Quick Information
NLR Superstars Gymnastics is dedicated to the sport of gymnastics, and encouraging children to develope physical athleticism and self-esteem through the diverse and fun discipline of gymnastics. We offer several different classes from pre-school to competitive teams for both boys and girls, a tumbling class, and recreational programs for all. Our head coach and director, Darrell Leatherman, has been with the program for over thirty years and now teaches the children of former students who have brought their children back to work with the coach they remember from childhood.
Our competitive program has made some strides in the past couple years, and can boast a 2006 state vaulting champion and silver medalist in womens' competitive gymnastics, as well as being home to two male competitors who have won eleven state gold medals in the last two years.
We are also the MOST AFFORDABLE GYMNASTICS PROGRAM in Arkansas!!!

Levels 3-6: Mock Meet October 27th
Hey guys!  We will have our annual mock meet the 27th of this month, at 10:30.  It will be held in conjunction with a "How To" hair clinic at 9:00.  Anyone wanting to learn how to create appropriate competition hair styles that will STAY PUT is welcome. Come bearing hair accessories and hair spray, please.  I think I put up links last year to websites that have pictures of the hair clips and bands that I recommend as being the best for competition.  They should still be there on our useful links page.  Our leotards will probably not be in by that time, so just wear whatever leo you have.  Hope to see everyone there!

Leotard Book Is Here!
Which means that we will be searching for a new competition leo. The current one has met its time limit and will be retired this year. However, we will be keeping the velvet blue windsuits. I have about 3 leotards in mind already, and should have a decision made shortly. The level 3s have the decision of keeping the old leo (which is still available), or getting new ones. It is up to you guys, since we have only had them one year. If anyone is interested in doing fund raisers, get some other parents together and brainstorm. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. We need to have a measuring night, to get leotard sizes for all the girls. Is there anyone wanting to sell a leotard or windsuit that their gymnast has outgrown? Let me know about that, or make a not and post it on the bulletin board in the gym. With any luck, my passport will arrive soon, and I will be off to the British Isles for three weeks. We will make all final leo decisions when I return, unless Ila tells me otherwise for a leo timeline. Any questions, give me a call or talk to me in the gym before June 10th.

STATE MEET AND FUN MEET: Level 4s and 5s finish up their competitive season
Despite... inconsistant (and that's being nice) judging on floor, they girls proved their worth against age groups of 30 to 40 gymnasts from the entire state. There were a few falls and bobbles, but for the most part, the girls were solid, sticking thier routines and having (I hope) a great time.
Highlights include:
Kendal: vault- 9.5 5th place
Sydney: vault-9.45 6th place
Tianna: Beam- 8.85 5th place, Bars- 8.95 5th place, vault- 9.25 5th place
Morgan: vault- 9.65, beam- 8.4 3rd place, floor 9.15
Kayla: vault- 9.65 3rd place, beam- 9.35 3rd place, floor 9.35

(if any of these placements or scores are wrong itis because I'm getting it all out of my head, not off of my score sheet, sorry!)

CJ: floor- 8.95 6th place, bars- 8.55, beam 8.7 (?), vault- 8.6 (?) 14th place
Makalah: floor- 8.85 3rd place, vault- 8.6, Beam- 8.4 (?)

Congratulations girls! And good luck to the level 6s!!!

Level 4s place 3rd in Jacksonville
Sydney, Morgan, and Kayla led the level 4 team to a 3rd place team finish by earning a 9.7, 9.7, and 9.4 consecutively on floor, and pulling in high scores on the other events. All the girls competed well, though they started off shakey on beam. They were beaten for first and second by Searcy Gymstars and River City Gymnastics. Congratulations to all the girls and I am proud of them for the hard work that went into competing as well as they did.

Superstars Win Big at the Mega Gymnastics Meet
A winning team!
*****Check out pictures from this weekend by clicking "albums" on the left, then clicking on "mega gymnastics meet"*****

I knew it would be a good meet when I had all 16 members of the NLR Gymnastics Team out on the floor together. It is the biggest team I've ever coached, and I was proud to be out there with all those beautiful, hard-working girls. The day started well with the level 3s scoring no lower than an 8.05 on floor; the highest score for that level going to Sadie who pulled out a 9.05. The level 4s followed strong with a 9.15 by Morgan and a 9.2 by Kayla. The level 5s rocked floor, Makalah scoring a 9.05, and CJ scoring an 8.75. The 6s also scored high, tumbling better than I have seen them do all year. Akiliah led the scoring for that level with a 7.9, our highest for that level on that event all season long.
Vault, as usual, was one of our strongest events, the highest score of the night going to Megan who scored a 9.575, which led to a first place finish for her on that event. Sadie and Cayman were close behind her however, with a 9.45 and 9.4 consecutively. Erin also pulled out a magnificent vault, scoring a 9.225. Akiliah was close behind, almost breaking that 9 barrier with an 8.9.
Bars was rough, as usual, but the 4s stayed strong, scoring in the upper 8s and culminating in Tiana's season high for that event, a 9.0. CJ also performed well, connecting most of her routine and scoring a high for herself of 8.05. Kendal had the second highest bar score of the night with an 8.85.
Beam was a strange mix of good and bad. Though the girls tended to fall, creating a string of unusual and unexpected dismounts that had me contorting to keep them on, they still maintained high scores, a feat only possibly with strong, steady routines. Both Madison Crestwell and Sadie scored 9s on beam, along with Kayla's high for the event, a 9.25. Out of 16 girls, all but 3 made lower than an 8, AND WITH FALLS, a pretty amazing feat in my mind. Both 6s stuck their back walkovers and Makalah stuck her cartwheel. Erin broke the 8 barrier, scoring an 8.5.
       Level 3s: Top all-arounds of the night included Kayla's 36.425, Morgan's 35.825, Tianna's 34.915, and Sadie's 34.65.
Cross placed in the top 3 on vault and beam. Cayman plaed first on floor, and in the top three on the rest of the events. Madison placed first on beam, and sadie placed in the top 3 on everything, winning floor and the all-around.
Level 4s: Madison placed 2nd on bars, Megan won vault, and Kendal placed in the top 3 on bar and beam. Sydney won floor and placed 2nd in the all-around. Morgan placed in the top 3 on vault, beam, floor, and in the all-around. Tianna placed in the top 3 on everything but floor where she was barely edged out, and received 4th. Kayla placed 2nd on bar, beam, and in the all-around, and won floor.
Level 5s: Makalah won every event. CJ won every event but vault.
Level 6s: Akiliah placed in the top three on vault and beam, and won floor. Erin placed in the top 3 on floor and bars, and won vault, beam, and the all-around.
The level 4s scored a 107.97 in team and PLACED FIRST!!!!! Congratulations girls!!! You all did so well, and worked so hard. A special mention goes to Madison Miller who had her best meet ever Saturday because of her hard work and concentration. I am so proud of all of you.

Levels 4-6 place big at 2006 WinterFest!
team pic
Congrats girls!!!
Despite a few pitfalls on the beam, the girls on the level 4-6 teams performed well this Saturday at our annual home meet. Thanks to all the parents who made the event possible. We could not have done it without you. You guys are GREAT, and we are completly in your debt!
The high all-around of the meet went to Kayla Crowder with a 35.8, and also the high score with a 9.3 on beam. Morgan Barrett-Smith also scored high with a 9.2 on vault. Great job girls. Tianna Roby and Kayla both came away with gold medals in the all-around, followed closely by Kendal Roaf, Sydney Miller, and Morgan with 2nd and 3rd placements in the all-around. Our level fours swept the top positions on the podium in many events! Good job Madison, Megan, Kayla, Kendal, Tianna, Morgan, and Sydney! Congratulations on taking 2nd place in the team competition!
Our level 5s did just as well as CJ and Makalah took turns placing 1st and 2nd on their events and in the all-around. They both had their best bar routines ever, with makalah taking the top score spot on that event with an 8.2! Mallory scored well on vault, and stuck her bar routine, a major goal accomplished! The 5s finished out their good day with a 2nd place finish in the team competition.
The level 6s also accomplished many goals, improving their bar routines and raising their scores 2 points from the starting point at the beginning of the season. They also made major improvements on floor. Akiliah placed 1st on floor and 3rd in the all-around while Erin placed 1st on beam, vault, and in the all-around. Congratulations girls!

Saturday, November 18
Level 5 Team Takes 2nd Place in Sheridan
The team finished their second meet of the season this year, with several of our gymnasts competing for the first time. The started well on floor with all of the fours scoring in the 8s and Kayla finishing up with a 9.025. The fives scored well, with CJ leading with an 8.5. The sixes improved their front handspring passes and wowed everyone with their wonderfully high back tucks at the end of tiring routines. The following events had their ups and downs, and the girls finished the evening on Beam where CJ and Meagan tied for the highest team score of a 8.2. Tianna placed 2nd overall in the level 4, 10 year old age division, Morgan, a first year competitor placed 1st overall, with Kayla and Meagan leading closely behind in the level 4, 11 year old age division. Erin placed 3rd on vault and Akiliah placed 4th on floor. CJ placed 4th on floor with an 8.55. The girls finished a tough meet victoriously when the level 5s (Mallory, CJ, Makalah) placed 2nd place in the team competition, beating out flip flop gymnastics (4th) and Maumelle gymnastics who placed 3rd. The 1st place team was the the home team, Dorsey's. CONGRATULATIONS LEVEL FIVES!!!!

Level 3s Complete First Meet Successfully
The level 3s finished their first meet Friday night with high scores on Floor and Vault, and wonderful attitudes all around! Sadie carried the high scores of the night with a 9.3 on floor and a 9.65 on vault. Cayman also had carried a high score with a 9.6 on vault. Most of the girls scored in the 9s on floor and vault in beautiful performances on both events. I do not have placements, but I heard a rumor that Cross is the recipient of a first place medal, and that many of our girls placed in the top three numerous times! GREAT JOB LEVEL THREES!!!

Girls' Team Finishes First Meet
Congratulations to the girls who finished their first meet of the season last weekend. There were some triumphs and some tragedies, but wonderful attidudes were kept no matter what. I'm proud of all the girls and am excited to begin work again to prepare for next weekend. Congratulations to the level 4 team for placing 4th out of 6 in the team competition!!!

New Gym!!!!
We are finally moving over to the new gym at the North Heights Community Center.
Directions:
-Turn left off of Camp Robinson rd. onto Allen st. at the stop light.
-drive behind Kroger
-go straight through the 4 way stop
-the gym is on the left, after the church
-The gymnastics entrance is the last door on the very left. It is a single door,
painted brown.

A couple new rules for the new gym:
1. All shoes, bags, food, and drink other than water are to be left in the first
entrance room. Bags may be left on the bleachers in the gym, but not on the
floor,in any walking area, or on any equipment (mats are equipment).
2. Only gymnasts and parents are to enter the actual gym.
3. Siblings of gymnasts are NOT allowed on equipment. They can either watch from
the bleachers or play in the entry-way room where we will have colors, games,
   and a tv.
4. For team girls, all breaks in which food is involved will be held in this entry-
way room. Team girls are only allowed in gym area during break if they are
   working on the equipment.
5. Competitive gymnasts ONLY are allowed in the gym for extra practice outside of
their scheduled class time. They must have permission and be on task the entire
time they are in the gym.

I am really excited about our new set up and I think that the new rules will help keep order in the gym and decrease the chance of injuries to children playing on the equipment without instructor supervision. The kids' room will also be a good place for after-school homework, breaktime, and siblings of gymnastics students. If there are any questions in regards to any of the rules or anything else concerning the move and the new facilities, please feel free to ask Darrell and I.

2006-2007 Girls Competition Schedule
We FINALLY have the schedule for the upcoming season and it's packed! We are offering 10 meets for all levels 4-6, besides state meet and fun meet. An out of state meet is also available for those girls scoring high enough in all-around. Let me remind you that you are not required to go to all 10 meets. Only 5 are required, and one MUST be our home meet, which is required of all our competitive gymnasts. I do not suggest that you finish all your meets in the first or the last part of the year. Spread them out. The meets at the beginning of the year are easier and the ones at the end more challenging. If at all possible, I highly recomend attending more than five meets. Remember, more meets = more experience. So, 5 meets are required, but more are recomended. To access the meet schedule through this site, go to schedules, 06-07 girls meets, then click "full schedule" on the bottom right. Please decide ahead of time which meets you will attend and then send a list to me so that I know.

NEW TEAM HOURS
Sorry about once again changing the schedule on everyone. Things at school are already getting crazy and I need study hours. However, I don't want the girls amount of practice time to be cut. There are, after all, only two months left till competition. Because some schools do not get out until 4:00, the 3:30 practice schedule is actually a disaster for the team as a whole. I understand that no one wants to be in the gym late, but it may be the only way to be fair to all the gymnasts. So, starting Monday, September 4th:

Monday: 4:30-7:30
Wednesday: 4:30-7:00
Friday: 3:30-4:30 (routine work for 4s and open gym for all others)

This will be the permanant schedule unless we get a new recreational coach. Then practice will be:
Monday - Thursday 4:00-6:30, Mon & Wed- Whitney, Tue & Thur- Darrell

Thank you so much for your patience; I know this has been frustrating.
