from Lauren Crossan. The Nease defense and Natalie Gillespie broke the back of the Sandcrabs, keeping them out of the game and off the scoreboard and in the process earning their 4th shutout of the season.

Nease is now 6 - 1 - 1 overall and 3 - 0 and in first place in the district. Next up is Atlantic at home with another 5:00 p.m. early start time.

GO PANTHERS!

Wednesday, December 1
Nease Takes Atlantic
The Panthers won their 4th district game without a loss as they beat Port Orange Atlantic High School, 8 - 0. The score at halftime was 6 - 0.

Nease scoring came from freshman Stacey Hanburry, who picked up her first two high school goals. Megan Thomas added two and Nicole Eckensberger, Andrea Bodniowycz, Jamie Silverberg and Nikki Lombardo each had a goal. Assists came from Nicole Eckensberger who had two, Andrea Bodniowycz and Maddie Leon.

Natalie Gillespie shared goalkeeping duties with Lauren Groves as Nease picked up their 5th shutout in 8 games.

The next game is Tuesday December 11th at home at 7:00 p.m. against Bishop Kenny.

Wednesday, December 8
Nease Avenges Another
Last season's Nease team lost close games to Chiles, Seabreeze and Bishop Kenny. Most of those games they probably could have won. This team is finding a way to get it done and put good teams away.

The Panthers dominated possession against BK, had more shots and more good opportunities. Still, the score was tied 0 - 0 and BK was in the game well into the second half. Kenny's only real challenges were a few shots from well outside the goal. One ripped shot especially required Natellie Gillespie to make an outstanding diving save. Nease finally broke through on a Jamie Silverberg pass from the left side into a waiting Maddie Leon who slotted it into the net making it 1 - 0. The Panthers finished off BK late in the game when they scored their second goal.   Lauren Crossan dribbled into the right corner, shielding the ball to kill off time. She broke free from her two defenders and made a left-footed cross into Nikki Lombardo who sealed the win for Nease.

Natelie Gillespie and the Nease defense recorded their 6th shutout of the season.

The Panthers are now 8 - 1 - 1.

The next game is at home this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. against Pedro Menendez.

The Nease JV beat the Bishop Kenny JV for the second time this season, also by a score of 2 - 0.

Read the Times Union article on the game by Brian Kosoy.

Thursday, December 9
Nease Tops Pedro
The Panthers made quick work of the Menendez Falcons scoring 8 unanswered goals in a mercy-rule shortened match. Jamie Silverberg led the Nease attack putting 3 shots behind the Falcon keeper. Brittany Hawkins added 2 goals with Lauren Crossan, Ashley Hurley and Stacey Hanburry rounding out the scoring table for the night. Nikki Lombardo contributed 2 assists, Crossan added 2, Hanburry had 1, as did Kristen Hoover, Alisha Barrett and Megan Thomas.

Natalie Gillespie and the Nease defense recorded their 7th shutout of the season.

Nease's record is now 9 - 1 - 1.

The Nease JV defeated the Menendez JV alo by a score of 8 - 0. Their record is now 10 - 0.

IMPORTANT! The time for Saturday's varsity home game against Bolles has been changed from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. The JV game has been changed to 10:00 a.m. Concession coverage of the JV game for varsity parents begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Nease at the Top in First Statewide Poll
The Nease Panthers topped the Class 4A rankings in the first statewide poll released today by the Florida Sports Writers Association. It’s nice to see the team recognized but it's very early in the season. Much more unfinished work lies ahead but this is a great beginning!

Saturday, December 11
Panthers 3, Bulldogs 0
What a beautiful afternoon for a soccer match! A varsity win would only make it better and the Panthers didn't disappoint. They dominated the Bolles Bulldogs, 3 - 0. Nease had 26 shots on goal to 11 for Bolles.

Scoring for Nease started about halfway through the first half when Lauren Crossan was tripped in the box by the Bolles keeper. Nicole Eckensberger made the ensuing penalty kick putting Nease ahead, 1 - 0. Nease scored again before the break when Maddie Leon took a pass that came in from Jamie Silverberg on the left side, dribbled a few steps and then slotted a clean shot past the diving keeper. In the second half Bolles had a few more ventures into Nease territory and more shots than the first half but Nease still clearly dominated play and possessed the ball. The Panthers snuffed out any hope of a Bolles comeback when Silverberg slotted a perfect pass between the last two defenders that Crossan took to goal beating the keeper and
putting the game away.

For those of you interested in stats, this was Nease's 6th straight shutout and 8th of the year. The team hasn't been scored on since November 20th.

The next game is Tuesday, December 14th at 7:00PM at home versus Palatka.

The Nease JV topped Bolles also by a score of 3 - 0.

Wednesday, December 15
Nease Wins 11th
It was the first really cold night of the season but the cold weather didn't slow us down as Nease won over Palatka 8 - 0 in a mercy-rule shortened match. The Panthers brought up 4 JV players for the game, Lauren Pizzo, Christina Dos Santos, Casey Eckstein and Lanie Sahs. Palatka played hard but 8 goals went past their keeper before half time. Scoring for Nease were Stacey Hanburry who had 3 goals for her first high school hat trick. Ashley Hurley had 2 goals and an assist. Ashley Delaney also had 2 goals and freshman Lanie Sahs added her first varsity goal. Brittany Hawkins and Christina Dos Santos also had assists. Maddie Leon played goal and recorded the shutout.

The next Nease game is this Friday at 7:00 pm. at Lake Howell High School for the Michelle Akers Tournament.

Directions to the hotel and to the field from the hotel should be emailed today. I have done Mapquest from Ponte Vedra to Lake Howell High School. The directions and a Yahoo Map can be found by clicking 'Field Locations' and scrolling down to Lake Howell. (Clicking on the blue compass star opens up the map page.)

Friday, December 17
Nease Begins Tournament with a Win
The Nease Panthers began play in the Michelle Aker's Tournament with a 3 - 0 win over Lake Howell High School. Nikki Lombardo had 2 goals to lead the Panthers. Nicole Eckensberger added another. Jamie Silverberg had 2 assists.

The next game is tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. when the Panthers take on 5A power Satellite High School.

Saturday, December 18
Nease HUGE Over Satellite
The Nease Panthers have won 12 games this season, they won 16 games in total last season. It is arguable that no win in the last 2 years has been more important to this program than this win.

Nease beat 5A perennial power Satellite High School this afternoon. The win was in penalty kicks after a scoreless regular time match. Nease didn't miss a kick, Natellie Gillespie saved two, end of story. Nikki Lombardo, Nicole Eckensberger, Erin Hoover and Megan Thomas converted for the Panthers.

What happened in regulation, how the defense held off countless Satellite attacks, how we had several opportunities to win the game outright, that is the story. These players won by pulling together. That bodes well for the remainder of the tournament and the season.

The team can finish no worse that 4th and could play in the championship game if they win tonight.

Nease plays next tonight at 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, December 19
Nease Title Hopes Ended
The Nease Panthers hopes for their first Michelle Akers Tournament crown came to an end as they were frustrated by Edgewater High School 1 - 0. The game was not without controversy. On a shot that appeared saved by Natalie Gillespie, the linesman ruled that the ball had crossed the goal line for the only goal of the game. That goal gave Edgewater all they needed and advanced them to the finals.   The Panthers play for third place on Monday evening.

Monday, December 20
Nease Beats Winter Park to Get Third Place
Nease completed competition in the Michelle Akers Tournament with another big win over a strong team. This time it was a win in penalty kicks over Winter Park, nationally ranked # 10 in the Student Sports FAB 50 poll. Saturday Nease defeated Satellite High School, ranked # 19 in the same national poll.

After a scoreless first half, Maddie Leon got Nease on the board heading in a pass into the box from Kristen Hoover. Jamie Silverberg made it 2 - 0 when she capped off a run in from the left with a curving shot that went in just inside the far post. Winter Park staged a comeback in the final 20 minutes and the game finished in regulation tied 2 - 2. Dani Nelson, Erin Hoover, Megan Thomas, Nicole Eckensberger lined up to take the penalty kicks for Nease. Dani took the first shot for the Panthers and it was saved by the Winter Park keeper. It was followed by a miss from Winter Park. The 2 teams traded goals the rest of the way ending the first round tied 4 - 4 in made shots. Five new shooters were selected for Nease. Natalie Gillespie was up first for the Panthers. She made her shot. She then traded spots and got into position to defend the Winter Park shot. Defend it she did, stopping their final try and winning the game for Nease.

An interesting little historical note; If this story sounds like deja vu.... well, you're onto something. For the third year in a row, Nease has played Winter Park with the game coming down to penalty kicks. In 2002, Nease won, in 2003 it was Winter Park that came out on top and this year the Panthers took it.

Tuesday, December 21
Gillespie and Erin Hoover Named All-Tournament
Natalie Gillespie and Erin Hoover were named to the Michelle Akers Classic All-Tournament team. Congratulations to both players and to the team for their superb effort!

Joining Gillespie and Hoover on the all-tournament team were forwards Ebony Robinson (Winter Park), Rose Dooley (Spruce Creek), and Yvonne George (Winter Springs); midfielders Ella Stephan (Satellite Beach), Katie Arnheim and Lindsey Topetcher (Edgewater); defenders Donnellan (Lake Mary), Anna Chase (Winter Park); and coaches' choice Alex Billeter (Bishop Moore).

Satellite freshman forward Katie Jackson was named the tournament's offensive most valuable player while the defensive most valuable player honors went to Lake Mary sophomore defender Rachel Brown.

In the finals last night it was Edgewater over Lake Mary, 1 - 0. Edgewater scored the winning goal halfway through the second sudden death overtime.

Tuesday, January 4
Nease Begins Second Half of Season With a Win
The Nease Panthers picked up where they left off with a convincing 4-1 win over Buchholz High School. The match was 0-0 at halftime. After the break Nikki Lombardo got things going for the Panthers when she got a ball from Nicole Eckensberger and shot it over the Buchholz keeper. Buchholz scored next knotting the game 1-1 but it was all Nease from there on in. Lauren Groves put the Panthers up 2-1 when she picked up a Lauren Crossan cross that ricocheted off a Buchholz defender and deftly left-footed a long shot into the goal. Kristen Hoover scored next off a pass into the box by Andrea Bodniowycz. Megan Thomas finished up the scoring when she headed in a corner kick from Crossan.

Nease JV beat the Buchholz JV 8 - 0 to remain undefeated.

Next game is away versus St. Augustine on Thursday.

Friday, January 7
Nease Stings Jackets 6 - 1
An improved St. Augustine Yellowjacket team was no match for the Panthers last night with Nease winning again easily, 6 - 1. Nease dominated from the opening whistle and put on an impressive offensive display scoring 3 first half goals off headers. Defensively, the Panthers were able to shut down St. Augustine's corp of quick, young attacking players.

Nease scoring started off when Ashley Hurley netted a pass from Andrea Bodniowycz. The next two Nease goals were carbon copies with Nicole Eckensberger heading in 2 successive Lauren Crossan corner kicks. Nikki Lombardo completed the first half air assault when she headed in a cross from Jamie Silverberg. The first half score was 4 - 0.

Nease continued the assault in the second half came when Jamie Silverberg slotted a perfect diagonal through-ball to Crossan who ran away from the Yellowjacket defenders to score goal number five for Nease. Brittany Hawkins made it six for the Panthers when she found a pretty pass from Kristen Hoover inside the 18 and pounded it home.

The Panthers are now 7 - 0 in district play.

The next game is Saturday at home against Seabreeze. Game begins at noon.

The Nease JV defeated St. Augustine 8 - 0 to remain unbeaten. Lanie Sahs was called up from JV to varsity.   Congratulations to Lanie!

Saturday, January 8
Nease Completes Seabreeze Sweep
What a great day for a game! Sunny and warm and the Panthers completed the picture with an easy win over district rival and former nemesis, those Sandcrabs of Seabreeze. Final score, Nease 7, Seabreeze 1.

Early on, it was clear that it was going to be all Panthers. In what is becoming a habit, Nease again scored off a set piece corner kick, the first when a Lauren Crossan corner glanced off a Seabreeze player and into the net for the Panther's first goal and the second on a Crossan to Nicole Eckensberger combo.

The rest of the goals were scored in the run of play. The team was connecting well in the attacking end and with so many players involved the team is difficult to defend against.

Rounding out the scoring for Nease were Brittany Hawkins, who picked up 2 goals, Ashley Delaney, Ashley Hurley and Andrea Bodniowycz who each had one. Kristen Hoover, Ashley Hurley, Jamie Silverberg, Lauren Crossan, Nikki Lombardo and Lanie Sahs each added an assist.

The JV continued to dominate their competition beating the Seabreeze JV, 8 - 0 in a game that was over by halftime. Their record is now 14 - 0.

The next game for the Nease varsity is away on Tuesday, January 11th at 7:00 p.m. The JV plays at 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday, January 11
Nease Whips Palatka 11 - 0
It took about five minutes for Nease to score their first goal tonight. That was by far the longest span in the entire game without a goal being scored by the Panthers. If you blinked you risked missing a goal. The final score was Nease 11, Palatka 0.

Ensley Whidby led the way for the Panthers tonight picking up 2 goals and an assist. Alysha Barratt assisted on Whidby's first goal and Lauren Groves on her second. Other Nease goal were from Maddie Leon unassisted, Erin Hoover assisted by Nikki Lombardo, Ashley Hurley unassisted, Alysha Barratt assisted by Lanie Sahs, Lanie Sahs assisted by Ashley Delaney, Dani Nelson unassisted, Ali Green assisted by Whidby, Meagan Thomas unassisted, and Stacey Hanburry unassisted.

The Nease varsity play their final district game of the season away at Atlantic High School in Port Orange at 7:00 p.m.

Nease is now 9 - 0 in the District.

Our overall won-loss record is 18W - 2L - 1T if you count the Satellite and Winter Park games as wins, which obviously they were. Florida High School rules however say that games that end in regulation as ties and are won or lost in penalty kicks count as ties in your record. That would make our record 16W - 2L - 3T.

The Nease JV won their game, 5 - 0 and their record is now 15 - 0 on the season. The Nease JV game scheduled for this Friday has been reschduled to next Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday, January 11

Panthers Swamp Atlantic
The Panthers made the long, rainy road trip to Daytona worth it as they came away with an easy win over Atlantic High School, 9 - 1.

Two Panthers players recorded hat tricks on the night with Ashley Hurley and Maddie Leon each recording a treble. Lauren Crossan added 2 and Erin Hoover added another to round out the scoring table for Nease. Jamie Silverberg notched 2 assists with Crossan, Brittany Hawkins and Nicole Eckensberger each adding a single assist.

With the victory Nease completes district play for the season in first place with a perfect 10 - 0 record.

Saturday, January 15

Tuesday, January 18
Nease Over Fletcher on Senior Night
Senior night is always a special night for Nease fans. Add in a game against long-time beaches rival Fletcher and even the cold weather couldn't spoil the fun. Nease scored early and they scored often. Final score, Nease 7, Fletcher 0 and the game wasn't that close!

Jamie Silverberg got things going for Nease when she scored off a pass from sophomore Brittany Hawkins. Ashley Hurley picked up the next Panther goal off a corner kick from Lauren Crossan that rebounded around the box and Hurley finished.   Nikki Lombardo picked up the next two Nease goals, the first on a long shot over the Fletcher keepers head and the second on a rebound that Lombardo finished off. Maddie Leon picked up the next goal off a pass into the box from Jamie Silverberg. Crossan had the next goal for the Panthers on another long well placed shot over the keepers head. Maddie Leon picked up her second goal and the final goal of the match when she headed in a screaming cross from Crossan.

The next game for Nease is the St. Johns River Conference Championship at home on Thursday versus Riverview High School.

Districts begin for Nease the following Wednesday.

The Nease JV continued their perfect season with a 5 - 0 win over the Fletcher JV. Their record is now 16 - 0.   The final JV game of the season is this Thursday against Bartram Trail at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, January 21
Nease Wins 1st River Conference Title
Nease captured their first conference title as they defeated the Ridgeview Panthers in the inaugural championship match of the St. Johns River Conference. Final score, Nease 3, Ridgeview 1.

In the first few minutes the game looked tight, then momentum swung Nease's way as they dominated possession. That lead to the first Nease goal from Ashley Hurley assisted by Dani Nelson. It looked like Nease might have an easy night until Ridgeview scored on a counter to even things at 1 - 1. That gave Ridgeview the inspiration they needed and they battled Nease closely into the second half. About halfway through the second half, Jamie Silverberg scored off a run down the left side assisted by Andrea Bodniowycz. Nikki Lombardo added the crusher for Nease assisted by Ashley Delaney and ended Ridgeview's hopes in the game.

The next Game for Nease will be in the district semi-finals next Wednesday evening at home. Tentative game time is 7:00 p.m.

The Nease JV tied Bartram Trail 2 - 2 in their final game to spoil their quest for a perfect season. Their final record was 16 - 0 - 1, not perfect but still undefeated!

The Nease Panthers made quick work of the overmatched Pedro Menendez Falcons winning a mercy-rule shortened match, 8-0.

Kristen Hoover led the way for the Panthers as she broke out for 3 goals, two assisted by Nikki Lombardo and the other by Ashley Delaney. Meagan Thomas got things going for Nease when she took a pass from Maddie Leon and ripped a low scorching shot from far outside past the diving Menendez keeper. Jamie Silverberg added the second for the Panthers on a pass from Brittany Hawkins. Maddie Leon got the third goal for Nease when she finished off a cross in from the right side from Lauren Crossan. Hoover's three goals followed in succession capping the scoring for the half at 6-0. Ashley Hurley picked up goal number 7 for Nease about five minutes into the second half when she got a slotted pass from Ensley Whidby and put it past the keeper. Crossan capped scoring for Nease about fifteen minutes into the second half when she took a slotted ball from Brittany Hawkins, dribbled into the box and slipped it under the keeper.

Nease Captures District Crown
Nease captured the 7-4A District Title last night at Pedro Menendez High School defeating the St. Augustine Yellowjackets, 2 - 0.

Nease dominated possession and shot count, holding the ball and attacking for most of the game. The Nease attack eventually wore down the bunkered-in St. Augustine defense, who were hoping to be able to send the ball up to one of their forwards on a counter-attack that never fully materialized despite the skill of some of the young Yellowjacket players. Nease had many, many opportunities of their own and despite their lack of success at putting the ball in the net, they eventually proved to be just too much for the St. Augustine team.

Nease got their first goal about halfway through the first half when Lauren Crossan drove a corner kick across to Ashley Hurley standing at the back corner of the goal box. Hurley hit it over to Jamie Silverberg who poked it in to put the Panthers on the scoreboard. The score at halftime was 1 - 0. About 15 minutes into the second half, Nease picked up their second goal when Ashley Hurley crossed a ball into Maddie Leon who slipped a shot into the far corner past the Yellowjacket keeper.

Natalie Gillespie and the Nease defense recorded their 15th shutout of the season.

Of the three results versus St. Augustine this year (5-0, 6-1 and 2-0), this was by far the closest in terms of final score. This team from St. Augustine has really come together this season and has a bright future. Congrats to their coaching staff and players and good luck in the State Tournament. We hope to meet you once again in the regional final.

Nease won their third district title in the last 4 years. We are very, very proud of what the team has accomplished so far. They know however, that they have taken the first step, and only the first step, on the long hard road that leads to a State Championship. They are happy to win, but not satisfied. There's still plenty of work ahead. It should be fun to watch!

The next game for Nease is the Regional Quarterfinal to be held at Nease on Thursday, February 3rd at 7:00 p.m. We'll play the runner-up in the 8-4A District Championship match between Astronaut and Titusville. As soon as the results are known, we'll plass it on here.

GO PANTHERS!

Nease Defeats Astronaut, 1-0
The Nease Panthers won their biggest game in three years as they defeated the Astronaut Lady War Eagles, 1-0 to advance to the Class 4A Regional Semifinals. The Panthers had to battle through the misty, rainy weather and slick field conditions and controlled the game from the outset, gaining the advantage early and relentlessly attacking the entire match. Astronaut had their chances but they were few and not well organized. Their keeper made some fine saves to keep them in the game but it was only a matter of time before Nease connected. The Panthers kept us waiting on the edge of our seats for a little too long! With a little over 5 minutes left in the game, Nease was awarded a corner kick when Lauren Crossan's shot was deflected over the bar by the keeper. Crossan went to the left corner, set the ball and bent a perfect shot past the keeper and into the goal putting Nease on top!

The Panthers kept Astronaut off the scoreboard for the remaining 5 minutes to seal the outcome and their first Regional Tournament win since 2002.

Next up for Nease is Bishop Kenny who advanced to the Regional Semifinals with a win over Paxon. The game will be at Nease next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

GO PANTHERS!!!

Tuesday, February 8
Nease Advances to Regional Final with Win over BK!
The Nease Panthers continued their strong post-season run defeating the #2 ranked Bishop Kenny Crusaders 2-1 to advance to the Region 2 final this Friday. It was their second victory over Bishop Kenny this season.

Nease came out on fire! They quickly put Kenny back on their heels, scoring 2 goals within the first five minutes. The goals came from Dani Nelson assisted by Nikki Lombardo and then Lombardo assisted by Kristen Hoover. Nease dominated the half, but BK clawed back into the game getting a goal back toward the end of the half when a cross into the box jangled around and was knocked in. That made it 2-1, but that was as close as the Crusaders were going to get. Nease's first half dominance in possession continued throughout the second half. The Nease defense continued to frustrate both Bishop Kenny strikers, effectively shutting them down for the entire 80 minutes of the match. In the end, the Panthers outshot BK 15 to 5.

The Regional Final will be this Friday at 7:00 p.m. The opponent will be Titusville, 3-1 winners over Ridgeview in a game also held tonight. Nease will be travelling to Titusville for the game. The game will be held at DRAA field in Titusville.

The Nease Boys team won the district and will host the first round quarterfinal match against Rockledge on Thursday, February 10th at 7:00 p.m. Go on out and cheer the team on!

Nease Wins, Advances on to Final Four!
The Panthers traveled on the road to a familiar spot tonight, Draa Field in Titusville. Deja vu.... the same time of year, same field, the same players and teams, same tight matchup. The only thing different this time.... was everything! Read on!

Nease and Titusville battled back and forth for a full 80 minutes. There were great chances for Nease and equally great chances for Titusville. For Nease, the game seemed to turn on an unbelievable sequence of shots and saves by Nease's all-world keeper, Natalie Gillespie. In about a 5 second timeframe, Gillespie made three point blank shots and saves.   If not for those saves, there would have been no overtime and we would have been on the losing end like last year against this Titusville team. When regulation time ended, the score remained tied 0-0.

For about the 7 minutes of OT, it was more of the same punch counter-punch game action. Then, as the clock ticked down, Nikki Lombardo slotted the ball through to Jamie Silverberg, who slid it under the diving Titusville keeper for an unbelievable goal! After the ball had settled safely in the net, the Nease players charged onto the field in a frenzy of celebration only winning a game of this significance can produce. Panther fans in the stands went absolutely, out-of-their-mind crazy at going up 1-0! That was followed immediately by puzzlement and confusion at what was taking place on the field. Wasn't this supposed to be a full 10 minute overtime? There was still 3 minutes left in the game. Even the game announcer asked that the field be cleared so that the game could continue. What were the players still doing on the field and why were the Titusville players lying around in seeming agony? What was Dave doing on the field? Then as the referees began walking off the field the realization hit the Nease fans like a bolt of lightning.   It was Golden Goal! The game is over! Nease WINS, NEASE WINS! NEASE WINS! We're advancing to final four and this magical season continues! Ft. Lauderdale, here we come!!!

Nease's opponent in the State semi-finals will be Newsome High School from Tampa. The game will be next Wednesday, February 16th at noon at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale.

Nease Advances to 4A State Championship
Nease defeated Newsome High School 1-0 to advance to the 4A State Championship game for the first time since 2002.

Nease scored their only goal in the first half on a cross from Nikki Lombardo that Maddie Leon was able to head toward the goal. On the way, the ball hit off a Newsome defender and into the goal. Nease held Newsome off for the rest of the game to come away with the win.

Friday, February 18
NEASE WINS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!
The Nease Panthers captured the 4A State Championship with an exciting come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Chiles High School Timberwolves.

Chiles went out on top in the first half when senior Bree Dove scored for the Timberwolves. The score remained 1-0 at halftime. Nease got the equalizer shortly after the second half began. With her back to the goal, Lauren Crossan sky'd a ball into the box that glanced off the back of a Chiles defender's head over to Kristen Hoover. Hoover settled the ball and deftly slipped it under the Chiles keeper for the score. That quick score instantly changed the complexion of the game. Nease was on the attack and had Chiles back on their heels.

The game continued in regulation with Nease having the edge in scoring opportunities and possession but were unable to capitalize. Chiles was able to hold on and any attack they were able to mount was frustrated and contained by Nease defenders Erin Hoover, Nicole Eckensberger, Lauren Groves and Meagan Thomas. That group has consistently been able to shut down teams throughout the regular season and post season and tonight was no different. Despite the Nease dominance, when regulation play ended, the score was tied 1-1.

The score remained tied through the first 10 minute Golden Goal period and for about 9 minutes and 30 seconds of the second. That's when Nikki Lombardo slotted a perfect pass through to a breaking Lauren Crossan. Crossan raced downfield, angling toward the goal marked by two Chiles defenders. As she was making her run, Ashley Hurley saw what was happening and broke to the inside post. As Crossan neared the end line, she was able to get a pass over to Hurley who shot, then picked up her own rebound to tap it in for the game winner! Game, set, match, STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, NEASE PANTHERS!!!!!

What a season, what a magical season. 4A State Champions!    Nease's final 2004-2005 record, 28-2-1. 18 wins by shutout! A total team effort from beginning to end, with different players stepping up offensively and defensively each game and getting it done. One quality above all others defines this team. They simply refuse to lose. They find a way to win. They have battled through some very good teams this postseason. They had argueably the toughest road to the final 4. Many have also individually battled through injuries and illnesses. Through it all, they somehow continued to find a way to win and to win it all! Thanks for an incredibly great season!
