Friday, October 2 DENNIS MOTHERSELL MEMORIAL AWARD OF MERIT In September of 1997 Dennis Mothersell, the Field Director of the Sparta Rocket Football program, passed away suddenly at the age of 40. Prior to the 1998 season the NRFL Executive Board decided to create an award to be presented annually to the member area that best exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship, fair play and commitment to youth displayed by Dennis Mothersell. The award, which is presented to an area/Field Director from each of the league’s divisions, is named in his honor. The award is based totally on each areas performance the previous season with the balloting taking place at the annual Winter Meeting. The announcement is made at the Pre-season Meeting and the awards are presented at the winning areas field early in the season. Past winners of the award and their Field Director at that time are:

Wednesday, January 23 BILL THWAITES MEMORIAL VOLUNTEER COACHING AWARD In early 2002, the Executive Board and Council of the NORTHERN ROCKET FOOTBALL LEAGUE decided to create an award to honor outstanding volunteer coaches from among the ranks of its member areas. It was further decided to name the award for an area coach who was always a strong proponent of youth football, Bill Thwaites. Bill was the varsity coach at Central Montcalm High School and a former member of the NRFL board and the awards for 2002 were announced prior to his death in September of that year. The award is presented to a Coach from a member area who best exemplifies the dedication, work ethic, sportsmanship, integrity and love of the game as displayed by Bill Thwaites during his lifetime. The award may be presented to a coach in each of the NRFL divisions as selected by a panel composed of Field Directors and Officers. Past winners of the award and their home area are:

Thursday, June 19 NRFL 2009 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS April 30, 2009 The NORTHERN ROCKET FOOTBALL LEAGUE, INC. has announced the recipients of their 2009 scholarships. Nicci Hanna, Director of Finance/Scholarships released the names of 21 young men and women who will receive scholarships awarded annually by the league. The winners are from 10 different NRFL member areas and either participated in rocket football, cheerleading or officiating in order to be eligible for scholarship consideration.
