2008 18U Northwest Explosion Softball Tournament Team traveled to Vienna, Ohio, for the annual Pony National Tournament. Fifty-seven teams from across the country, as well as Canada, Czech Republic and Russia competed in the event. The Explosion finished the preliminary round of the tournament as the first seed in their division with a record of 6-1-1 sending them to the Championship round. After some extremely competitive games in the Championship round, they finished 9th in the nation.
Leading up to Nationals, the Explosion competed in seven tournaments including tournaments held in the Lehigh Valley, Maryland and New Jersey. They were the champions of two Pony tournaments, earning them a bid to the National Tournament in Ohio. During their season, they compiled a record of 30-8-1. The team was coached by Rick Wilmott and Bob Andrews. The players are Stephanie Fakula (Soph.) and Justine Levchak (Jr.), both of Allentown Central Catholic; Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall); Keelia Mailander (Sr., Deiruff); Bri Knipe (Jr., Liberty); Shelby Smith (Sr., Northampton); Lexi Jordan (Jr.) and Caitlin McGivern (Jr.), both of Notre Dame Green Pond; Molly Vanbrakle (Jr., Parkland); Jordan Borger (Soph.), Danielle Kitchen (Jr.) and Ashlee Smith (Jr.), all of Pleasant Valley; and Alicia Hughes (Jr., Quakertown).
