Occidental College's Barnaby Audsley Named as Honorable Mention All-American

NSCRO tips its hat to Barnaby Audsley, Occidental College's standout flyhalf on his selection as a 2013 USA Rugby Honorable Mention All-American.

Barnaby, a junior economics major from London, England, began playing at the age of 11 for Finchley & Wingate Rugby Club in North London. Transferred to Wasps RFC age 14 and played there until age 17. At Wasps won back-to-back regional championships and was a starter, playing inside center. Then moved to Scottsdale, AZ, and took a 1 year break from rugby to play varsity American football.

He enrolled at Occidental College in 2010 and played American football for the college side. Began playing rugby again that year and started on the team as fly half. Reached the small college national championship, losing in the final to Longwood University of Virginia, in the 2010-11 season ending with a record of 11-1.

He played for Tempe RFC during the summer of 2011, under coach Salty Thompson. Won various regional tournaments and went to national play offs only to lose to Belmont Shore.

Oxy Rugby went 9-1 during the 2011-2012, losing in the regional play offs. Barnaby was selected to participate at USA U20 camp at Treasure Island, San Francisco, and played for team “Kelly”. During the summer of 2012 he played with the Slippery Eel 7’s alongside former USA International Dallen Stanford and many other talented players.

The 2012/13 season ended in disappointment for the Oxy rugby 15s team, losing on the last play of the game in the quarterfinals against the University of Denver. Nonetheless, Occidental was ranked 5th in the nation by NSCRO. Some highlights for Barnaby include: named MVP of NSCRO Pacific Coast Championships against Puget Sound and Cal Maritime, invited to All American camp at Occidental College and narrowly missed out on a place for trip to New Zealand. Planning on attending camp next summer and will continue to refine game for next season.

Oxy Rugby won the inaugural NSCRO 7s Championship in 2013 at PPL Park in Philadelphia. Barnbay was named MVP of the Championship evnet by USA Rugby's All-American 7s coach Tony Pacheco.
